September. I knew it was coming of course. Just finding it hard at the moment.

It has been a wonderful Summer. Just like the last, all here together again and lots of time in the garden chattering away. The weather has been blooming brilliant of course and that helps. But Summer is over. They needed to get back and I guess they chose just to go.

I miss them. That's all.

AmIthatbloodycold · 09/09/2018 16:00

I'm lost. Little ones?

Historynotentertainment · 09/09/2018 16:01

What?

FlibbertyGiblets · 09/09/2018 16:01

House martens.

TillyVonMilly · 09/09/2018 16:03

Birds although I don’t know which ones. The robins and blackbirds will still visit all year plus autumn and winter bring new visitors like the nuthatch

80sMum · 09/09/2018 16:06

We've had nuthatches on our bird feeder this week Tilly! It almost makes up for the nightjars having gone, (but not quite Sad) .

pictish · 09/09/2018 16:09

Who are you talking about OP?

Enko · 09/09/2018 16:10

Op only 1 of my 4 is off so far but in 2 years time there will only be dh myself and our last one.. DD1 doesn't return until Tuesday and I am currently pretending it is not happening. I have enjoyed it.

JaneJeffer · 09/09/2018 16:12

Is this an excerpt from The People's Friend Annual?

Redglitter · 09/09/2018 16:13

Who's gone where? Your OP us as clear as mud

CandleWithHair · 09/09/2018 16:14

What left OP? Your marbles? 🤔

justchangingagain · 09/09/2018 16:14

I'm guessing the birds migrating.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 09/09/2018 16:16

Just how “little” can they be, if they packed up and left without your input?
If you’re still referring to your university aged kids as little ones, you need something else to occupy you Confused

mimibunz · 09/09/2018 16:16

Oh dear this isn’t a creative writing course.

MadisonAvenue · 09/09/2018 16:17

JaneJeffer Yes! That’s exactly what this post reminds me of 😄

RomanyRoots · 09/09/2018 16:18

Well, it's either dc back to school or university, or birds migrating.
Sad for the third would be unusual though.

Saggital · 09/09/2018 16:18

Yes, the swallows.

It has been wonderful this year. It always is once they arrive. Earlier this year though, by a couple of weeks. I sleep with the windows open at the highest point in the house and they swoop up from the barn and garage first thing, always before the sun breaks the horizon. They settle on the guttering above the window which also projects at right angles away to the left. And I see them there, just dark silhouettes in the morning light. I hear them there also just chattering away, but a closer sound too. If I walk to the window and look up I see a whole plastic guttering weighed down by swallows too, just eight inches from my face. I retreat, back to my bed. To listen.

To start in May it is the parents. I think they get there each morning to catch the first rays of the sun. The odd chatter, they have their own individual voices. I have learned them now and each month it sounds a little different, more little babbles join them.

Eventually the chicks come. First wave, before mid-summer. By 4.15 am they are all up on the guttering and the lessons begin. The chattering is different now. Just one bird, like a Callas or a Carreras, starts. The others are silent, whether parents or young birds. Then the singer starts....

Maybe she has very short neighbours that only come to the UK for the summer? And now they left again for warmer climates without even a good bye?
