Chicken pasta bake left out overnight

Cooked a massive chicken, chorizo & pepper pasta bake too do my lunches for a few days. Left it out to cool down straight out the oven before putting in fridge. Fell asleep on sofa, woke up very disoriented at 2am and put myself straight to bed. Came down this morning at 7.30 to see it still out and popped it straight in the fridge. Haven't touched it since - is it ruined? Or is it safe to eat? The kitchen wasn't warm as it was overnight and heating off but don't want to risk getting ill.

I personally would say it's fine, just make sure you really nuke it in the microwave before eating.

Frogletmamma · 04/09/2018 16:01

How warm is your house?

Andtheresaw · 04/09/2018 16:02

Was it covered? If so I'd have no qualms about eating it.
Perhaps a few qualms if it was open to the elements/insects etc.

It would be a no for me....not worth taking the risk.

purplecorkheart · 04/09/2018 16:03

I wouldn't have a problem eating it. I would just reheat it very very well.

Spilledmycoffee · 04/09/2018 16:04

It'll be fine. I've eaten far worse and it's always been fine.

5SecondsFromWilding · 04/09/2018 16:06

I definitely wouldn't eat it. It's not cool enough yet to think your kitchen would be at a safe food storage temperature. Outside of this temperature, bacteria can double in numbers every 20 minutes. And though heating will usually kill the bacteria, it doesn't remove the waste/toxins that the bacteria have been leaving all over the food in that time.

MaryBoBary · 04/09/2018 16:08

With most things I wouldn’t care but when it comes to chicken I’m almost neurotic for some reason so I wouldn’t eat it.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 04/09/2018 16:10

I am quite excessively lax when it comes to food safety, but I probably wouldn’t with chicken.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 04/09/2018 16:10

My sister leaves all food on the stove over night and she hasn’t died yet Grin

I would eat it but make sure I reheated it really well.

frenchfancy · 04/09/2018 16:12

I do this routinely. I never put still warm food in the fridge. It will be be fine.

Thesearmsofmine · 04/09/2018 16:12

I wouldn’t eat it. Without the meat and covered I would but with meat (especially chicken) nope.

PuntCuffin · 04/09/2018 16:13

I would happily eat it.

maddiie · 04/09/2018 16:24

Very mixed opinions - it was wrapped in cling film. Does that make it better? Kicking myself if I have to throw it away, haven't even tried it yet!

SmartestGiant · 04/09/2018 16:24

It's chicken. Definitely not worth taking the chance.

MountainsPlease · 04/09/2018 16:26

Nope from me

Spilledmycoffee · 04/09/2018 17:00

It's been cooked, and then only actually left a few hours more than you would have. It'll be fine.

It being chicken doesn't make a difference, because its cooked.

If it doesn't smell, look, or taste off, it's fine Wink

I actually find the number of people who would throw away perfectly good food very strange Grin

Wolfiefan · 04/09/2018 17:01

You can't smell everything that could make you unwell.
Cooked chicken sitting out at room temperature for hours? No thanks.

TheEmmaDilemma · 04/09/2018 17:06

I would, as long as it was well reheated.

figelnarage · 04/09/2018 17:09

If it was covered it'll be fine as long as you re-heat it thoroughly

MsHomeSlice · 04/09/2018 17:10

I would eat it...I am always doing this with stuff too hot to put away straight away.

I always make sure stuff is covered to keep the flies off and the bloody cats out, I am always portioning up stuff into freezer boxes pre 7am when I get up with the dog....it's a ritual!

MsHomeSlice · 04/09/2018 17:11

rather too many alwayses in there but you get the idea

it happens often, we are alllllllll still here.

bastardkitty · 04/09/2018 17:12

Not okay with chicken.

troodiedoo · 04/09/2018 17:13

I would eat it. frequently do this as it's still warm when I go to bed so I leave it overnight. has to be said I am lax though.

FoofFighter · 04/09/2018 17:14

Yee gads no!

Room temperature in my place right now is 21 going down to just 19 overnight.

Not worth the risk!
