Chicken pasta bake left out overnight

Cooked a massive chicken, chorizo & pepper pasta bake too do my lunches for a few days. Left it out to cool down straight out the oven before putting in fridge. Fell asleep on sofa, woke up very disoriented at 2am and put myself straight to bed. Came down this morning at 7.30 to see it still out and popped it straight in the fridge. Haven't touched it since - is it ruined? Or is it safe to eat? The kitchen wasn't warm as it was overnight and heating off but don't want to risk getting ill.

I would totally eat it. It'll be fine.

Snoopychildminder · 04/09/2018 17:15

Nah I wouldn’t, not chicken, if it was veggies then I would consider it but no I wouldn’t. Give it to the dog/cat if you have one?

BusterTheBulldog · 04/09/2018 17:20

I would eat it without a second thought.

Have done food hygiene course recently and as it was left in the 'danger zone' ie at the wrong temperature for a longer period of time then you shouldn't eat it, but then you're not selling it or giving to other people, so entirely up to you! I personally think it would be fine, I've done it before and not been ill, I just wouldn't do it at work Wink!

DownAtFraggleRock · 04/09/2018 17:28

I'd eat it, but not feed it to others.

troodiedoo · 04/09/2018 17:34

it sounds nice, please can I have the recipe?

theveryhighlife · 04/09/2018 17:41

Meh, I'd eat it.

Bluesheep8 · 04/09/2018 17:43

Yep I would too. And it was covered, I've heated and eaten things that weren't

peppapigkeepsthemquiet · 04/09/2018 17:56

Yeah. I would.
I would just nuke it into the microwave until it was lava like.

maddiie · 04/09/2018 17:59

So is it the chicken itself that is dangerous to eat? Like if I was to reheat it and not eat the chicken chunks but eat the pasta, chorizo and peppers would that be safe? I can't stomach throwing away an untouched pasta bake but also can't stomach the thought of food poisoning. Should I trial it with DH? Grin

maddiie · 04/09/2018 18:01

@troodiedoo Literally just cooked up chicken, chorizo and peppers in a frying pan, mixed with penne and Lidl creamy tomato pasta bake sauce with some cheese on top and popped it into the oven for 30 mins. I can't tell you if it's nice or not because I'm currently too scared to eat it Grin

Pasta is also a common source of food poisoning (learnt on food hygiene course) - the combination of pasta/chicken/leaving out and then reheating would make me nervous!

MagicMix · 04/09/2018 18:13

I'd definitely eat it. I am very lax about that kind of thing and I've never had food poisoning in my life.

Wouldn't be OK for a restaurant but this is just you in your house and you can take a calculated risk. It's a tiny risk. People are always getting food poisoning from bagged salad but people don't seem to be terrified of that.

troodiedoo · 04/09/2018 18:26

thanks @maddiie

eat it! Grin

iloveredwine · 04/09/2018 18:32

I would eat it

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 04/09/2018 18:38

I would eat it, but cold with salad. I wouldn't reheat it.

Silversun83 · 04/09/2018 18:50

Nope! Had two horrific episodes of food poisoning within the space of a year a few years ago so been extra careful neurotic ever since.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 04/09/2018 18:55

I would make sure it's thoroughly re heated and go for it. I regularly forget to put things in the fridge overnight and haven't had food poisoning yet

PickleSarnie · 04/09/2018 19:00

I'd definitely eat it. I've done it before and lived to tell the tale.

Pebblespony · 04/09/2018 19:01

I do this regularly (small, crappy fridge). Never a problem.

PyjamasBetterThanJeans · 04/09/2018 19:05

I probably wouldn't hesitate to but reading this would make me think twice! Wouldn't give to the kids but because the chicken is cooked, I'd have thought ok.

poshme · 04/09/2018 19:19

I would absolutely IF I made sure I heated it up to super hot before eating it.

I often leave stuff out overnight to cool then heat & eat next day.

Never had food poisoning. The danger is if you 'warm' food after this.

PoshPenny · 04/09/2018 19:21

I'd eat it

ILikeyourHairyHands · 04/09/2018 19:29

Another eater here. I often leave batch cooks overnight before dealing with them the next day and eat them hot or cold.

I'll sometimes feed them to DH first if I'm feeling a bit iffy about them...

frenchfancy · 04/09/2018 19:34

Chicken is only a danger if it is uncooked. Cooked chicken is no more dangerous than any other meat. Would you eat a chicken sandwich at a picnic? If yes then there is your answer.
