We drove home from holiday yesterday and passed through Marlborough where we made a lunch stop to break our journey. What a fabulous town! Everything about it felt so upmarket; the shops, smart people, etc. Where have you been that felt so 'posh'?

Topcliffe is a beautiful little village in North Yorkshire. Helmsley, Helperby too.

Twinkie1 · 30/08/2018 18:34

Ipswich, Basildon, Yarmouth terribly un middle class shite holes 😂

UnderHerEye · 30/08/2018 18:36

Brookwood in Surrey, Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire, Ulverston in Cumbria, Geddington in Northamptonshire, and Guildford in Surrey. All very naice for different reasons!

As for the pp who says Guildford is too ex army to be middle class can you explain why ?

Fireworks91 · 30/08/2018 18:37

I meant Yarmouth on the isle of wight, not the other one.

insancerre · 30/08/2018 18:37

Theboxofdelights
Yes, it’s very grim up north
🤣
I work in a nursery and the most popular names are arabella and Henry

YupThatsMe · 30/08/2018 18:39

Wow...Ipswich? Confused I wouldn't really say so. Bury St Edmunds certainly is.

userxx · 30/08/2018 18:43

@theboxofdelights Absolutely ghastly. I'm sure my town was voted best place to live in the uk in 2018......... surely that can't be right, it's in the north schweeeetie 🤣🤣

goose1964 · 30/08/2018 18:48

Worcester

WrongKindOfFace · 30/08/2018 19:06

For some reason I read it as Middlesbrough at first and was mightily confused, although Middlesbrough like Hull has some middle class areas. It’s not all football shirts and drinking beer on a sofa in the fron garden.

I always thought Beccles and Bungay were towns with three surnames between them rather than middle class paradises.

SunshineOutdoors · 30/08/2018 19:14

Came to say Kirkby Lonsdale and was beaten to it.

Beaniebeemer · 30/08/2018 19:34

Gloucester ain’t middle class! Far far from it! Cheltenham used to be much more upmarket but these days I think the majority of it is pretty grim compared to say even 15 years ago. The traffic is horrendous and it’s been really overdeveloped.

BonnieF · 30/08/2018 19:40

Market Harborough
Stamford
Ashbourne
Mansfield
Bakewell
Oakham

Spot the odd one out Wink

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 30/08/2018 19:47

I don't get the comment about Guildford being too ex Army. I lived there for a few years and it didn't give off that vibe and Stoughton Barracks was closed years ago (sold off for housing). It is like many largish towns has it good and bad areas, if your only view of Guildford is driving through it on the A3 it doesn't look particularly smart.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 30/08/2018 19:50

I feel really posh working and shopping in Leeds.

I live in Bradford Grin

theboxofdelights · 30/08/2018 19:53

Red I lived near Holt for a few years. It is actually quite a poor place. Not during holiday season, but the proper locals are not generally well off folk. There isn't a lot of work unless you travel to Norwich.

Much of the town is owned by people who do not live there. If you have an address in Holt you get a substantial discount on the fees in the local private schools so a number of people own houses but don't live there, their kids board.

Nice enough place but holiday makers/home owners aside it is not posh.

SneakyGremlins · 30/08/2018 19:53

Love everyone saying Buxton - it doesn't feel very middle class! probs cause I associate with the Fairfield lot

strangeronabus · 30/08/2018 19:55

Sherborne in Dorset, indeed many of the Dorset market towns and surrounding villages.

feellikeanalien · 30/08/2018 19:58

Midhurst and Petworth in Sussex.

DP and I stayed in the night in Buxton many years ago and although it was quite nice it was completely dead in the evening!

Dilemmacentral · 30/08/2018 20:01

Nowhere in the north is as middle class as nicer areas in the south. Big divide.

Totally agreec

Dilemmacentral · 30/08/2018 20:05

@someoneneededyoubree

where have you seen amazing 5 bedroom houses for sale in Richmond for £500k??!

Pretty sure you were missing the “2.” Or the “3.” Before that £500k

IceBearRocks · 30/08/2018 20:06

@plominoagain I'm from Bury St Edmunds and it's not middle class ...there are some terrible housing estates I'd never live on!!!! Do you live in Newmarket.....if you do ...you'd think BSE was posh 🤣

LapdanceShoeshine · 30/08/2018 20:14

@someoneneededyoubree

cheapest 5-bed detached in actual Richmond is a smidgen under £2.3m Confused
