Middle class towns

We drove home from holiday yesterday and passed through Marlborough where we made a lunch stop to break our journey. What a fabulous town! Everything about it felt so upmarket; the shops, smart people, etc. Where have you been that felt so 'posh'?

I saw someone said BasildonShock, assume they were having a laugh. I lived there as a child, middle class it ain't! Everyone wanted to move to Brentwood, Leigh on Sea or Thorpe Bay.
I don't like Winchester or Cheltenham, they both seem on the way down. The shopping area in Oxford is horrible. When DS was there I stuck to the college areas.
Virtually anywhere on the Peak side of Sheffield is nice
Marlborough, Ashbourne, Bath, Wells all nice.
Never thought of Shaftesbury as MC. Frome thinks it is because the newspapers say it is such a great place to live, I must be missing somethingConfused

Weybridge. Cowbridge.

tobee · 30/08/2018 17:38

Reigate.

OutPinked · 30/08/2018 17:41

Nowhere in the north is as middle class as nicer areas in the south. Big divide.

Clearly never been to many, many places in Yorkshire.

Needsleepneedsleep · 30/08/2018 17:44

Warminster has a 'posh' feel about it and there are some right snobs who shop and work in the Waitrose there.

SandysMam · 30/08/2018 17:46

Lymington in Hampshire
Tenterden in Kent

dundee12 · 30/08/2018 17:48

Wimbledon Village for me

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 30/08/2018 17:51

A lot of cathedral cities mentioned here.

YourVagesty · 30/08/2018 17:52

Shrewsbury, Chester, Leamington Spa, York, St. Andrews...

MrBennOfFestiveRoad · 30/08/2018 17:53

Beccles Grin - maybe on the surface but definitely mixed. It’s also in Suffolk, although feels like it should be in Norfolk.

Southwold, Lewis, Holt.

They don't count apparently. Northerners, know your place.

Youareatourist · 30/08/2018 17:56

The town that I live in has been mentioned a couple of times. It's expensive and very lovely in general but definitely has its rougher side. Still, a comedian who performed here recently mentioned 'Gosh, this town reeks of money doesn't it?' Grin

Underhisi · 30/08/2018 17:57

And Ulverston - that also has a Booths.

DarlingNikita · 30/08/2018 17:57

I'm so ill-travelled in my own country. Haven't been to most of these!

Not a town per se, but the fancy bit of Dulwich in south London. I go there sometimes to see something at the Picture Gallery and it's like a day trip to another world.

Tentomidnight · 30/08/2018 17:57

Buxton is a shit hole, which is a shame as it centres around a lovely park and has some lovely houses. The high street is awful.

BitchQueen90 · 30/08/2018 17:58

Oh and Ruddington in Nottinghamshire.

haverhill · 30/08/2018 18:00

Burford
Winchester
Leamington Spa
Gloucester
Cheltenham
Southwold

LapdanceShoeshine · 30/08/2018 18:08

Booths is for sale - don’t know why - maybe we should have a whip-round

LapdanceShoeshine · 30/08/2018 18:11

Oh - put your purses away - it was for sale but apparently nobody wanted it so they cancelled that.

But it did lose a lot last year.

Booths called off their sale in June, had a bit of a shake up and reappointed Edwin Booth as Chief Exec.

Very grim up north in our middle class towns isn't it folks.
