We drove home from holiday yesterday and passed through Marlborough where we made a lunch stop to break our journey. What a fabulous town! Everything about it felt so upmarket; the shops, smart people, etc. Where have you been that felt so 'posh'?

Ipswich????????? I assume that was a joke?

someoneneededyoubree · 30/08/2018 15:48

Is Richmond in Surrey really all that posh though?

I've seen beautiful houses for sale, 5 bedrooms detached. All going for less than £500K Confused

MargaretDribble · 30/08/2018 16:12

Really? Most of the ones I have seen have six noughts. Maybe there's a rough bit.

MargaretDribble · 30/08/2018 16:15

No, even in 'less desirable areas' £500k only gets one or two bedrooms.
Richmond Yorks is cheaper.

Wilmslow
Chiswick in London

Richmond in Surrey is indeed lovely, if a bit spoilt by traffic, but it is quite spread out and certain areas would be much more desirable than others. Have a look at Richmond Green in the heart of the town and just a stone's throw from the River

If there are 5 bed sub £500k houses in Richmond then I'm moving. It's not far from me and I'd happily drive the dds back here for school.

CottonSock · 30/08/2018 16:35

My relatives live near Richmond. Their 3 bed semi probably worth 800k plus.

CottonSock · 30/08/2018 16:37

I'll add cowbridge to the Wales ones.

In England, any where near Richmond, Kew etc..Chelsea.

Ipswich makes Hull look like York.

DH took me on a romantic weekend to Ipswich once. I still haven't forgiven him.

Chipping Campden.

The wonky pole will have been hit by a Range Rover.

Yes I agree Vanilla!

I think Uppingham is very middle class. Apart from the school, there are only art galleries, antique shops and cafes to look at.

missyB1 · 30/08/2018 17:01

Cheltenham used to be but gone a bit downhill.

Only the bit on the hill with the cathedral and the university in Durham is middle-class. The rest of it is a dreary dead mining town dominated by a huge prison.

Buckingham is fairly middle-class.

RiddleyW · 30/08/2018 17:13

Richmond is a London borough not a town.

Chosenone · 30/08/2018 17:14

My home town has appeared 3 times. O live on the less desirable side so it's easy to forget how nice it is. A friend came the other day and admired the views from my house. I focus on the increasing drug use and homelessness.
I think Sidmouth and Ottery in Devon. Horsham and Hazelemere in Sussex.

megletthesecond · 30/08/2018 17:14

Winchester.
Possibly Exeter too.
