Got up to find what definitely looks like blood in the bath this morning. Same thing happened 2 mornings ago. WTF? No one has a clue where it’s coming from (DH & 3 kids all as flummoxed as I am). Any ideas?

That’s freaked me out! I expected a couple of specks! Loving peoples theories though!

WhippetyStourie · 31/08/2018 12:07

The bath doesn’t get used much but it gets cleaned with the rest of the bathroom every week so the taps are used and the water is clear.
What doesn’t fit with all the rust & stuff coming up theories is why it’s happening only in the middle of the night.
Nah, penguins must be right. My DH has chosen this week to unleash his inner serial killer. 🙀🔪🛀

We had a cat who would do this when unwell.

Are you in a flat? So your plumbing is connected to someone else's? They might be having a shower in the night and the water is coming back up your pipes and hitting the rust in the plughole?

When you kept your cat in and away from the bathroom, did it happen again?

Either replace the plughole and see what happens next, or get a plumber in. I bet they'll have seen something like this before.

JustJoinedRightNow · 31/08/2018 13:24

I’m worried it’s your cat OP. Cats go a bit funny with urine infections and ours wees in the bath over the plug hole if she’s a bit off colour.

If it happens again I would take the cat to the vet, and if possible, grab a sample of the stuff around the plug hole (use an old syringe from medicine to suck it up)

The vet can give you some clear beads to put into the litter tray, which feel to the cat like litter but actually aren’t absorbent so you can take a proper urine sample.

Good luck, I hope your cat is OK!

StormTreader · 31/08/2018 13:24

Put the plug in, or put some kitchen towel over the plughole - if its pee you'll be able to smell it.

Dairymilkmuncher · 31/08/2018 14:15

I'm sure it's your DH. Hope not and the cats ok too

Weird!!

penguinsnpandas · 31/08/2018 14:47

I agree its your DH. Men always give their crimes away by not clearing up after themselves. Wink

Don't be fooled by his constant name changing on MN trying to convince you it was the cat. The cat is innocent.

I haven't much experience of being married to serial killers but I am sure if you ask on the relationships board someone will be able to offer good advice on how to deal with being married to a serial killer. Shock They will almost certainly recommend leaving or a spa day but be careful with the spa day.

squeaver · 31/08/2018 15:11

"Be careful with the spa day" - lololol

MaMisled · 31/08/2018 15:19

Another vote for the cat here. 100%. Please take it to vet. Cystitis can be excruciating for cats and left untreated can cause life threatening infection.

soupforbrains · 31/08/2018 15:29

how creepy. could it maybe be the cat pee reacting with cleaning product residue on the bath?

Nousernameforme · 31/08/2018 15:36

Have you looked up? Is there any brownish patterns on the ceiling it could be a bit of rusty water dripping down in the night from a broken pipe in the loft

Etino · 31/08/2018 15:40

😂😂😂

tiddlyipom · 31/08/2018 15:58

It could be pink mould www.networx.com/article/pink-mold
Or possibly iron stains from your pipes.

golddustwomen · 31/08/2018 16:43

Spooky. After the film I watched last night and now this thread, I can't wait for my oh to get home from work today 😂

I do hope your cat is ok though op

AwdBovril · 31/08/2018 16:56

I don't think it's pink mould. We have had pink mould in the past & struggle to stay on top of it. It's a pinkish orange colour, going brownish in areas if it's not cleaned off thoroughly, definitely not a blood red.

Hammer House of Horror - The house that bled to death

Saggital · 31/08/2018 17:12

I have a possible solution.

I recently observed another poster has learned of a 'spunking ghost' manifesting her home during the night. My hypothesis is that 'OP' has said ghost's partner, to wit 'menstruating ghost'.

Now, If I am right, I predict that shortly there will be no wet patches and no bloody bath for three whole weeks. After which both manifestations will return.

CustardOmlet · 31/08/2018 18:52

Fingers crossed it’s one of the other bizarre theories, however my cat would do this too when he was feeling lazy. The only reason I knew he had a blockage was when he didn’t wee in the bath.

ChristinaMarlowe · 31/08/2018 23:46

@Saggital seems to be on to something.. 🤔😂 😂

WhippetyStourie · 01/09/2018 00:37

No blood this morning. Have kept cat inside for 24 hrs now. She hasn’t had access to the bathroom and the bath is all clear. She has used the litter tray a number of times but no blood there either.
She is still on the suspect list but now number 3 behind serial killer DH and newly suspected menstruating ghost 👻

No we don’t live in a flat, no shared plumbing and no attic.
Not mould either as it was liquid.

@WhippetyStourie if the cat user the litter tray with cat litter you probably wouldn't see macroscopic blood. Simplest thing to do would be to ask your vet for some Katkor urine collection kit (costs a couple of quid). It's sterile, non absorbent cat litter that you put in a clean (washed, rinsed with boiling water, left to air dry) litter tray. Shut the cat in overnight with the tray. Cat can go in and scratch around and in the morning you use the pipette in the pack to suck up a sample of urine. Pop it in to the vets and they'll test it for you. That'll tell you for definite if there's any blood that isn't visible to the eye in there

WhippetyStourie · 01/09/2018 10:08

I used that white silica cat litter so it would show up any blood. Besides, she missed the tray today and peed on the laundry floor next to it. A big puddle of fresh pee and not a sign of blood. Looked nothing like what was in the bath.
