Help solve the mystery of the bloody bath.

Got up to find what definitely looks like blood in the bath this morning. Same thing happened 2 mornings ago. WTF? No one has a clue where it’s coming from (DH & 3 kids all as flummoxed as I am). Any ideas?

If cat pees at other end from the taps it would drain into plug hole creating streak. If not cat/animal then I'm stumped.

WhippetyStourie · 29/08/2018 23:55

One cat.
One guinea pig.
No soap.
The plug hole is a bit rusty but it has been since we moved in (3 years) and this has only happened. And why overnight?

Looks like rust. Could it be dripping from a tap?

Chelonia · 29/08/2018 23:55

@Whippety Stourie do you have a cat? V common for cats with cystitis to pee in the bath (and pee blood) and if it's a female cat it's just horrible and painful for her and needs to be seen by vet within 24hrs but if it's a male cat this can be a LIFETHREATENING incident if their urethra gets blocked. The cat needs to be seen by a vet immediately regardless of time of day or night.
Apologies if you don't own a cat! (Although maybe a neighbours cat is in distress somewhere :/ )

MrsTeach · 29/08/2018 23:56

Should not have read this post at this time of night! Need OP to come back and confirm rust please so that I can sleep! Confused

Definitely rust or hair dye. (I hope!)

Kewqueue · 29/08/2018 23:57

Could it be coming up from a sink elsewhere? I once had blood appear in the shower - it was tomato sauce that went down the sink in the kitchen!

Notasyoungasiwas · 29/08/2018 23:59

Any of the family use bath bombs?

orangeicecream · 29/08/2018 23:59

I'm convinced it's your cat... Hope it's OK.

MountainPeakGeek · 29/08/2018 23:59

It'll most likely be your cat. Vet check ASAP!

hungryhippie · 30/08/2018 00:00

Can the cat get in the bathroom?

WellThisIsShit · 30/08/2018 00:02

Oooh, I hope you read this and checked out your cat. Good luck Flowers

WhippetyStourie · 30/08/2018 00:03

Kids all under 12.
No hair dye.
The tap and plug are at the same end but the tap isn’t dripping, nothing on the ceiling either.
The cat pees outside but she is in overnight. She doesn’t appear to be ill and is only 3 years old.
My DD thinks it’s haunted and now won’t go in there. DH did mention Pennywise so maybe that’s the answer.

Omg those pics are so creepy!Shock

WhippetyStourie · 30/08/2018 00:09

Ok sounds like the cat. She is very much an outside creature so that would explain why it has happened overnight only. Time for a trip to the vet.

Do you have a light above the bath? I have spotlights above mine that are rusting that sometime leak in when it rains

carnivalisover · 30/08/2018 00:12

Couldn’t you tell if it was cat pee from the smell?

userxx · 30/08/2018 00:15

That's a very considerate cat peeing in the bath. Definitely a trip to the vet is needed. Do you have a litter tray in the house?

hmmwhatatodo · 30/08/2018 00:17

I was going to suggest the stuff was coming up the drain into the plug but I guess cat is more likely (or Pennywise).

Member · 30/08/2018 00:24

Has bleach been used in the bath/bleach solution tipped into the bath/bleach cloth been chucked in the bath?

HeadfirstForHalos · 30/08/2018 00:26

Would be a bit rank and probably too much blood, but could someone be spitting in the bath after brushing their teeth? Would probably keep an eye on the cat though as others have said.

DaphneFanshaw · 30/08/2018 00:32

Have you checked the cats paws for any injuries? Ours hurt her paw a while back and I didn't notice until she left blood on the floor, this was after she over cleaned it and it kept on opening up.

DaphneFanshaw · 30/08/2018 00:34

I know you're taking her to the vet anyway, good call. Hope she is OK.

nakedscientist · 30/08/2018 00:35

If the bath is acrylic and the surface is cracked, the substrate underneath can exude water this type of colour.

OctaviaOctober · 30/08/2018 00:35

Oh no, I hope she's ok Sad Remember to take your phone so the vet can see the photos.
