Help solve the mystery of the bloody bath.

Got up to find what definitely looks like blood in the bath this morning. Same thing happened 2 mornings ago. WTF? No one has a clue where it’s coming from (DH & 3 kids all as flummoxed as I am). Any ideas?

Why would it be the cat?

delphguelph · 30/08/2018 00:40

Naked's explanation is better.

MustShowDH · 30/08/2018 00:41

Following as I really want to know if the cat is okay!

Do you have a male or female cat? Can you get hold of a vet tonight?

MouseholeCat · 30/08/2018 00:45

Put a bowl under the tap overnight for a few nights and see if you can catch the liquid. If it's the cat she's unlikely to pee in the bowl. If it's rusty water dripping at least you'll have a more concentrated sample to look at.

I'd also consider laying a white towel or two in the bath to try and isolate the source. If it's away from the tap then you can probably be fairly sure it's the cat.

What are the routines around using that bathroom? Is it used daily for showers/baths? Try and track when it's used against when the drips show up.

QuestionableMouse · 30/08/2018 00:46

If it's cat per, it'll stink. You probably would have noticed the smell.

Do you have a shower over the bath?

BackToTheFuschia7 · 30/08/2018 00:48

Worth getting a pipette and taking some to the appt with you for the Vet to test. The fresher the better but can be placed in fridge if you can’t get to vets straight away.

WhippetyStourie · 30/08/2018 00:50

Yep checked the cat for injuries and no sign of blood on her anywhere. Also no little bloody paw prints out of the bath or on the floor. Strange?
She seems totally fine, eating and running around outside as usual. No obvious pain or discomfort. Thinking to get the old litter tray out and keep her inside for observation. Will make vet appointment anyway.
That’s interesting about the acrylic bath, Naked, but wouldn’t it happen all the time rather than overnight?

This happens if I spray a certain type of bleech in my sink, it turns orange and dries like that.

RedAntsBiteHard · 30/08/2018 00:55

Can you keep the door closed overnight to eliminate the possibility of it being the cat?

81Byerley · 30/08/2018 01:02

Our cat never goes near our bath except when she has a UTI, then we find blood in the bath.

BarbraDear · 30/08/2018 01:07

Any sleep walkers in the house? Still not sure what they would be doing to leave that though.

headinhands · 30/08/2018 01:11

Have you been playing with a Ouija board? 😁

TheSultanofPingu · 30/08/2018 07:25

Do you have a shower over the bath by any chance op?
If so, maybe it's dripping slightly. If there's a bit of rust inside the hose part the water may come out this colour.

serbska · 30/08/2018 07:40

Dripping rust from a shower attachment or tap

AnotherOriginalUsername · 30/08/2018 07:49

Before even opening the post and seeing photos/comments, my money was on the cat. Fits with her being inside overnight too. They're very good at hiding discomfort so not surprising there are no outward signs. Vet will want a urine sample as you've not actually witnessed her doing it, easiest way to do this is keep her in for a couple of hours before her appointment and they will be able to manually express some urine or do a cystocentesis.

emogoo · 30/08/2018 07:52

Hi OP

It will likely be someone has shaved their leg in the shower, cut themselves and its run down to the plug. Said person then steps out but the blood would still remain? Hence it goes all the way down the drain. You bleed quite a lot when you cut your leg so this is the only thing I can think of.

emogoo · 30/08/2018 07:54

Actually I've just looked properly, it does look like rust rather than blood..

peachypetite · 30/08/2018 07:56

Rust?

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 30/08/2018 07:58

Our cat suffers from stress cystitis and when she's having a bout she wees in the bath - it's often bloody.

Did the vet feel her bladder? Do you have a litter tray available when she's in overnight?

Saidthesharktotheflyingfish · 30/08/2018 08:03

I bet it's the cat too. When our cats are shut in before going to the cattery, one of them often uses the bath rather than the litter tray. Cystitis is really quite common in cats so it could easily be the cause of the blood.

One of my cats once sat on my lap and started to pour blood all over me. We had a frantic trip to the vet and it turned out he had a bladder stone Sad

Upsy1981 · 30/08/2018 08:08

My bet is on the cat. One of ours is prone to cystitis and the only thing we notice is little tiny bloody puddles, often in the bath.

JaneJeffer · 30/08/2018 08:14

Rust never sleeps.

Dontknowwhatimdoing · 30/08/2018 08:24

My money is on the cat. Ours had cystitis once and we only realised because we found bloody wee in the bath. She seemed fine otherwise.

brokenharbour · 30/08/2018 08:29

Could it be coming up out of the plug hole and spattering up? Try putting the plug in to see if it stops?
