Got up to find what definitely looks like blood in the bath this morning. Same thing happened 2 mornings ago. WTF? No one has a clue where it’s coming from (DH & 3 kids all as flummoxed as I am). Any ideas?

Teeth do not get disposed of down the drains!

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 30/08/2018 18:27

Close bathroom door over night to stop your cat getting in. Does this happen every night?

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 30/08/2018 18:28

Just reread your OP. Sorry, I realise it isn't every night

firstidrinkthecoffee · 30/08/2018 19:04

That looks a lot like bloody cat pee to me.

DragonMamma · 30/08/2018 19:13

Another one who thinks it’s the cat. My exes cat used to do this when she had a UTI.

BlancheM · 30/08/2018 21:54

It's just iron in the tap. In my old place, I used to sometimes have to leave the taps running for a while before filling the tub because the water used to be red/brown before going clear

NonJeNeRegretteRien · 30/08/2018 22:07

This is the best thread ever!

I hope your cat is okay OP!!

Fucking TEETH though! The stuff of nightmares, holy shit.

PeachyKeenJellymonster · 30/08/2018 23:10

This thread has scared me witless lol

PerverseConverse · 30/08/2018 23:17

Another vote for the cat. My cat used to do this. Would have mucous sometimes too. Hope the cat is ok.

Apileofballyhoo · 30/08/2018 23:24

Cat. And there wouldn't necessarily be enough wee to make a smell. Wet food regularly should help. Have you taken her to the vet?

WhippetyStourie · 31/08/2018 03:57

OK to answer a few questions/ interesting theories :

No bleach used so not that;
Not aware of any sleepwalking;
No one shaves their legs and definitely not in the middle of the night,
I'm the only one having periods and I don't use the bath at all, in fact the bath is very rarely used as we all prefer showers;
No fake tan;
Our shower is separate so no dripping;
The ceiling is clear and the taps aren't rusty although the plughole is;
It has happened overnight well after the kids have gone to bed and discovered both times first thing in the morning. They are suitably freaked out by it and I don't think they could have been responsible for it;
I suppose my DH could be murdering innocents as I sleep penguinsnpandas He should get better at cleaning up the evidence.

There is a dentist just down the road -thanks for that one, JovialNickname I might have nightmares now especially as I just finished watching Sharp Objects.

Oh, and cat update.
So no blood this morning. Cat in overnight but she didn't use the litter tray (or the bath) and the kids forgot she was to stay in and let her out first thing.
So I have dragged her back inside and kept her in all morning, much to her disgust, and she has used the litter tray. One poo, 2 wees, not a skerrick of blood.

It must be something to do with your bath being rarely used and a build up of something from the pipes below not being washed out regularly. How often do the bath taps get turned on? I would put a good drain cleaner down and flush it out.

SleepFreeZone · 31/08/2018 08:10

Have you smelt the liquid OP?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 31/08/2018 08:14

We need CSI Mumsnet on the case...

UrsulaPandress · 31/08/2018 08:15

Teeth 😱😱😱

wafflyversatile · 31/08/2018 08:22

Maybe as something else drains of water it is gurgling up through the bath waste pipe bringing rust with it?
@pigletjohn

penguinsnpandas · 31/08/2018 08:25

If your DH generally bad at clearing up after himself it looks fairly conclusive he's murdering people in the bath 😱 I am so sorry.

0hCrepe · 31/08/2018 08:31

That looks like something has come up from the plug hole then drained slowly back down again, have you checked your water board for local works caulsuing discolouration?
