How much did your 2nd weigh in comparison to 1st?

I'm expecting my second baby and I'm genuinely terrified of giving birth due to the size my first was. My first was 9lb4 and I had 2nd degree tears. Everyone keeps telling me their second weighed more. I find myself feeling sick at the thought of tearing again or it being even worse. Was there a huge difference in size for you?

7lb1 first...7lb12 second- both 3 days over (sorry!)

Atthebottomofthesea · 30/08/2018 07:39

My first was 7lbs 8 at 39+3. My 3rd was 7lbs 4 at 39+6.

My 2nd however was 7lb 1 at 36+4 so would have been bigger full term. However he was really skinny so not sure where his weight was his huge head

Thecomfortador · 30/08/2018 07:44

My 2nd was 5 oz lighter, born at same gestation. Episiotomy for 1st and 2nd degree tear for 2nd.

First baby was 6lb 12oz at 3 weeks early, second baby was 7lb at one week late, third baby was 8lb 2.5oz at 1 week early.

BigGreenOlives · 30/08/2018 07:59

Exactly the same for the first two - 8lbs 4, 8lbs 2.5oz for the third. The two now adult girls are within ½ cm of each other (& me) and we all have the same size feet.

BalloonSlayer · 30/08/2018 08:02

My very old pregnancy book by Gordon Bourne (anyone else have that?) states a woman will have her heaviest baby around the age of 35.

I had DC1 at 35 - 9lb 9oz
Had DC2 at 37 - 6lb 13oz
Had DC3 at 43 - 6lb 13oz

Juanbablo · 30/08/2018 08:02

I didn't have stitches with any of them. Easiest and quickest birth was my second.

cliffdiver · 30/08/2018 08:20

DD1 (40 +4) 7lb 2oz

DD2 (40 +2) 7lb 1oz

bluechameleon · 30/08/2018 08:20

My 2nd was smaller than my first but I suspect I had undiagnosed gestational diabetes with my first.

TheVeryHungryDieter · 30/08/2018 08:23

She was 9 days late and weighed only an ounce more than the first, who was bang on time.

McTootBlowsOnHisBagpipe · 30/08/2018 08:26

1lb heavier, but he was 10 days late and yes he was an easier delivery.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 30/08/2018 08:34

DS1 was 7lbs 10 and ventouse, episiotomy and an awful, awful delivery.
DS2 was 10lbs exactly and swam out without a murmur.

Of the two DS2 was undoubtedly the easiest labour; the MW said that bigger babies just come out easier but truth be told I think every delivery is just different, and it's a bit of pot luck.

Fivechukchuks · 30/08/2018 17:44

Exactly the same weight. Significant cut and stitches with first, graze with second. Definitely easier second time round Smile

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 30/08/2018 17:49

My first was 9lb10oz at 40 weeks exactly, and had to be delivered by EMCS after a 24 hour non-productive labour. By contrast, I had a relatively quick and easy VBAC with my second who arrived at 38+2 weighing 6lb14oz.

Antiquepeek · 30/08/2018 18:15

8lb 11oz at 41+1
9lb 10oz at 40 + 4

PUGaLUGS · 30/08/2018 18:18

Both back to front, both sections.

DS1 9 4
DS2 9 51/2

Lynne1Cat · 30/08/2018 19:10

My sons were
6lb 14, born at 36 weeks
10lb 13, 40 weeks

I'm only 5ft 1

PipeTheFuckDown · 30/08/2018 19:18

#1 7lbs 11oz 39+3
#2 5lbs 37+3
#3 6lbs 13oz 39+3
#4 6lbs 10oz 39+3

PipeTheFuckDown · 30/08/2018 19:20

#1 was cut/tore/failed ventouse/forceps - the physical damage to me was horrific

2/3/4 not even so much as a graze.

itbemay · 30/08/2018 19:22

1st - 9lb 4oz also and 2nd - 8lb 12oz second much much easier! 4 hours start to finish. Good luck op

StandardPoodle · 30/08/2018 20:13

DS1 7lb 12 oz, 12 days overdue, labour 4hours 25 minutes. I tore at the last minute.
DS2 7lb exactly, 4 days early. Slower labour (about 7 hours) but an easier birth and no tear.
Gas and air and a TNS machine for both.

PhilomenaButterfly · 30/08/2018 20:14

7lb 7oz and 7lb 4oz.

jazzandh · 30/08/2018 20:18

1st DS 40+2 9lbs 9oz (induction - back to back...... EMCS)
2nd DS 40+1 10lbs 4oz ( planned CS)

Fairypiggy · 30/08/2018 20:23

DD1 was 7lbs11 at 38 +2
DD2 was 6lbs8 at 39 weeks (unplanned home birth!)

OddestSock · 30/08/2018 20:29

First was 7lb 1.5oz (born at 40 weeks). I had a 22.5 hour labour, ended up with a 2nd degree tear & lots of stitches.
Second was 8lb 4oz (40+5), 9 hour labour, virtually no pushing stage & a small graze.
