How much did your 2nd weigh in comparison to 1st?

I'm expecting my second baby and I'm genuinely terrified of giving birth due to the size my first was. My first was 9lb4 and I had 2nd degree tears. Everyone keeps telling me their second weighed more. I find myself feeling sick at the thought of tearing again or it being even worse. Was there a huge difference in size for you?

They were both exactly the same weight.

I ain’t lying!

1st 9lb 7oz (40+4) Cut, tore & forceps 24hr labour horrendously painful delivery despite epidural. Spent what seemed like hours being sewn after.

2nd 9lb exactly(39+0) - labour a couple of hours and easy delivery having had pethidine for pain. No stiches.

3rd 9lb 4oz (39+0) - labour about 2 hours in total, gas and air for pain. No stiches.

3TresTrois · 29/08/2018 21:50

1st - 10 lbs 6
2nd - 7lbs 2

But first was born at 42 weeks and second at 37...so 2nd probably would’ve been a big baby if I’d have gone to 40+weeks I suppose...

bobstersmum · 29/08/2018 21:53

1st 6lb7 38+3,

2nd 9lb, 40 weeks

3rd 9lb, 10 days overdue.

MadisonAvenue · 29/08/2018 21:54

They were exactly the same weight!

1st - 9lb 14oz @ 39 weeks (7hrs labour)
2nd - 9lb 14oz @ 42 weeks (49 minutes labour)

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 29/08/2018 21:54

Dc1: six pounds nine ounces
Dc2: seven pounds fifteen ounces

Both emergency sections in the early hours of 39+1 because despite the fact that their birth weight varied, their gigantic head size unfortunately remained the same. Although at least dc2 didn't look so disproportionate...with dc1, I was sat in NICU crying because he was such a bobble head, I thought he'd never manage to sit up on his own.

MissTulipan · 29/08/2018 21:55

Both the same weight exactly but first was longer and thinner.

BakedBeans47 · 29/08/2018 21:56

First was a week late and 6 lb 10 Oz. Second was 4 days early and 7 lb 7 Oz. However I tore badly after the first and I was told to expect it to open up again but it didn’t.

Tatapie · 29/08/2018 21:56

DC1 boy 9
DC2 girl 8.5
@ 39+ Midwife correctly predicted weight and also deduced sex of DC2!

ThatchersCold · 29/08/2018 21:57

6lbs 11.5 at 38+2 weeks
7lbs 12 at 39+5 weeks

mummy2pickle · 29/08/2018 21:58

My first was 9lb 10
Second was 10lb 7! It was a quick and 'simple' 40 minute labour with no intervention and no requirement for any stitches. For me the weight and gravity helped get him out!!

whereareyousleep · 29/08/2018 21:59

Ds1 7lb 9oz 41 weeks all the drugs!! forceps and episiotomy 28 hour labour

Ds2 6lb 14oz 39+4 gas and air 2nd degree tear labour 12 hours but only last 2 hours were really painful was only in hospital for 45 minutes before delivery. Tear healed 1000 times better than episiotomy

BG2015 · 29/08/2018 22:16

DS 9lb 12oz - 10 days overdue, induced and emcs

DS 8lb 7oz 4 days early VBAC

DieAntword · 29/08/2018 22:23

First 7lb 12oz at dead on 42 weeks
Second 9lb 8oz at 41+1.

I tried to control my weight gain with the first one but the second one I more or less ate what I wanted.

DieAntword · 29/08/2018 22:24

Oh and even though he was bigger I didn’t tear with the second one. The first one I just pushed as hard as I could because I wanted it over with. Second time I pushed in a much more controlled way and listened to the midwives when he was crowning and it went perfectly.

Hoosey · 29/08/2018 22:29

DS1 39+4 9lbs 3ozs
DS2 39+1 8lbs 3ozs

DramaAlpaca · 29/08/2018 22:32

DS2 was almost a pound & a half heavier than DS1, and DS3 half a pound heavier than DS2.

beargryllshasabigrope · 29/08/2018 22:39

7lb 4 to 8lb 5! Third and final was a respectable 8lb 1.

Maryann1975 · 29/08/2018 22:42

Dc1 and 2 were the same weight, 2nd degree tear that had lots of stitches with dc1, no damage with dc2. Dc3 was a pound heavier and I had a small tear that didn’t need stitching and healed very quickly. The labours were all so different too.

thesockgap · 29/08/2018 22:42

My first two were remarkably similar:
DS1 - 8lb 9oz - induction at 41+4, episiotomy and ventouse delivery
DS2 - 8lb 7oz - induction at 41+6, episiotomy and ventouse delivery!
Slight change in pattern for DS3 though - 9lb 6oz - spontaneous labour at 40+5, no assisted delivery required!

Krouse64 · 29/08/2018 23:19

Both the same
1 ds 7lb 10
2 ds 7lb 10
10 years apart

Fatted · 29/08/2018 23:21

DS1 was 9lbs 1 born a week overdue.

DS2 was lighter. He was 8.5lbs. He was born 2 weeks early though. I reckon if I'd got to 41 weeks with him he would've been a ten pounder.

Both were c-sections.

Olissa8 · 29/08/2018 23:28

Mine got smaller, so it can happen!
DS 8lb 12oz
DD1 7lb 13oz
DD2 7lb 12oz
DD3 7lb 8oz

Verbena87 · 29/08/2018 23:30

This is giving me hope - my first and so far only was 10lb9oz on arrival (back to back, forceps, tears, extended episiotomy) and I’d love another but the ‘second babies are bigger’ thing is slightly daunting (especially as I’ve got size 8 hips and remain slightly astonished he ever fit through them!)
