How much did your 2nd weigh in comparison to 1st?

I'm expecting my second baby and I'm genuinely terrified of giving birth due to the size my first was. My first was 9lb4 and I had 2nd degree tears. Everyone keeps telling me their second weighed more. I find myself feeling sick at the thought of tearing again or it being even worse. Was there a huge difference in size for you?

1oz between the first 2 😁 6lb12 and 6lb 13, both overdue.
Number 3 was 7lb 10. 2nd degree tear with all 3

DS1 9lb 7oz DS2 8lb 11oz

Delatron · 29/08/2018 21:24

Both 7Ib 1oz. Both boys. One a couple of days early, one a couple of days late. Thought it strange they weighed exactly the same!

Flameless · 29/08/2018 21:24

I'm a midwife and mum of 2. Second babies are usually a much easier delivery. My first was 8lb 13oz at 40+4, second was 8lb 5oz at 40+0. No tears with first, graze with second. Second delivery was much quicker.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 29/08/2018 21:24

Oh, and I had no tears or similar with either. I just cook big babies

Helpmemyhairisterrible · 29/08/2018 21:26

My first was an easier delivery because it was very fast after a six hour labour. 7 1/2 lbs. 2nd degree tear. Lots of stitches.

Second was six hours but took longer to get out. 8lbs 2 and just 6 stitches. His was the better labour, as it was very calm.

Delatron · 29/08/2018 21:27

Second was ‘a shorter’ labour at 13 hours versus 40 hours! I got to fully dilated reasonably quickly (for me) with the second but both my babies flipped back to back at the pushing stage and got stuck for hours.

MissCalamity · 29/08/2018 21:33

My 2nd was 1lb lighter, although 9 days earlier than my 1st.
Only a few pushes and she was out, felt like I was pushing for hours with my first.

CormoranStrike · 29/08/2018 21:35

Half a pound less.

HolyMountain · 29/08/2018 21:35

7lb 6lbs ds1
9lbs ds2 ( he was 17 days late and I had to be induced)

n0ne · 29/08/2018 21:37

6lb 6oz and 7lb 8oz

Crunchymum · 29/08/2018 21:37

DC1 7lb 8oz 41+2
DC2 6lb 12oz 40+1
DC3 5lb 12oz 38w

MirandaWest · 29/08/2018 21:38

DS 6lb 1oz at 38+3

DD 7lb 11oz at 40+4

beckslovestimmy · 29/08/2018 21:38

DD 6lb 8oz, DS 7lb 11oz. Both quite easy but DS definitely a bit more painful 😬

JurassicGirl · 29/08/2018 21:40

1st 8lb 3oz - 10 days late
2nd 8lb 5oz - 2 days late
3rd 8lbs 3oz - 1 day early

Each labour was easier than the previous one :)

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 29/08/2018 21:40

1st: 9lb 6oz. Induced, in hospital from induction to birth 30 hours. G&A, Epidural, Forceps, Ventous, prepped for emergency C Section but he came out on my 'final chance' before the went ahead with surgery...

2nd: 8lb 13oz. Waters broke at home, drove to hospital, G&A, born 90 minutes later...

Lookatmemeow · 29/08/2018 21:41

Dd1 7lb 11oz - 16 days late
Dd2 8lb 4oz - 10 days late

Probably more helpful is this study
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4076673/
Conclusions showed second borns are on average 89g heavier.

Floralnomad · 29/08/2018 21:42

1st : 40 +2 vaginal delivery 10lb 4 oz
2nd : 38+4 ELCS 7 lb 13

PurpleNailVarnish · 29/08/2018 21:42

They were all a long time ago now.

DD1 15 days late - 9lbs 8
DS1 exactly on time - 8lbs 6
DD2 7 days late - 10lbs 12
DD3 planned c/s so 2 weeks early - 7lbs 8

Allowing for the general calculations for birth weight even though this is probably nonsense if they'd all been on time they would have been.

1 8lbs 8 approx
2 8lbs 6
3 10lbs 5 approx Confused
4 8lbs 8 approx

Crunchymum · 29/08/2018 21:43

No tears or grazes with any of mine either.

DC1 was 51h and an augmented labour (stopped dilating at 6cm so needed the drip. Natural delivery on the end though. Just diamorphine)
DC2 was 4h and natural with G&A
DC3 was an induction. Propess in, 22h of niggles, then proper contractions, waters went and baby came out all in one push. Was about 20 mins from contractions "proper" to baby. Not even G&A this time!

PurplePotatoes · 29/08/2018 21:44

1st was 8lb 13oz at 40+12 - second degree tear

2nd was 9lb 1.5oz at 40+4 and didn't tear at all.

Both quick deliveries.

FinallyARainbow · 29/08/2018 21:47

DC1 - 3lb 14oz at 35 weeks
DC2 - 6lb 3oz at 36+6

Both labours under 4 hours and just a graze each time. I appreciate neither baby was big but I didn't notice a difference despite the big % increase in DC2.

blinkineckmum · 29/08/2018 21:47

1st baby b2b, 24 hour labour, episiotomy and ventouse.
2nd baby 4.5 hour labour, straightforward delivery.
3rd baby b2b 3rd degree tear nightmare Never Again!
