How much did your 2nd weigh in comparison to 1st?

I'm expecting my second baby and I'm genuinely terrified of giving birth due to the size my first was. My first was 9lb4 and I had 2nd degree tears. Everyone keeps telling me their second weighed more. I find myself feeling sick at the thought of tearing again or it being even worse. Was there a huge difference in size for you?

5oz less. He was 5 days earlier, if that matters.

porolli · 29/08/2018 23:33

I've had three - all exactly the same weight: 6lb 11oz

EachPeachPearRum · 29/08/2018 23:40

7lb 10 for my first
6lb on the nose for my second but she was a week early

1st 9 days late 7lb 14
2nd 4 days early 7lb 13

Kpo58 · 29/08/2018 23:50

DC1 (36 weeks) weighed 4lb 5oz
DC2 (38 weeks) weighed 8lb 11oz (double the first one!)

Witchend · 29/08/2018 23:56

Dd1 was the heaviest at just under 8lb. Born officially 3 days after her due date, (no dating scan) but the midwives reckoned she was a little early by her skin or something.
Dd2 was just over 1lb lighter, born 4 days early.
Ds was between the two but closer to dd2, born a week early.

orangeicecream · 29/08/2018 23:57

1...DS (38 weeks) 7lbs2
2....DD (38 weeks) 6lb 3

jaffacakeany1 · 30/08/2018 00:00

1st was 9lb 5oz 2 weeks late, so did everything heard of to bring on labour because I was also scared of bigger baby no2. Had 2nd 2 days early, 8lb 9oz and much easier and quicker.. good luck!

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 30/08/2018 00:05

1st was a 4 hour labour weighed 8lb 15oz, 2nd was a 45 minute labour and weighed 11lb 3oz- 3rd strolled out twirling a cane and doffing his top hat after a one hour 15 minute labour weighing 8lbs spot on. 2nd was two weeks overdue though!

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 30/08/2018 00:07

Oh- and all natural deliveries with no stitches, but 1st one i had a graze.

NC4Now · 30/08/2018 00:12

There was quite a jump for me: DS1 was 8lb 1oz, DS2 was 9 lb 8oz.
I had a tough time with 2nd degree tear and stitches with DS1. DS2 was so much easier. No tears, no stitches, big but easy.

owl89 · 30/08/2018 00:52

So many reassuring stories thank you Smile I am so glad so many of you found the second birth easier or with less injuries.

second one was 2oz lighter and an easier birth for me too x

noeffingidea · 30/08/2018 01:04

My first was 9 lbs, born at 40+4. I had stitches.
2nd was 7 lbs 6 oz, born 8-10 days early (can't remember exactly), no stitches.

Procrastinate92 · 30/08/2018 01:44

1st DS- 14days late, 8lb 6oz . 2nd DD- 2 days early, 9lb 2oz

Procrastinate92 · 30/08/2018 01:49

owl89 No I would defiantly not say 2nd babies are easier to deliver, unfortunately. You are just more prepared and know what to expect! Although I'm sure there are plenty that would disagree!

Littleray84 · 30/08/2018 01:50

Dd 7lb3 oz 40+1
Ds 7lb3oz 38+6

Both born on a Tuesday at 10.10am and 10.12am identical weights . Weird😂

mathanxiety · 30/08/2018 04:56

My first and second were my smallest and biggest, respectively. The remaining three fell in between, with the average closer to the biggest.

They were all late except DC5 who was induced on her due date as I had GD.

The latest was the second lightest. So there is no rhyme nor reason to any of my stats.

There was a difference of 1lb 13ozs between first and second.

I had an episiotomy and stitches every time. I recovered really well.

My advice is to buy yourself some perinatal irrigation bottles to use after delivery when you use the loo, if your hospital does not supply them.

Also, if your hospital doesn't supply them (you can ask in advance) get some perineal instant ice packs. They really soothe perineal stitch sites, reduce swelling, and speed up healing. Don't get the ice packs that are available for any other area of the body. The perineal ones are single use, and disposable. You can use these while still bleeding and using a sanitary pad.

Woops!
Range was 7lbs 5ozs to 9lbs 4 ozs, so the difference was 1lb 15 ozs.

Confusing pounds/stones and pounds/ounces.

Babybearsporij · 30/08/2018 06:19

DC2 weighed one ounce less than DC1, but they came at an earlier gestation. Had they been full term I reckon they may have been about half a pound - 1 pound heavier.

babycakes1010 · 30/08/2018 06:34

1st exactly 2 weeks late 8lb 2oz
2nd 10days late 9lb 9oz
3rd exactly 2 weeks early 7lb 9oz

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 30/08/2018 06:35

My second was three weeks later (41 as opposed to 38 weeks) and 200g heavier than my first. My third was 41 and a half weeks and 500g lighter than my second. No rhyme or reason.

I had a very very long drawn-out first birth (2 days plus of labour), second was a lot quicker (turning up at the hospital at 9cm and having baby half an hour later quicker) and third was an induction ending in a 20-minute labour (literally 20 min from 2cm to birth).

babycakes1010 · 30/08/2018 06:37

Meant to add...my first was induced...2nd was the easiest and the 3rd was emergency c section

Zoflorabore · 30/08/2018 06:40

Dc1- born 37 weeks 5.15lb ( induced as I had pre eclampsia )

Dc2- born 38 weeks 3 days 6.15lb ( induced as I couldn't walk due to severe long term sciatica)

Saymaname · 30/08/2018 06:47

9lb4 and second 9lb, both week early
