Beans on toast 'recipes'

Dinner last night sparked a funny conversation in our household. Had a really busy day so decided we'd all have beans on toast for dinner but I like to jazz mine up a bit, my favourites are,

Marmite on the toast with loads (half a block) of extra strength cheddar on top.

Caramelised onions with melted brie on top

Spinach, onions and peppers with balsamic glaze on top.

Dp and dc think I'm nuts to faff over it and all just have have them plain with maybe a sprinkling of cheese on top.

Please share what you like on yours as always looking for new ideas or do you just have them plain?

I like using different kinds of beans. In the world foods section of most supermarkets you can find exciting spicy versions.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 22/08/2018 12:16

I like adding curry powder to make spicy beans.

welshweasel · 22/08/2018 12:16

Same as you - marmite on the toast, beans cooked for ages so they are really thick, with a dash of Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco and loads of grated cheese. Delicious!

Add butter to the beans, like you I like marmite on the toast and cheese on the beans sometimes.

Also

Pesto sauce on the toast
Cheese spread or cream cheese on the toast (inc garlic flavoured)
Mushrooms on the toast or sliced tomato
Spices in the beans - as a pp mentioned curry or paprika...

Loads you can do.

Cleanerrates · 22/08/2018 13:36

Love the idea of pesto! Also agree bean have to be piping hot so sauce goes really thick

The clue is in the name.

It's beans. On toast.

Anything else and it's no longer that. I can just about see you can get away with a dash of Worcestershire Sauce in the beans and Marmite on the toast. But cheese on top is called "cheese and beans on toast". Spinach, onions and peppers with balsamic glaze on top is just "stuff on toast".

Gileswithachainsaw · 22/08/2018 13:43

Surely the whole point of beans on toast is that it takes about 2 mins to prepare?
If I was gonna faff about with the rest and make a full on meal out of it id be actually cooking

Just beans here. With cheese sometimes

cushioncovers · 22/08/2018 13:45

My favourite is wholemeal toast, beans and grated (vegan) cheese with white pepper and Henderson's worster sauce I have it at least once a week.

essieestherson · 22/08/2018 13:47

I like to fry up some spicy chorizo then add the beans to the pan, serve on nice bread with a poached egg on top!

Normal beans on toast are just boring now!

ShatnersWig · 22/08/2018 13:48

If I go somewhere that serves jacket spuds with assorted fillings, and I ask for jacket spud with beans, it doesn't come with cheese on the top. I'd have to ask for jacket spud with beans and cheese.

And don't get me started on cheese on top of a bloody cottage pie...

PinkHeart5914 · 22/08/2018 13:51

Beans on toast is meant to be quick isn’t it? Who caramelises onion like why for beans on toast?

Here beans on toast is beans on toast, but the dc do like cheese and beans on toast

ShatnersWig · 22/08/2018 14:06

@PinkHeart5914 You're my kinda person Grin

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 22/08/2018 14:09

Beans on toast with cheese on top is officially called a Cheesey Beano and has been since time began!

PatriciaHolm · 22/08/2018 14:11

Sourdough toast and marmite!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 22/08/2018 14:11

Fry an onion, fry some green pepper and sausages. Add beans and some fresh tomatoes. Simmer. Bloody lovely. I found it in a child's cook book as 'cowboy beans'.

DS hates it (odd child) 🙄

calilark · 22/08/2018 14:12

We do pimped beans- onion & bacon cooked in a frying pan, then beans in there and cooked until thick and not lots of bean juice. Marmite on the toast, then the beans, cheese on top and some black pepper. Lush.

user1483390742 · 22/08/2018 14:13

Marmite, then cheese then beans last so the cheese melts..mmmmmm..

Or

Spoonful of curry powder into the beans whilst heating! Yum!

user1483390742 · 22/08/2018 14:14

Or a cheese, worcester sauce and bean toastie in the George Foreman is lush!

rosettesforjill · 22/08/2018 14:15

Cheese mixed into the beans so it looks revolting but tastes amazing

Or add a handful of raisins - sounds weird but is really nice!

Rebecca36 · 22/08/2018 14:16

NoTeaNoShadeNoPinkLemonade · 22/08/2018 14:17

Twistella · 22/08/2018 14:17

Wholemeal bread, marmite, heinz beans and loads of cheese is actually called 'mummy's beans on toast'

ShatnersWig · 22/08/2018 14:19

AsAProfessionalFekko · 22/08/2018 14:20
