Beans on toast 'recipes'

Cleanerrates · 22/08/2018 12:13

Dinner last night sparked a funny conversation in our household. Had a really busy day so decided we'd all have beans on toast for dinner but I like to jazz mine up a bit, my favourites are,

Marmite on the toast with loads (half a block) of extra strength cheddar on top.

Caramelised onions with melted brie on top

Spinach, onions and peppers with balsamic glaze on top.

Dp and dc think I'm nuts to faff over it and all just have have them plain with maybe a sprinkling of cheese on top.

Please share what you like on yours as always looking for new ideas or do you just have them plain?

A big dollop of guacamole on top 😋

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 22/08/2018 14:24

Why would your ruin perfectly good beans by adding other stuff to them!

Beans on toast is baked beans, on toast. I will add cheese (which is beans on toast with cheese) and I will allow Worcester sauce or any other kind of condiment if you must but no onion/pepper/bacon/chorizo/spinach!?/mushrooms. Nothing that needs additional cooking should be added. Then it is just some weird cooking conglomeration on toast.

I love you @TheDish

Toast one side of the bread
Turn it over and spoon beans on, top with cheese then grill til cheese bubbles.

Cheese Beano's

Put grill on first
heinz beans (no tribute beans) and hopefully it is a really beany
can (you know how some tins are really bean juiceish and some are more beany) these must be heated slowly and gently in small saucepan on the teeny gas burner (medium and large burners are a no no)
Wholemeal toast - in toaster and then left for a short while after popping up to let the toast become crunchy (otherwise it just gets sweaty -with condensation or something -if you stack it right away)
small scraping of butter on slightly cooling toast
grated mature cheddar (must be orange cheddar like my childhood or it isn't right )
toast put on grill pan thing
beans very carefully spooned on to toast (bean dribbleage is a disaster)
then cheese sprinkled over the top (again v. carefully for same reasons)... as liberally as your emotional state dictates
back under grill until cheese is bubbling and golden
Final tip - use fish slice utensil to place carefully on plate. Otherwise ANYTHING could go wrong and ruin the entire process
and there you have...beans on toast with cheesy sprinkles

Try it with a poached egg on top & loads of smoked paprika in the beans.

Gingaaarghpussy · 22/08/2018 15:32

I've never been able to get beyond the beans making the toast taste yak.

I'd rather have a bowl of beans, with buttered bread on the side.

Sandstormbrewing · 22/08/2018 16:07

I love heinz curried beans on fried bread with cheese on top. But I'm severely intolerant to beans!

MrsAHotch · 22/08/2018 16:10

I go for either spreading a home made onion and mint chutney on the untoasted side and topping with cheese before toasting (beans optional), or mixing grated cheese, chopped red onion, chopped tomato, coriander, salt and pepper and toasting. Both take very little extra time and taste great.

Racecardriver · 22/08/2018 16:12

We have one of ma hones that makes pocket toasties. Bread buttered on boat sides with cheese and beans. Food of the (lazy and British) gods!

SpaceDinosaur · 22/08/2018 16:15

Toast
Butter
Grated sharp cheddar
Sweat down some chorizo and then stir in a tin of Heinz beans (no imitations!)
Top onto the toast, butter, cheese.
Sprinkle more cheese on top

HEAVEN!!!

user1483390742 · 22/08/2018 16:18

Heinz beans? Surely you all mean Branston?!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 22/08/2018 16:19

😱

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 22/08/2018 16:52

Grilled cheese on toast then beans and loads of black pepper on top.

Toast with garlic boursoin cheese thickly spread and beans on top.

The classic beans on toast with a poached egg on top and black pepper.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 22/08/2018 16:53

The nicest beans are Tesco own in the blue tin. 39p a can and much better than Heinz!

Takfujimoto · 22/08/2018 17:03

Simple & sweet all the way, beans on thick toast, fried egg on top runny yolk & dash of tabasco.

UpstartCrow · 22/08/2018 17:05

I love them with fried onions and mushrooms in the beans. And smoked bacon bits.

Takfujimoto · 22/08/2018 17:05

User1483390742 Get out, right now and take your Branston Barstard Beans with you.

RockyRoadster · 22/08/2018 17:12

No, I agree. Branston baked beans are the best!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 22/08/2018 17:38

Similar-ish to the Cowboy beans, and with no toast in sight (sorry!) I used to make the following for breakfast as a student:

Cubed potatoes, fried for a few mins with sliced onions
Add bacon cubes or cut up slices of bacon, continue frying
Add chilli powder and beans, warm through
Add and egg or two and scramble

Sounds bizarre, looked strange, tasted wonderful!

Spottyyellowdress · 22/08/2018 17:40

@welshweasel Curry powder in beans is ace but to really make it special, mix the curry powder WITH THE BUTTER, toast one side, the spread the spicy butter and toast again... it’s like spicy fried bread!!! Then spicy beans on top (I like my food hot!)

Crunchymum · 22/08/2018 17:57

Blimey if I went to all that trouble for beans on toast I'd just cook a quick and easy dinner.

I don't massively like beans (other than on a jacket spud or with chips) and I don't massively like toast either but if someone made me beans on toast for dinner I would need cheese and lots if it too.

Cleanerrates · 22/08/2018 21:22

Spottyyellowdress - that sounds amazing! That's next on my list

Cheese Beano's*

I was beginning to think I was the only one who made it like this and called it cheese beano 😂

Timeisslippingaway · 22/08/2018 21:45

TimeIhadaNameChange

That does sound good but what type of beans? Are we talking heinze baked beans?
