What pointless 'talent' do you have?

Just talking with a friend about pointless 'talents' and wondered what yours are Smile

She was working out when she could next have paracetamol and I just said it immediately, when I was a teen I spent a lot of time having inhalers for my asthma every 4 hours, so it turns out I can still work out 4 hours immediately without thinking about it

She chipped in that she can fold her tongue in to a w shape

Touch my nose with my big toe (only the right foot, I can't bend the left leg anywhere near!)

Fairly good at guess the song intros.

Put on a full face of make up in a moving car, passenger obviously.

Ta-da!!! Grin

myidentitymycrisis · 22/08/2018 17:26

Make and Blow bubbles off my tongue with my saliva (gross)

Buxtonstill · 22/08/2018 17:51

I can take a match out of a box with my toes, and light it! When I used to smoke I used to hold a cigarette between two toes while doing this, then light the ciggy. May I add that I could never get my foot up to my mouth to smoke it! Also, if I wake in the middle of the night, i can normally guess the time within 2-3 minutes.

gandtformeplease · 22/08/2018 21:30

Handstands. Really still and straight and for ages. Had completely forgotten I could do them til DD recently took up gymnastics and realised she is fab at them too. Everyone was shocked when I showed off my skill. DH was astounded ... ‘we’ve been together 20 years...how did I not know you could do that’ 😂😂

gandtformeplease · 22/08/2018 21:31

Whoops. Mean HEADstands, not handstands!

SallyOMalley · 22/08/2018 21:36

I can work out the relationship between distant family members in my head. Not like whether they get on it not, but more of the third cousins twice removed kind of thing. Very handy when great aunt Aggie asks again how granddad Jack and cousin Bertha are related.

mombie · 22/08/2018 21:36

I am also really good at twerking. I had no idea, tried it once with my sisters and my arse took on a life of its own

ResistanceIsNecessary · 22/08/2018 21:38

I have a ridiculously detailed knowledge of 90s pop music and used to be a demon at pub quizzes back in the day. Couldn't tell you anything about current music though Grin

Isadora2007 · 22/08/2018 21:39

I can read really fast (in my head- not out loud)
I can hold a beer bottle in me cleavage AND drink it without touching it (bagged myself many a free drink with this party trick in my student days)
I can open a beer bottle with my teeth 😬 wouldn’t do it now as I value my teeth too much and I’m not a knob any more.
I used to be able to down a pint quicker than most blokes.
Sensing a theme here... 🍺

CigarsofthePharoahs · 22/08/2018 21:43

I can also touch the tip of my nose with my tongue.
I can fold over my 2nd toe. Just that toe, all on its own. It freaks DH out so I keep doing it.
I can beat anyone in a game of Worms 2. DH hasn't played me in years as I always win. Come to think of it, I haven't played in a long time now so am probably quite rusty.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 22/08/2018 21:54

Technically not so pointless, but still odd - I don't need an alarm clock, if I look at a clock before I go to bed and picture the hands on the time I want to be up, and say mentally "7 o'clock" or whatever then I always wake up then, usually about 2 minutes before the time I said. My days are varied so it's not routine, and it works when I've been run down and had a sleep in the afternoon too

@myidentitymycrisis ha ha me too! No idea how I learned it but my kids thinks it's ace

Wobblebeans · 22/08/2018 21:57

I can name all 50 US States

InProgress · 22/08/2018 21:58

I can wiggle my nostrils.

I'm also ambidextrous and can write/draw at the same time. Funnily enough I also struggle to tell my left from my right and am rather rubbish at estimating time. Oh well, the rabbit nostrils are a good party trick,

RibbonAurora · 22/08/2018 22:00

I can do the Can Can (for real), recite the periodic table (including the recently renamed ununs) and I can walk across the room with a glass of water on my head!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 22/08/2018 22:00

I can also write, paint and do some DIY tasks with both hands. (I also can’t distinguish left and right.)

I can name most 70s and 80s tunes from a few bars of intro and got banned from a pub quiz for being too good at this.

I can play Paint It Black on the recorder. 🎶

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 22/08/2018 22:02

Oh, and I’m ridiculously flexible and can scratch my nose with my toe.

gandalf456 · 22/08/2018 22:02

I can imitate accents and remember phone numbers

InProgress · 22/08/2018 22:04

Oh I've got another one. I can pick out small differences when scrolling quickly through large amounts of data. There's a kind of flick where the difference is. Geek power 🤓

Geekster1963 · 22/08/2018 22:05

I can wiggle my ears

CarrieBlu · 22/08/2018 22:05

@Malibucyprus I’m like that with number plates too! I enjoy telling family members their number plates from when I was a kid (20+ years ago). I have no idea why I’m able to memorise them so easily though, I’m rubbish at remembering anything else!

PirateMermaid · 22/08/2018 22:12

@PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle snap I can also sleep anywhere at anytime. I do a lot of travel and it’s handy being on a plane or bus and just saying oh I’ll have a nap and falling asleep. Even in busy places in the middle of the day.

I can also time when I wake up. I’ll always wake 10 mins before any alarm. I can literally say I’m having 60 winks and wake an hour later.

donajimena · 22/08/2018 22:12

gandalf I can remember every landline phone number I ever used! Its very handy when I need computer passwords. I can still remember my nanas. I'm not sure how common this is but it makes me proud Grin
I can play any tune on the recorder by ear. I hadn't picked one up in twenty years but after a little warm up I could reliably bang out Eastenders theme.

Notquiteagandt · 23/08/2018 04:11

I have really strong toes. Can pick things up and do things with them. Like open a bottle or write with a pencil.

Im like a monkey....

Graphista · 23/08/2018 04:45

Anyone remember the show "you bet"?

I used to daydream about going on - my talent? At that time I could identify any top ten hit either from the first 3 notes (of the original recording) or by the graphic equalizer display of the first bar.

I know the nato alphabet back to front and sideways.

I'm another with a weird talent for remembering numerical data (even though my maths is shit) I can still remember client account numbers & phone numbers, car reg numbers and home phone numbers from almost 30 years ago - just don't expect me to remember wtf I went in the kitchen for! 😂

Puddleglum - Re sleeping anywhere, are you a military brat by any chance? I am and my siblings and friends that are have the same 'talent' - for me STAYING asleep, impossible!

That's reminded me of my weirdest one - I'm REALLY good at placing accents. British I can usually place within 5 miles, non British depends on the accent I'm more familiar with some than others. A dr that was doing a minor op on me, just met him that morning, chatting away (to ease nerves) and I was able to tell him where he was originally from, where he'd studied and where he'd last lived. He was originally from an African country, had studied in a USA city, then before the post I met him in had been working in an English city - I met him in a scots one. Right from the first one (his birthplace) he was like 'how on earth? Nobody gets that even other people from that country! Because it's been so long since I lived there and the other accents have muted it' have no idea how I could apply this to somethings practical though.

I'm a speed reader - though that's actually useful, certainly was at uni. Ex was stunned when on our first holiday I was easily getting through a novel every other day and we weren't just sitting about we were going on excursions etc I was reading for an hour or so before going to sleep is all. He tried catching me out by quizzing me about a book that was new to me but he'd read before. He was like 😱 how the hell can you read so fast and take it in? - it was more a case of other people seem slow readers to me as I've been reading novels since I was 6 so never really knew any different.
