Could I ask some condom advice please

New to the dating game. Not been in need of a condom for a very long time. Have a impending date, possibly open to fwb type thing for now.

I will be taking condoms, he has already mentioned that he suffers with lack of sensation when using them, but he also had not used any recently. (he is also recently out of a ltr in which they did not use any). he is not against them, just says he preferred not to in the past relationship.

I will go for a better brand and not the cheapy kind. But any suggestion please for which ones would be best? Obviously don't want him having no or limited sensation. The aisle is a bit daunting if you haven't bought any for 25 years.

Please share any suggestions.

If you've found this page in search of condoms that have been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best condoms useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

Some, i never thought of non latex, got to be better for those of us who haven't used one in a number of years (and cant remember if latex was ever an issue).

And why are some condoms so expensive? I had a look and am not sure in some cases how they justify the price. (that is another surprise, seeing how pricey these things have become over the years)

Does it really matter Fatcow?

Durex invisible are great.

We’ve tried skyn after hearing rave reviews, didn’t like them.

I mirror PP’s though, definitely would feel wary about a guy already slating contraception before you’ve even met.

soupforbrains · 22/08/2018 09:09

@OutPinked it's NOT before they've met. Why does nobody read properly anymore. They're long term friends have met hundreds of times and know each other well. They chatted about condoms at some poitn in the past before this new move to becoming more than friends was even a thing.

No advice but intrigued as to how he only has access to 'standard issue' ones. Is he in prison?

highlighta · 22/08/2018 09:30

Out thank you, was that the non latex Skyns?

Appreciate the concern everyone.

Please see Soup's post.

He is not slating anything.

He will have his own supply.
They wont be the better ones.

I have more access to go to a pharmacy than he.
I would like him to have just as an good experience as me.
And talking about condoms with someone you have know for more than half of your life, is ok.

Nelly, no he is not in prison. Grin

The nature of his work means that he is in a very remote place. He will be airlifted to where I will be meeting him, directly from said remote place. He does not have access to any shops, although at remote place of work, the standard condoms are issued out for the staff leaving the area for their leave, weeks off etc.

I have offered to purchase the better condoms. He is very grateful. Wink

Not a dripfeed but I didn't think it important when asking the initial question. Should have know better as you lot are bloody nosy. Grin

I'd be more concerned that he has had a lot of unprotected sex. Condoms do not protect against all STI's even when used properly.

Would he be willing to do an STI check first? I know it's not very romantic but I refused to sleep with my husband until he had had this done!

Racecardriver · 22/08/2018 09:55

Well now you have to tell us what he does. Does he work on a oil rig? A scientist working with a discovery of alien spacecraft in the Arctic? A spy?

Racecardriver · 22/08/2018 09:56

Also I don't like condoms so I can't really say but most skanky guys I've known use skyns so must be better. Logic there may be a bit flawed.

Racecar He is James Bond.

Grin

I better buy extra packs shouldn't I. Wink
