Waitrose dark coconut chocolate is incredible. My favourite dark chocolate

laramara · 25/08/2018 14:14

Have to say I was underwhelmed by the Love cocoa bars;sadly just not very chocolatey and a weird texture.
Currently my favourite chocolate has to be, Willies bars available at Waitrose, milk sea salt particularly delicious!

PigletJohn · 25/08/2018 14:28

The bloom is usual after hot weather. Cocoa butter melts at about 32C, and "sweats" onto the surface. When it cools and solidifies it no longer has the polished finish that the chocolate had when it left the factory.

It does not affect the eating quality (I once thought it was white mould, but it isn't)

Chocolate made for hot countries (and army rations) is made to a different recipe to avoid this. It is rather hard and dark.

StellaRockafella · 25/08/2018 14:46

Actually I disagree re. eating quality. I've eaten bars without any bloom earlier this week and there is a marked difference is both taste and texture.

stabilo88 · 25/08/2018 15:08

Bloom certainly does affect the eating texture; it is well known to make the texture crumbly.

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 25/08/2018 15:18

My favourite chocolate ever the CreamEgg is now disgusting fuck knows how they got it to taste like that.
But good for my waistline I suppose.

3luckystars · 25/08/2018 16:51

@ignatiusjreilly

No I haven’t tasted British Buttons, but there is NO WAY they could taste worse than the Irish Buttons. (Unless they are selling compressed pellets so of shit in a purple bag)

I would say they have changed all the chocolate now, maybe the Irish still tastes different to the English but it has DEFINITELY changed and is awful.

CorneliusCrackers · 25/08/2018 18:37

Are there any petitions/ boycotts going for Cadbury’s to change back to original recipe/stop using palm oil?

There’s some politics I can throw myself into Grin

Calories have definitely gone up over the years despite getting smaller and now I know why: palm oil and more sugar to detract from it.

iloveeggandcressbutties · 25/08/2018 20:51

I received the Love Cocoa chocolate yesterday but I have to say I'm not impressed. It was flavourless imo and I won't buy it again. Aldi moser Roth was better.

Mumshotel · 25/08/2018 21:42

Omg just bring back proper fucking Spira. Our children will never know. Weep

Pippylou · 25/08/2018 21:54

Tried the LC honey one. It was quite sweet but I'm more used to pretty dark Lidl/Aldi chocolate these days. Not much crunch but defo honey aftertaste. Would be much better as a chunky bar with bigger crunchy pieces.

Didn't quite have the mouth feel I like, was out of the fridge & I think perhaps I should have left it at room temp. Good with tea tho & I ate the whole bar, despite trying to put it down...

Thanks for the offer tho, James. You should hire us as a focus group! Smile

PerverseConverse · 25/08/2018 22:57

The Irish dairy milk Turkish delight is disgusting. I can't eat it.

00100001 · 26/08/2018 10:44

Spira !!!!

My goodness that brings back memories, they were AMAZING.

Why oh why can't Cadbury's chocolate be like that again??

PasstheStarmix · 26/08/2018 20:40

Weren’t they in a red and purple striped wrapper? Oh and what happened to Cadbury’s nobbles which were on a blue wrapper and were a delicious toffee cereal chocolate treat that used to cost 20p and Cadbury’s nuts about caramels in the red shiny wrapper? Why they had to ‘uniform’ their brand and ruin it I don’t know!

PasstheStarmix · 26/08/2018 20:40

in*

Pippylou · 26/08/2018 20:43

Today's chocolate was the dark salted Love Cocoa bar.

Much nicer, obviously my lifestyle change a few years ago has really worked and I seem to like darker chocolate now. It had a bloom on it but I really liked it, much better texture and taste.

LightastheBreeze · 26/08/2018 20:52

I usually only buy Ritter, Milka and Lindt as my old favourites are so horrible now but I am now going to try some of the other chocolate suggestions on this thread Smile

PerverseConverse · 26/08/2018 22:57

My children like the Love Cocoa milk and salted caramel bars Smile They were very excited to have a posh treat!

Mumshotel · 26/08/2018 23:14

Is Milka still safe, I always enjoyed that. I'm fume at the Cadburys situation. It's bloody wrong.

Yes Spiras were the joy of joy. In a red and purple packet. Remember old Wispas too?

There used to be little vending machines at tube stations that had more exotic cadburys too one was some thing about Jamaica and tasted boozy and amazing

PerverseConverse · 26/08/2018 23:25

Old Jamaican. It was rum and raisin in a semi-dark chocolate. My dad loved it. Someone on the other chocolate thread said you might still be able to get it....

PerverseConverse · 26/08/2018 23:28

To ask you what is your favourite chocolate bar?http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/3342967-to-ask-you-what-is-your-favourite-chocolate-bar

I'm loving the chocolate threads as they are friendly and happy places (except for the anti-Cadbury and palm oil stance Grin). There are so many sad relationship threads and crazy AIBU threads so chocolate threads are a welcome distraction from life's traumas.

PerverseConverse · 26/08/2018 23:30

£7.50 delivered on amazon! It's a different wrapper. Think the old one had a pirate ship in it.
