Thanks for the shipping discount, I've ordered!

DunkandEggAgain · 22/08/2018 17:40

She kept shtum about the veg oils, didn't she..!

cobblett36 · 22/08/2018 17:41

For ages now I've wandered what's been going on with chocolate. Only used to have Cadbury, I remember Cadbury from when I was a kid, it a bad a sheen to it and snapped. Now it's melted before it's even out of the wrapper, putting it in the fridge helps. But I do agree with those saying it costs your teeth and mouth. I get itchy gums (no gingivitis though) only when I eat chocolate.

Will switch over to the aldi premium one, we've taken to getting them at Xmas time and it's gorgeous.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/08/2018 17:47

We haven't dreamt up the palm oil in Cadbury's? Grin

I looked up the ingredients and it does say palm oil and Shea, which Amanda didn't mention.

But maybe they are magic flavourings.

PerverseConverse · 22/08/2018 17:50

Hmmm how can we help the press get hold of the Cadbury cover up?

BackinTimeforTea · 22/08/2018 18:03

Doesn’t it come down to the fact they don’t use the glass and a half logo chocolate on a lot of ‘cadbury’ products now? Also things may have the same ingredients but that doesn’t mean the proportions stay the same or other fillers are t added - it’s all about what those statements don’t say.

WindyWednesday · 22/08/2018 18:39

Wasn’t it a glass and a half of fresh milk, now it’s a logo? More like a glass and a half of palm oil now.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 22/08/2018 18:53

The order the ingredients are listed has palm and Shea fat well behind milk, sugar, cocoa fat and solids, so it means smaller quantity of palm and Shea.

Gardai · 22/08/2018 19:02

Ooh I got my love Cocoa order today and have had a bit of the honeycomb one - lovely like ‘real’ chocolate- I would prefer something a tiny bit more milky (spoilt now).
Thanks James for the mini bar offer, I’ve taken up on it and all the best for the future, we need good chocolate !

LemonRedwood · 22/08/2018 19:12

Love the email reply from James. Thanks for sharing Perverse.

Not surprised at Cadbury's lies by omission.

Currently on a train home from Gatwick and I have been anticipating my Love Cocoa parcel since I got the email to say it was despatched on Monday!

Hope the cat sitter hasn't scoffed it

Gardai · 22/08/2018 19:19

Am going to try the Montezuma milk chocolate buttons, I’m on a roll.
Can anyone tell me the best (cheapest) place to get them online ? Am in Norn Iron so we don’t have John Lewis or Waitrose.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/08/2018 19:26

How lovely! I've ordered the sample bars too. If I like them then I'm buying myself a present afterwards.

I hope they get into waitrose soon.

ResistanceIsNecessary · 22/08/2018 19:47

Watching with interest. Good news about being stocked in JL - I'll keep an eye out for it.

Haven't eaten Cadbury's for years. Mondelez are a bunch of lying cunts.

HashTagLil · 22/08/2018 20:32

I like that Love Cocoa are asking their FB members for feedback and ideas on proposed products. Something that M&S could learn from?

00100001 · 22/08/2018 20:53

A bit disappointed with the Love Chocolate bar :(

My DH has just returned from Dublin with some Cadbury's buttons (not giant, sadly) and dairy milk for me.

Luckily I also have half a bag of British buttons in the cupboard that my children rejected last week (yes, that's right, even children don't like them anymore). So in the interests of science, I can compare them!

Appearance:
The new-recipe buttons are slightly larger and flatter, are a lighter colour and have a slightly rougher look where they've rubbed together in the bag. The old-style Irish ones are shinier and neater looking (if that makes sense).

Smell:
The Irish bag has that unmistakable Dairy Milk smell! The British bag smells of chocolate but it could be any chocolate.

Taste:
The British bag tastes like cheap advent calendar chocolate. And I'm very excited to say that the Irish one definitely tastes how I remember Dairy Milk tasting! It's creamy and more-ish and has that unique Dairy Milk flavour that we've all missed. But I'm not sure if it's exactly the same... there's a slightly odd aftertaste that I don't remember, but it's possible my tastes have changed.

Conclusion:
Irish Cadbury's is infinitely preferable to British!

PerverseConverse · 22/08/2018 21:14

@ignatiusjreilly oooh I've got high hopes for my Irish delivery now after reading your post!

@00100001 do you think it's because we all hoped it would taste like the original dairy milk? If so, take heart from James' email in my comment below as it sounds like he is working towards getting as close as possible to the original recipe.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 22/08/2018 22:11

I'm so glad I've found this thread, I used to love Cadbury's but haven't had it for years now Envy I'm going to try the LC one and hope it comes closer to the original than the rank, greasy 'Cadbury' choc of late.

TheSassyAssassin · 22/08/2018 22:23

Thanks for passing on the email @PerverseConverse! I have also ordered the sample (& a couple more bars). And thank you James if you're reading this!

Can't believe that reply from Cadbury...as bland and non-committal as their mockolate! Hmm

So LC verdict thus far - lovely snap and aroma and whilst I liked the milk choc and honeycomb one and much prefer it to any recent milk choc I have had (& my DD loved it!!), I am more of a dark choc girl and OMG the dark choc and seasalt did not disappoint! Lovely taste and texture and a really lovely lingering aftertaste of deliciously dark goodness. It's a thumbs up from me! Ordered more flavours now so we'll see what they are like Smile This thread has been a very good education!

SingaSong12 · 22/08/2018 22:32

Haven't RTFT so may be repeating that Iceland don't use palm oil in their own brand products. I haven't tried the chocolate - it seems cheaper than the other palm oil free ones - is there a catch?

holidaylady · 22/08/2018 22:34

Yes the glass and a half logo is very important to Cadbury. Though for years I don't think it was explained on the packaging what it meant. It means a glass and a half ie x fluid ounces of liquid fresh milk in X oz of chocolate (can't remember the specifics).

So if the logo isn't there then it isn't 'CDM' chocolate.

And fyi buttons used to be the only line made with 100% fresh chocolate in it. Ie no rework. So it was the purest Cadburys chocolate.

The Irish chocolate uses Irish milk- and as we all know Ireland as the emerald isle- it rains alot. And the cows milk tastes different. That is why the chocolate used to taste different to UK Cadburys. However the Irish Cadburys seems to have stayed the same when the British has changed.

Some amazing Irish managers I reckon. Telling mondelez where to stick it!

ignatiusjreilly · 22/08/2018 22:42

Thanks holidaylady that's really interesting! So the aftertaste is probably just the different milk used. It wasn't unpleasant, just different, and didn't stop me polishing off the whole bag Blush

I can't tell you how exciting it was to taste proper Cadbury's again, after thinking it had gone forever. I hope DH has many more business trips to Dublin lined up!

PerverseConverse · 22/08/2018 22:54

@SingaSong12 you need to read the full thread to get all the info on the best chocolate, read the taste tests, and get discount codes for Love Cocoa Smile

Here is my reply to Mondalez:

"Thank you for your reply which clearly demonstrates how you are deceiving the public. In your list of “magic ingredients” you fail to mention the use of palm and shea fats/oils. The current recipe used for dairy milk is far removed from the original and now not even Fairtrade. It’s no wonder the reputation of Cadbury’s has been dragged down by a greedy company that prioritises profits over quality. Mr Cadbury must be turning in his grave with what you have done to a respected British product that’s been loved for generations. Shame on you Mondekez for your deception, your lack of ethics, your poor quality and complete lack of respect for both the consumer and the Cadbury name that are earning you your dirty dollars."

I just hope that the more people complain and say what they think that they might make positive changes.
