How many times do we have to tell you? Yes we still all hate summer!

(But tentatively looking forward to autumn.)

I felt a bit less sweaty than last time. Hot and muggy here today. Supposed to be 17 and rainy here tomorrow, though! Hurrah!

Wanders in, shouts "Fuck off and Go Away".

I shivvered yesterday for the first time in ages. I almost put a shirt on but I enjoyed being a bit nippy for a while..

Wanders Out

moonandmountains · 17/08/2018 12:12

Yay a new thread! Nice and cool here today, last night was deliciously nippy. Pottering about in my garden without being dive bombed by wasps and flies and not melting in the hellish sun. Great day Grin

Oh I feel like you're all my soul sisters (& brothers, maybe?)!

I HATE THE SUMMER AND THE HEAT

please don't tell me to fuck off Grin

I've been so so relieved with the rain and drop in temperature, even my little boy is so much happier

thinkofablinkingnamewoman · 17/08/2018 12:20

V happy to have found this thread. Am so pleased to be in black jeans, black top and black cardi - away with all those summer colours and cottonsSmile

Fatbelliedgirl · 17/08/2018 12:23

The Weather Outlook and Metcheck long range forecasts both showing cool temperatures after mid week, the 'feels like' temperature is 8c next weekend in my area! punches air in joy

LighthouseSouth · 17/08/2018 12:29

New build dwellers

Still 24 with the windows open, is that the kind of temp you have?"

I'm wondering if it's worth getting MN to amend the title of this in some way - e.g. put "anything over 20c" after the word "summer"?

Becca I hope you're having a better day.

ohdeardeardear · 17/08/2018 12:34

I'm in a new build, temps has been reaching the dizzy heights of 30 degrees. It's 22.8 currently.

LighthouseSouth · 17/08/2018 12:38

ooh 22.8 sounds good.

our thermostat only does .5

we were past 32 - we think 35 but the thermostat display switches off because it can't cope - so the air con brought that down to 27 which was good considering it's portable and not properly vented (because we can't, because stupid new build windows).

Those from previous threads will know the fridge & freezer packed up. We only restocked a little bit but I think they're okay now.

Becca19962014 · 17/08/2018 12:38

My flat has hit 35c this summer. Bloody awful.

I've discovered cold patches for migraines and I've bought a lot in case it comes back. I've had three people tell me it's going to be hitting 30 again really soon Sad I've a lot of shit going on at the moment and suspect people are trying to cheer me up by saying it, not knowing it's actually having the opposite effect!

Becca19962014 · 17/08/2018 12:40

lighthouse I'm glad your fridge and freezer are ok. I'd been meaning to ask about that but forgot who it was who had problems so sorry about that.

LighthouseSouth · 17/08/2018 12:41

Becca, yes I don't have migraines either but bought those for the heat

in the endless useless articles about coping with heat, I never once saw those mentioned.

have you looked at the long range forecast in your area? I really hope there's no 25s coming, never mind bloody 30!

Becca19962014 · 17/08/2018 12:47

Useless long term forecast a lot of "maybe" and "possible" mentions of sun and improvements.

I don't want bloody improvements 19-20 is bearable for me. Not ideal but bearable.

ohdeardeardear · 17/08/2018 12:48

That should've have dead 'had been reaching' not 'has'!

I looked into an AC unit but like you say - the windows are garbage so we couldn't ventilate it and DH stresses the plaster will fall off or something stupid Confused

ToothTrauma · 17/08/2018 12:48

Thanks for the tip on cold patches Becca! I do actually get migraines so they’ll be doubly useful Grin But I’m really sorry you’re having such a tough time at the moment Flowers

Glad your freezer is bearing up Lighthouse. What a total nightmare that was. We are v v v lucky with our downstairs because we can throw open all the windows and doors and we don’t seem to get much direct sun (trees around garden) but it’s upstairs that is like an oven. I remember after the hot spell in June last year it took ages before it wasn’t hot upstairs. Opening the windows seems to have no effect Confused

MeetOnTheLedge · 17/08/2018 13:08

Hello, I was on the first thread, but drifted off, the TAAT today has reminded me to re-join. It's SO nice now the weather is a bit cooler and life can carry on as normal. the grass is green again, my allotment is no longer a dust bowl. Really hoping that's it for heatwaves.

LighthouseSouth · 17/08/2018 13:18

I take it the TAAT got deleted?

Becca, I never read wordy forecasts, it's too annoying. I just look at the temps on XCWeather mostly, but that's only 10 days I know.

yes, it's a relief to have the fridge & freezer working.

I am holding on to what my elderly neighbour said about it just being once every 42 years! It has been truly awful.

I'm just about to go on the hunt for 2 pairs of jeans....how the fuck did I lose 2 pairs of jeans in such a small home? But I've not been able to wear them since the middle of May, so they'll be hidden away somewhere....probably with scarves or something.

Becca19962014 · 17/08/2018 13:27

These are the ones I've got www.boots.com/search/kool+'n'+soothe obviously you can get them elsewhere. V. Good for migraines. I'd seen them recommended on YouTube so bought a pack to try. I'm impressed, they don't last the whole 8 hours not even close (that could be to do with my health though) but they do get very cold fast!

Shiteatusernames · 17/08/2018 13:28

Hi have skimmed the previous threads and now joining in.
It's about 21/22 here today and that is how I like it, was fed up of having no energy to do anything!
Plus I work in a kitchen and it was bloody awful when temps outside were late 20's/30.
Going to catch up on this thread now.

Yesterdayizdone1 · 17/08/2018 13:30

Yes the thread got deleted

Sorry, just dashing in to post this link to a feature in The Guardian which I found interesting - and alarming.

LighthouseSouth · 17/08/2018 18:50

@MotherofPearl

Thanks, I found that really interesting. A couple of the links it goes to are interesting too, particularly the urbanisation. The concrete frying pan effect is a major issue.

Of course there's a lot of stuff I'd like to see cities doing on a macro level but I can't help saying the o word as well (overpopulation).

The thing about 42c on the bus, I've never checked on the Tube but I'm pretty sure the Northern and Central get to those temps.

On a lighter note, there was an article about people could start having sex again but I'm not sure I can find it and googling "sex and heatwave" doesn't strike me as a good plan Grin

There's a thread on AMA about living in the Hebrides and it sounds really lovely there.

I found my missing jeans, I'd stuffed them under winter coats.

FurryDice · 17/08/2018 19:04

New build dwellers: Still 24 with the windows open, is that the kind of temp you have?"

Yes, I’m still getting 24s and over if the sun has been shining. I’m currently sitting waiting for my Ocado delivery and have the living room window open so I can see when they arrive. The evening sun has decided to shine and that comes directly in the direction of my windows so I am of course now baking and wishing Ocado would bloody hurry up so I can close the curtains!

OP posts:
LighthouseSouth · 17/08/2018 19:13

yup, Furry, that was in the morning so 26 now because sun is shining on windows (curtains closed, windows open).

some of you will remember that with our stupid windows, we had issues opening them fully and had to tape an old DC toy to the frame to stop it banging closed.

DP has now put the toy to soak in very hot water as it was covered in dust from the road Grin

I think he's being a bit optimistic washing it now....I'd have waited till end of Sep at least!

Becca19962014 · 17/08/2018 19:15

MNHQ are allowing chat threads to remain after 90 days so though this one will disappear I'm going to stop putting info I have been on here, though you've all been lovely here for the most part I need to protect myself from getting shitty PMs from people about my difficulties with temperatures, especially as threads will from Monday be around forever.
