(But tentatively looking forward to autumn.)

I felt a bit less sweaty than last time. Hot and muggy here today. Supposed to be 17 and rainy here tomorrow, though! Hurrah!

16 -18°C = mild
18-20°C = warm
20-22°C = hot
22-25 °C = really hot
25-30 °C = unbearably hot
30-35 °C = scorchio

How's this for horrible - I moved from the Southern hemisphere to the Northern hemisphere a few years ago. Just before we left, we had a day which was 46°. It's like breathing the air from the oven.
At least it's not that hot, though this does not stop me hating and grumping about even low thirties.

MotherofPearl · 15/08/2018 21:13

Hello from far-too-warm-but-not-as-bad-as-I-expected Northern Spain, heat-hating pals!

I was not able to keep up with the last thread properly owing to rubbish forrin wi-fi, but have just read the last bit of the old thread and thankfully seen the link to the new one. Annoying about those silly posters coming on to cast accusations of moaning. Idiots. Angry

Sorry to read that many of you are still suffering awful temps. It's been hot here, but also quite breezy and of course it's much easier to cope with heat on holiday than at home with normal life.

DP put the fear into me today by saying that while the UK is cooler at the moment than it was, that a horrible 2 week heatwave is expected from the end of August. Can anyone confirm or deny this rumour?

Looking forward to catching up properly on the thread when I get home next week.

FurryDice · 15/08/2018 21:56

Hello, Mother! God, I hope your dp is wrong. Weather apps showing no signs of heatwave temps as yet, but still wall to wall 23/24s with the odd 25. This is still too hot for me, though. I want below 20s, please.

@hugoagogo I agree with that scale. I don’t need to wear a coat until well down into single digits.

I do suddenly feel that the evenings are shorter, but that’s no help to those of you stuck in greenhouse flats. I never understand people who say midday is the hottest. It demonstrably isn’t.

BagelGoesWalking · 16/08/2018 01:19

"I think we forget that 22 is still over 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Back in the old days (when I was a kid) we considered that hot!"

That's so true, Furry.

Quite high temps forecast here. I don't think Autumn really gets going until October now.

SapphireSeptember · 16/08/2018 01:53

Four more years of heatwaves? What fresh hell is this? Shock I'm moving to Iceland!

NancyDonahue · 16/08/2018 07:28

Checking in. I'm glad to see the rain is back after a few sweaty days in the south. Hopefully the flies and wasps will bugger off for the day.

I got myself a new coat and boots this week. So excited to be able to wear them Smile. I love it when the cosy jumpers hit the shops. I can't wait to ditch my flip flops, which I usually love. This year they just seem to be associated with feeling fed up. They are also very manky from being worn from dawn to dusk for 3 months.

Any one else planning any Autumn purchases?

KateGrey · 16/08/2018 09:24

It’s raining here! Heavy rain ☔️ I’m so happy!

Fatted · 16/08/2018 09:29

I'm so glad there's other people feeling like me!! I usually enjoy the summer, but God this one has felt never ending. I really can't wait for winter now! My kids were talking about looking forward to Halloween yesterday.

Becca19962014 · 16/08/2018 09:45

I'm so very grateful for this thread and the support I've found here - you've all been very kind when others have not and I include some people included in my medical care in that.

The fairies are still out by a couple of degrees here, yesterday didn't get above 20 though it was meant to be a max of 17 (I wish!).

Flat is now getting down to 21, still on the warm side for me to sleep in but it is dropping.

I've anxiety anyway, I won't bore you with the details of that, but feel dread everytime I see sun now - yes it's sunny at the moment Sad supposed to be 17 - at the moment, it's not its 20.

PickleNeedsAFriendInReading · 16/08/2018 09:49

I wouldn't hate it quite so much at mid-20s, even up to high 20-s, if I could cool my flat off!! It's anywhere between 25 and 32, depending on the day/time. 25 when I woke up this morning. And there doesn't seem to be much I can do about it, other than fans.

The news of four more years of heatwaves is very depressing!

BagelGoesWalking · 16/08/2018 09:56

Glad to see the rain today. Nothing would dent my mood actually as DD got the great results she needed and a place at her 1st choice uni 😬

Nancy I am planning a purchase. New boots. Nearly clicked many times last year and they're available again so I will buy this time!

Becca19962014 · 16/08/2018 10:22

pickles yes same here, I'm sure it seems mine is cool now, but warmer than outside, is horrible!

KateGrey · 16/08/2018 10:27

@BagelGoesWalking congratulations to your dd.

One thing I always find hard is transitioning between clothes. Love the weather but I’ll need to get used to wearing something else.

NancyDonahue · 16/08/2018 10:29

Wow bagel great news!

BagelGoesWalking · 16/08/2018 10:52

Thank you! She worked really hard and was so pessimistic but, after all the stress and waiting, it's all good 😬 The relief is immense.

SapphireSeptember · 16/08/2018 13:30

Yay, I'm really pleased for your daughter, Bagel!

This packing lark is so much fun (not) and I've got so much washing to do! And less than three weeks till moving day! My washing got rained on this morning too . And I've realised I have far too many books and make up (I have loose stuff in little plastic bags sorted by brand, that I filled my suitcase with yesterday! It's only a small suitcase that I use for my weekend trips but still! And that's not counting the make up I have in boxes!) And I've got stuff I need to take to the charity shop.

HelenaDove · 16/08/2018 14:35

Muggy and horrible in my flat despite the rain.

and the weed smokers underneath us are getting even worse The smell coming from theirs last Friday night was so strong. Pretty strong on Tuesday night and last night too. Both DH and i are starting to feel it in our throats.

Sick of it.

BagelGoesWalking · 16/08/2018 15:36

Thanks again! I am wearing jeans, Tshirt and light grey v-neck thin jumper (Hollister eBay bargain) so I am content. Proper clothes again.

Storm4star · 16/08/2018 16:33

It’s still so darn humid here. Went shopping today in a t shirt and jeans, and some people were wearing full on winter coats! I mean ok it was raining but it’s not cold! Had to go into the office for a while and they actually had the heating on in the reception area! What is wrong with people??

hugoagogo · 16/08/2018 16:57

Weird isn't it? I am known for feeling the cold too, but no way do I need a coat at 18 degrees? Confused

SapphireSeptember · 16/08/2018 21:10

Why are people wearing coats, what is wrong with them? It's still far too hot!

LighthouseSouth · 16/08/2018 21:17

to be fair, people wearing coats might be going out later

if it's 18 in the day and going to 10 - I should be so lucky - in some areas, then if you're off to the pub after work you prob will need coat en route home.

and some lucky sods have air con on their trains!

I feel the cold, - believe it or not! - so if it's going below 15, I have an unlined jacket.

also I need pockets, which often don't exist in work trousers. one of the other small annoyances of this weather has been en route to work; travelcard, phone, keys etc all go in handbag instead of jacket pockets.

actually if I'd been at work today I'd have needed a raincoat....

Thoughts on autumn 2018 here
Warmer and drier than average apparently yeaahaa!
I don't like heatwave temps but am loving these days of between 20-25c and getting out and about with my kid

Yogafailure · 17/08/2018 07:29

Summer is over here hooray. Darker evenings, some mist and mellow fruitfulness appearing, schools are back. I 😍 this time of year...start of term, Birthday, 2 dcs birthdays, Halloween, Guy Fawkes, Christmas 🎉
