How many times do we have to tell you? Yes we still all hate summer!

(But tentatively looking forward to autumn.)

I felt a bit less sweaty than last time. Hot and muggy here today. Supposed to be 17 and rainy here tomorrow, though! Hurrah!

Thanks @Mother; good to see you.

Fucking hell my bedroom is still 21 - it’s because I can’t open the windows properly while it’s still raining. And this is why I need very little heating in winter, the bedroom just retains a lot of heat. Even on very cold days the radiator only needs to be on for about an hour in there. Good for winter, terrible for summer.

I’m not really complaining, though, as I’m very happy that the overall temp has dropped.

I am complaining about the first week in September, though. Wall to wall fucking 23s and 24s.

When will this nightmare end?!

FurryDice · 25/08/2018 00:37

Thanks @Sapphire. I’m sure it will eventually. Current living roomtemp is also 21 but that’s ok for this room.

It sounds so frustrating! This house is horribly drafty, (especially in the winter) but the bonus is it cools down quickly.

Looking at ideas for my new home, look what I found! www.amazon.co.uk/Generic-Severus-decorative-pillowcase-zippered/dp/B01MECDSQC?tag=mumsnetforum-21 I was thinking how a Lost In Austin story would work, but this would be Lost In Rowling (I loved that TV series, it was funny!)

FurryDice · 25/08/2018 03:11

You could wake up every morning snogging the Snape

Lost in Austin was great

FurryDice · 25/08/2018 03:12

Lost in Austen, ffs. I do t think it was set in Texas!

I’m only posting this to give a real time example, and honestly, it’s not moaning for moanings sake because the outside temps are so much better. But my Dyson air purifying fan that cost 450 bucks two years ago and is now a write off because it emits a high pitched noise you cannot sleep through - I’m telling you this for two reasons.

  1. To tell you not to shell out on this cunting thing and
  2. It’s not boasting; I bought it thinking it would last years and it hasn’t and I’m really angry that within the two year warranty period it’s become a huge nuisance.

Before anyone asks here’s the deal. Bought a brand new one from Dyson May 2016. Within weeks it started making the high pitched whine and they replaced it becAuse it was within the 6 month period. The replacement also whined. Got a second new one sent October 2016. Seemed much better until this year. Called Dyson who said I needed to send it back for testing and repair if necessary. This was in the throes of the heatwave so I explained the hot flat/needing of fan conundrum.

So I now need to send it back before October to get it ‘repaired’ before it’s out of warranty. So part of my dreading of more heat means I keep having to stall sending this thing back,

My god, that was very long and dull and I’m not even sure why I started to explain it in the first place.

Oh yes! Because I was trying to explain how I always know the temp in the bedroom compared to outside cos the Dyson measures it.

Wonderful piece of machinery that is currently playing chicken with my tinnitus as to which can make me go insane first

Distinctly autumnal this morning. I’ve got my fluffy dressing gown on.

FurryDice · 25/08/2018 07:37

And oh yeah, the whole point of that post was to say it’s supposedly 9 degrees outside and yet 20 in my bedroom. Which is obviously so much better but illustrates how ridiculously hot it is in here compared to outside. A full 11 degrees higher!

Longwinded ramble about Dyson fan kills thread. Oops.

Hope you’re all enjoying a lovely cool day

We have two dyson fans (my husband is an idiot) and I don't think they're worth the money at all. You're basically paying for a gimmick and marginally less noise.

Loving these cooler temps. I actually had goosebumps earlier!

LighthouseSouth · 25/08/2018 16:59

Furry

I think the decent customer service solution would be to send you another new one frankly. That's terrible, such an expensive item and so much hassle within warranty!

I'm afraid I don't feel the temp change much. Flat is 23, dad's in hospital again which is boiling. The Tube is still pretty hot. So even when I'm outside, I notice people wearing raincoats but I don't really get a chance to cool down.

Sorry, maybe September will be the end of my grumbles!

FurryDice · 25/08/2018 17:14

Well to be fair to them they did swap the first two whining ones immediately because they were within the first 6 months of purchase. I think it’s because this one is so near to the end of the warranty they’ll only offer a repair. Given it has permanent residence in my bedroom I need a window of at least a week of good weather before I can send it back.

I’m so sorry to hear your dad’s in hospital @Lighthouse. I really hope his condition improves soon.

OP posts:
FurryDice · 25/08/2018 17:15

And by good weather I obviously mean colder weather!

OP posts:
LighthouseSouth · 25/08/2018 17:38

Actually would a refund be better? You could buy more fans or an air con unit? Put the money towards the window film?

Depends how good you find the fan I guess...

Thanks re dad.

LighthouseSouth · 25/08/2018 17:39

Sun is out...reckon it will hit 25 soon. Tomorrow should be better i think.

FurryDice · 25/08/2018 17:52

When it works without whining it’s worth it because it’s also an air purifier. I’ve been very happy with it apart from the noise it sometimes makes.

Yes sun is out here too which is the worst time of day for it to be out.

OP posts:
FurryDice · 25/08/2018 17:54

Do they not have air con in the hospital, Lighthouse?

OP posts:
LighthouseSouth · 25/08/2018 19:33

I've never been in a hospital with air con!

FurryDice · 25/08/2018 21:35

It’s been so long since I’ve been in one (touch wood) I really haven’t any idea either way

Fluffy Grin I misspelled it first! I thought Austin sounded right in my head, but it wasn't. Oh yes! Well, I dreamt I married Snape, so does that make him my imaginary husband? Although I spend most of my time reading the books/watching the films wanting to cuddle him and tell him everything is going to be okay and that I'll deal with his nasty dad/those nasty Marauders/that nasty snake! I get way too overinvested in storylines.

Lighthouse I wish your dad a speedy recovery. Flowers

It's rained loads today, but only in short bursts. And I'm cold again. I see tartan in the shops again, that makes me happy! Grin

FurryDice · 25/08/2018 21:40

It feels decidedly autumnal outside but it’s still 22 in my bedroom ffs. Still sitting in the living room in a vest top. I’m ok with that, though. And the nights do feel like they’re starting to draw in at last.

@Sapphire yes I felt very sorry for poor old Snivellus once we learned his backstory

OP posts:
SapphireSeptember · 26/08/2018 02:17

I went outside (briefly) and could see my breath! Fucking hell. And of course now it's actually chilly at night my in laws won't turn the heating on. I'm kinda wondering why it's so cold here actually, I'm fairly southern. It's warm when the sun comes out. I'm actually reminded of the last week of June, and start of July, it was roasting in the day but got cold at night, but not this chilly. Just means I can snuggle up with my duvet.

I felt sorry for Sevvy after reading Order Of The Pheonix. It's probably a good thing I couldn't have jumped into the book, I'd have AK'd that lot, which would have changed most of the story! Grin

SapphireSeptember · 26/08/2018 02:18

Fucking dog, shut up! It's too late/early for your shit! Why am I still awake anyway? I need to be up in the morning!

FurryDice · 26/08/2018 03:24

Hope you’re asleep by now, Sapphire.

I remember the first time I read all the Harry Potters and couldn’t wait for the new ones to come out. I miss that. JK should do a full prequel series or something like that. I loved reading about that world.
