How much?

Ok just had lunch in a little village cafe/ coffee shop. How much would you expect to pay for a jacket potato with coleslaw and salad garnish and a grilled chicken salad, 1 Diet Coke, 1 bottle of water? It was fine, perfectly nice but not amazing. The bill came to £37 which I felt was a bit steep but I didn’t dont eat out at lunch time that often, so is this pretty standard or expensive?

£37?!? Surely that's a mistake?

Aprilshowersinaugust · 15/08/2018 15:01

Did you pay for the whole café to eat?

WhatAmISupposedToBeDoing · 15/08/2018 15:01

Jeepers. I live in a naice market town just inside the commuter belt and I wouldn't expect to pay more than £20 max for that. But then there is competition in a town, maybe it's a super duper organic artisan cafe with no other options for 10 miles?

Faster · 15/08/2018 15:01

Holy fuck that’s eye wateringly expensive. That’s be £20 max near me.

LaurieFairyCake · 15/08/2018 15:03

I’d pay about £17 for that in Central London so I think it’s a mistake

Even if it was all organic chicken etc I can’t inagine it being over £20

IKnowItsTIMHONKSTIMHONKS · 15/08/2018 15:03

Max £18

BevBrook · 15/08/2018 15:03

That is incredibly expensive. What were the individual prices? Are you sure they didn't make a mistake adding it up? The very highest I would expect to pay for all that lot is £22 and that is assuming a really amazingly good and huge chicken salad in a very nice cafe, home-made coleslaw and a big mark-up on the Coke.

Singlenotsingle · 15/08/2018 15:03

Jacket potato £6. Grilled chicken salad a bit more, say £10? Drinks £2.50 each. That's £20.50 + VAT. Say £25?

PinkHeart5914 · 15/08/2018 15:03

The village cafe here is

£4.50 jacket potatoe with any filling you like & small salad
Chicken salad £5.50
Cans of drink are 60p, bottles of fizzy drink £1.40 and water £1

I go a lot can you tell! I don’t think I’d pay more than that in a cafe, in a proper restaurant of course I would but not in a cafe

ScreamingValenta · 15/08/2018 15:06

J P £7 max
Salad £8 max
Drinks £2 each max

icelollycraving · 15/08/2018 15:06

I would have thought £17 Esther than £37.

FevertreeLight · 15/08/2018 15:08

Jacket potato £10, chicken salad £14, coke up to £3.50 and water about £3

AtleastitsnotMonday · 15/08/2018 15:16

Sorry I have made a slight mistake! It was 2 diet cokes and 1 water but even still it seems steep.
Jacket 10.95
Salad 15.95
Diet Coke 3.60 *2
Water 2.90

Icklepup · 15/08/2018 15:20

I'd say £17-£20

FoodGloriousFud · 15/08/2018 15:20

£16 for a salad?!?

ScreamingValenta · 15/08/2018 15:23

£3.60 is ridiculous for a Diet Coke. The other prices are on the steep side but that one stands out.

theunsure · 15/08/2018 15:25

That is exortionate!

Even in our naice area, you'd probably be pushed to spend £20-25 on that.

Vote with your feet and don't return!

Faster · 15/08/2018 15:27

I’d have sat down, read the menu, then got up and walked out with those prices!

PotteringAlong · 15/08/2018 15:28

£3.60 for a Diet Coke?!

3luckystars · 15/08/2018 15:28

That's a mistake. Go back. £10.95 for a potato?

ShirleyPhallus · 15/08/2018 15:29

Didn’t you see the prices on the menu before you paid?!

3luckystars · 15/08/2018 15:29

They didn't even peel the potato either. £10.95!! That's wrong.

Mammyloveswine · 15/08/2018 15:30

A tenner for a jacket potato??? Shock

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 15/08/2018 15:30

I live in an area where places tend to have you over a barrel, nothing for miles lots of tourists and even I think that is steep. £16!! For a salad!

BarefootHippieChick · 15/08/2018 15:30

Surely you knew the prices before you ordered though? Usually they're listed on a board or a menu.
