I think his appeal is definitely the 'Bond' esque English gentleman thing, it must seem so exotic to your average American.

My DDs are 14 and, 18 and like TayTay, not massive fans but DD1 did buy her last album, and DD2 would put her videos on.
She was definitely cooler to teens when she was with Calvin I would say, DD2 loves him.

Taytay used to be quite active on social media, replying to fans who were being bullied and inviting fans to meet her. That seems to have stopped.

my 14 year old can tay-ke her or leave her tbh. She likes 21 Pilots, the Neighbourhood and Marina and the diamonds. She'd watch Taytay if she deigned to tour here and didn't cost €€€€€€€€€ but otherwise likes the occasional song rather than buying albums. That said, that's not unusual for an i-tunes/Spotify/youtube upbringing. Although she was looking at (gasp) vinyl last week!

Katy Perry also has the touring/fanbase contact down to a fine art. (my DD did used to love her a few years back so I ended up watching the documentary. I know.) She has also beaten Taytay to the punch regarding twitter followers (90 million to 78).
