What to call my dd's 'bits'?

Posted here mainly for traffic... need answers!
We are at the stage where my dd needs (?) to have a word for her 'front bottom' (btw, I hate that term) and dh and I are not coming up with anything we like or agree on.
What do you all use? We also have a ds where we happily use willy. Just can't seem to find a similar term for girls that we want to use.
Help!

I think using Willy and Fanny, while also teaching them the correct terms.

tumbletumble · 04/07/2015 15:43

We say zizi, purely because the first time DD asked we had a French friend visiting. Apparently it's the generic word for girls' and boys' bits in French.

GatoradeMeBitch · 04/07/2015 15:51

I thought 'twinkle' was bad enough, thanks mum, but 'bummy'? 'moo-moo'? If a child told me something about her moo-moo, I'd be looking around for a toy cow! And any name that tells girls that their vagina is just a continuation of their bum makes me cringe.

As someone pointed out above, if you're not going with the actual names, it's a good idea to use a name that will be recognized by people who would need to know about a problem. 'Someone touched my bummy' is not going to sound as serious as 'someone touched my winky'.

MyNameIsSuz · 04/07/2015 16:12

Nothing wrong with fanny, that's what we all called it!

MIL, when dh and his sister were little, used 'tweenie' - because it's in between your legs. Obviously before the tv show existed...

spancake · 04/07/2015 16:19

I don't see a problem with using kids words for kids parts. We don't say metatarsals or phalanges after all. My ds has a dinkle and will call it that until he decides to call it something different Confused when I have a ds it will be a twinkle or a foof.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 04/07/2015 16:20

You might get a few sniggers if you ever take your children to zizi's restaurant tumble :)

bumpertobumper · 04/07/2015 17:10

we use fanny - I had no idea that there are some areas of the country where this would be bad. Always been equivalent to willy to me.

What connotations does it have?

HootyMcTooty · 04/07/2015 17:13

To me fanny has always meant girls' bits, although we never used it ourselves, we knew what a fanny was. I can't think of any other meaning, except in the U.S. Fanny means bum, which could result in some serious misunderstandings I guess.

Orangeanddemons · 04/07/2015 17:15

Dds friend called them nuggets Shock

HeffalumpsnWoozles · 04/07/2015 17:16

Up until around 10 my mum used to use 'privates' many a time she would ask if I'd washed my privates Grin

ImNotTheLadies · 04/07/2015 17:19

Vulva is correct and appropriate

TheImprobableGirl · 04/07/2015 17:20

We call them woolly's and twinkle/ floof's Grin I wouldnt call mine a vulva or a vagina in public. Frankly that's just odd. Nor a penis. Let kids be kids

LunaMay · 04/07/2015 17:21

We use chi chi, but honestly don't remember where it came from.

Stoneysilence · 04/07/2015 17:24

We say widgy or front bottom

Esmesgirls · 04/07/2015 17:25

We call it a foof around here. A moo-moo indeed.

BeaufortBelle · 04/07/2015 17:38

Fanny and willy here. I don't think my DH has ever referred to my fanny by the correct terms and I don't call his willy his penis. And we are grown ups.

Have you had a poo today or have you passed a stool or faeces? Why the need for the absolutely correct terms amongst families?

Do you need a pee or a wee wee. Mummy surely you known that a urinate and that's the proper term.

Come now - why the need to be so serious about it all.

Iggly · 04/07/2015 17:44

There is no widely recognised general name for women's reproductive organs whereas for men, we can use willy. So I would rather say vulva than flower or some such ambiguous word.

It isn't about being serious, it is actually about thinking that having a vulva and vagina is nothing to be ashamed of and obscured with twee language.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/07/2015 17:51

Actually if we're going to get properly exact, shouldn't we teach them mons pubis too? Doesn't appeal ,does it?Grin

annatha · 04/07/2015 18:12

We had this conversation recently and settled on lady bits or private part. I didn't want anything cutesy or made up as it needs to be clear what she is saying, and also separate from her bottom. Vagina and vulva just sound too harsh for me though I understand why people use those terms. Fairy makes me cringe and will get confusing very quickly.

YonicScrewdriver · 04/07/2015 18:15

Why not, Dame? Or pubic area, that works as well.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/07/2015 18:17

Because nobody except on MN ever uses exact terminology even doctors and midwives, they just don't.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/07/2015 18:18

Yonic- I think you should change your name to vulvascrewdriverWink

goodasitgets · 04/07/2015 18:18

Anything that's obvious
If (God forbid) a child was touched inappropriately and went to a teacher/adult and said "X touched my pocket/moo/twink" it might be brushed off or not understood

MadameJosephine · 04/07/2015 18:25

I'm in the north and fanny would definitely be considered too crude for a child to use. It would be similar to hearing a little boy talk about his dick Shock

YonicScrewdriver · 04/07/2015 18:32

Fanny may be considered crude by some, but that is because it's been used in an adult way in the past: it is the only universal word (in the UK) that's anywhere near as acceptable as willy
