What to call my dd's 'bits'?

Posted here mainly for traffic... need answers!
We are at the stage where my dd needs (?) to have a word for her 'front bottom' (btw, I hate that term) and dh and I are not coming up with anything we like or agree on.
What do you all use? We also have a ds where we happily use willy. Just can't seem to find a similar term for girls that we want to use.
Help!

I don't like the 'bits' bit. It sounds insignificant :)

Lagoonablue · 04/07/2015 08:33

I don't think there is anything wrong with using silly names when they are small. Use anatomically correct names if you want though. My kids know the correct words but still say willie for penis and wiggly for vagina, clitoris and vulva.

Expecting little kids to differentiate and use the latter btw is just daft.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/07/2015 08:35

Tattie - I quite agreeHmm

Even my doctors have used undercarriage, down below, privates and pubic area, not once has any of them ever used vagina or vulva.

Ashwinder · 04/07/2015 08:38

We use 'girl parts' 'girl bits' in everyday conversation. Dd does know that the correct names are vagina and a vulva but we don't tend to use those terms day to day.

I think it's important she knows the correct names for their genitalia. My own parents were too embarrassed to name my girl parts (not even front bottom!) so they avoided calling them anything at all. My brother's penis was called a willy but apparently my bits weren't deemed worthy of a name. I'd never even heard of the word 'vagina' until I was about 9 or 10. Looking back, it was strangely disempowering.

Candycoco · 04/07/2015 08:43

The suggested of fanny upthread was that real?

It sounds so harsh and derogatory to me I can't imagine a child using that

rebbles · 04/07/2015 09:33

Lagoon I think wiggly is so cute!

I am a science teacher and I still won't be saying 'vulva' to my little girl once she arrives.

YonicScrewdriver · 04/07/2015 09:57

Why does fanny sound harsh but willy not? Both five letter words, consonant-vowel-double consonant - Y?

Candycoco · 04/07/2015 10:02

It's the connotations with fanny I guess. It's not used in a cute little child way like willy is in my experience at all

ghostspirit · 04/07/2015 10:11

we call it moo moo. but now my kids friends parents call their toddler moo moo as a nick name. my 2 kids keep laughing everytime they say it :/

fassbender · 04/07/2015 10:15

We call them 'bits' but my DD knows it as 'vagina' (I know that this isn't actually correct)

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 04/07/2015 10:18

We also use moo moo, and have done since dd was very little as she could easily say it. My mum used to refer to it as Minnie when I was small, but dd loves Minnie mouse and carrys one with her all the time do that would be confusing!!!
She's only 2. No need for proper terms yet. At the moment we're trying to explain difference between boobies and nippers.

MadameJosephine · 04/07/2015 10:26

I'm a midwife so am entirely comfortable with the anatomical terms but I just don't get the need to use them with small children. I wouldn't refer to their bottom as their buttocks/anus so why use vulva or vagina? DS had a willy when he was small and DD has a fairy

Chillywhippet · 04/07/2015 10:32

Lots of girls in our family/extended family.
SIL used fou fou and fairy. Which got change to Fouf.
I liked fangina...

backtowork2015 · 04/07/2015 14:51

we say her cha cha, my dh came up with it ages ago and it has stuck. makes us all laugh at the local cafe in our park....cafe cha cha Grin Grin Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/07/2015 15:10

Fanny is fine, it's sweet like fairy, not harsh at all imo. I've known lots of people including children use it. Maybe depends which part of the country you're from?

iliketea · 04/07/2015 15:13

Dd calls it her foof. I've told her the proper words for girl bits - vulva and vagina, she informed me she preferred foof, so we stick with that..

gamerchick · 04/07/2015 15:16

Heh tattie I did a proper howl at that.. It's so true Grin.

Candycoco · 04/07/2015 15:16

Maybe Dame. Fanny is definitely not acceptable for children to say round here, certainly not like fairy Shock

xalyssx · 04/07/2015 15:18

We say gigi

HootyMcTooty · 04/07/2015 15:22

I don't see the point in giving it a weird name, it sort of establishes early on that their parts are embarrassing/wrong/dirty. That said, with boys it's easier than girls, as girls have so much going on down there, all with different names, so we generally refer to it as "bits". As they get older I will teach them what each "bit" is for and what it's called, but for now (both pre-school) "bits" is fine.

thatsshallot · 04/07/2015 15:31

Me and dd have fannies, have no idea why pp things not appropriate? Do tend to say bits day to day but that's cos I can't remember whether a dd or ds in shower so just remind whoever to wash generic bits rather than scar enrage them asking them to wash wrong sex genitalia

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/07/2015 15:33

Candy, you're not in the South then?Grin

YonicScrewdriver · 04/07/2015 15:33

I think fanny and foof are both good words as they aren't used for anything else. Fairy, twinkle, Minnie, moo moo, cha cha all are!

Candycoco · 04/07/2015 15:37

No Dame midlands lol Grin

HootyMcTooty · 04/07/2015 15:39

thatsshallot personally I think fanny is fine, it's a recognised term for that area, but I personally wouldn't call them any of the other strange terms that some people use (flower, tuppence, nunny etc) because I don't see the point in being coy about something that is perfectly normal. It's just my view.
