12 Years A Slave?

CaveMum · 03/07/2012 12:44

That's the one.

GreenCard from what I remember it is based on a book about a free black man in the USA who is abducted and sold into slavery. BC plays one of his "owners".

CaveMum -- yes, and I vaguely remember reading that the book is now available copyright-free on the internet, so we can all go read it beforehand (so we can later concentrate on the visuals, not boring stuff like plot).

LadyClarice I know what you mean. I didn't go see the Colin Firth film that played in the South. When my husband bought "The Perfect Storm" I had to leave the room because Clooney's New England accent was so bad. I have heard, however, that our dear BC is a good mimic, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Are you American/Canadian, GreenCard? I don't remember being troubled by Clooney's accent in The Perfect Storm (although I saw it ages ago and don't have the strongest memory of it); as a Brit I don't think I'm that attuned to different American accents and whether people are doing good or bad ones.

I know BC is great at mimicking, so you're right, he may well be fine. I've watched a couple of clips from The Whistleblower though, in which he does American (I suspect generic American), and he wasn't awful but he wasn't that great ... Sorry Benedict Grin

NeedsAGreenCardForFantasyLand · 03/07/2012 15:30

I am...and hope I don't get kicked out. (Because we Yankees do appreciate BC. And I'm in Germany...aw hell, I'm making an international mess of this, aren't I?)

Yes, Clooney's accent was ALL over the map. It was painful. After I came back to watch the rest of it, I made DH change the audio over to the German. I actually was a kid in Boston when the real ship went down, so I remember the story.

But yeah, BC in Star Trek is going to be great (although I prefer the Skinny Batch to BulkBatch, although getting Batch in bulk would be perfect...) -- DH is a Trekker so he can ooh and ah about that, and I'll just sit there trying to control myself. :)

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 03/07/2012 15:40

Interesting. If it comes round on TV again I'll keep an ear out.

CaveMum · 03/07/2012 15:52

Nominations are out for the TV Choice Awards.

BC is up for Best Actor and Sherlock is up for Best Drama.

SkinnyBatch, BulkyBatch, GingerBatch ... I don't care, I'll take any kind of Batch BC wants to be.

Wouldn't I love to see this walking into my kitchen tomorrow morning...

LetUsPrey · 03/07/2012 21:01

Oh yes please! In fact, DH is out - he can walk into my kitchen right now if he wants.

LetUsPrey · 03/07/2012 22:12

And whilst DH is out, I'm taking the opportunity to watch last night's episode of Marple I recorded following CaveMum's very kind alert!

Those links are fantastic NeedsAGreenCard.

As they say, Vote early and vote often.

Not sure if they'll toss my vote (given my non-UK IP address), but no one can say I didn't try. :)

Will need to spend some more time this morning with those blogs. DS2 woke up at 5:15 and started wandering the halls, breaking a clay flowerpot on the stairs at 5:45, and DS1 was up and crying at 5:20 because he wet the bed. Maybe I can find some time later on to curl up in bed with the computer. If I'm really lucky, I might even get a BC dream out of it. (Hope springs eternal...)

LetUsPrey · 04/07/2012 07:16

Hope your day calms down a bit NeedsAGreenCard.

Morning everyone courtesy of WAYWB

LetUsPrey · 04/07/2012 08:15

Good. Grief. Cumberbuddy what are you doing to me? Those lips...

IsSamNormansDad · 04/07/2012 10:40

I'm also watching Miss Marple while DH is at work and kids away with MIL Grin

NeedsAGreenCardForFantasyLand · 04/07/2012 12:38

Prey, did you get a look at the link embedded in that post?

Am I the only one yelling at her computer, "I want my sock back!!"? Yes? Whoops. :D

TheAddict · 04/07/2012 19:58

Good grief, you girls certainly know how to cheer a semi-depressed Addict up...

From 'The Dairy of Bridgend Jones' (aka The Addict):

Number of cigarettes smoked/units of alcohol consumed: Far, far too many (v v bad)

Percentage of Working Mothers (and therefore breadwinners in household): 100% (v good but must suggest that Other Occupants Of House - ie sons - may Care To Contribute)

Percentage of Working Mothers Whose Boss Has Decided Not To Renew Their Contract After End Of Term: 100% (v v bad)

Percentage of Working Mothers Whose Boss Has Decided Not To Renew Their Contract After End Of Term But Have Suggested That Working Mother May Care To Come Back In September And Work As Volunteer ie For Nothing: 100% (v v v bad)

Percentage of Working Mothers Whose Boss Has Decided Not To Renew Their Contract After End Of Term But That Working Mother May Care To Come Back In September And Work As Volunteer ie For Nothing And Who Have Told Boss Precisely Where He Can Stick His Job: 100% (v v enjoyable)

Percentage of Working Mothers Whose Disfunctional Son Has Got Summer Job Working With Children Worse Off Than He: 100% (Yippee - is this Turning Of The Corner??): 100%

Percentage Of Working Mother Who Have Been Told That Disfunctional Son Loves Them Sort Of Really Oh Mum Don't Embarasse Me (double Yippee): 100%

Percentage Of Working Mother Who Have New And Fab Cabin Pressure T-Shirt Bought By SO And Who Are Still Having Filthy Fantasises About The Mighty Cumberlord: 100% And Don't Care.

Sorry about the job though Addict, is there anything on the horizon?

CaveMum · 04/07/2012 22:13

BC to appear in The Simpsons

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 04/07/2012 22:16

Boo for job. Hurrah for telling boss to stick it (I dream of that day). Big hurrah for hopefully progressing DS.

And what's this about a t-shirt?

Does this help?

TheAddict · 04/07/2012 22:55

Oh, a picture of BC ALWAYS helps!

The CP teeshirt is one of the RedBubble ones - v nice present from future SiL. He kows how to charm me....

Nothing on job front. Boss on economy drive. TheAddict points out that lack of Inspiring But Insane Adult Lit tutor may have deleteriously affect on future Ofsted report.

Boss then queries (a) use of word 'deleteriously'; (b) whether Addict meant 'effect' rather than 'affect'. Addict laughs hollowly and says 'precisely'.

Benedict, sweetheart, am worried that am about to lose walk-in stationery cupboard....

LetUsPrey · 04/07/2012 23:41

I've just trawled through the links on the last thread - I know, I know, I'm a selfless human being Grin - to find this for us.

Night night.

NeedsAGreenCardForFantasyLand · 05/07/2012 06:53

Oh, sweet newborn baby Jesus, Prey, to do that to me right before I have to go to work!! Will have to work extra hard to mind the road during the 35 minute commute.

Now to just get the kids to their respective day places, then I can pop on "Let's Get It On" once I'm in the car alone with my dirty mind...Vavoom!

CaveMum · 05/07/2012 07:19

Hmmm, finger-porn Grin

Lara Pulver tweeted this last night Grin

Addict, will keep fingers crossed for you that you find a new job quickly, better than the last.

Commute was uneventful except for the moron behind the wheel in the lorry in front of me who insisted on doing 60 kph in 70 khp AND 100 kph zones. I kept Zen by thinking of that finger tracing he was doing on that chair and thinking of places he could do that to me.

Was watching A Study In Pink again yesterday and was irritated by the pill thing. I mean, was I the only one waiting for Sherlock to just take one and say he's been building up an immunity to iocaine powder? (Sorry, The Princess Bride is one of my favourite films.) I wonder what BC would do with the Westley/Pirate Roberts role. Of course, I would selflessly offer to play Buttercup, except in my version, she would kick Humperdinck's ass herself. But to hear that voice whisper "As you wish..."
