You are totally innocent - you have done nothing and in the morning you wake up and find a suitcase with £1m in the garden.

WWYD?

If you reported it to the police, do you get any of it?

I'd roll over and go back to sleep.

squeakytoy · 16/02/2012 22:16

Actually no.... I would just shout at the dog for dragging the case into the garden...

"no Fido... that is Mummy's spare change pot... you naughty boy... "

Firawla · 16/02/2012 22:18

Call the police to report
If you report it to the police as being less than the actual amount you would probably get done for tampering with evidence or something so that may be quite a risky suggestion!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 16/02/2012 22:23

You need VicarInATutu to c

JugsyMalone · 16/02/2012 22:24

What is the legal position?

Obviously I have not found said suitcase. If you report it to the police - do they say "cheers" and you get nothing?

OP posts:
SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 16/02/2012 22:24

one and tell you whether you would get it back if you reported it.

GrahamTribe · 16/02/2012 22:25

You didn't find said suitcase? Oh.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 16/02/2012 22:26

I'm sure I read in the paper that someone found money in the train or something and handed it in, and then got it back after the allotted period. It was a substantial amount too.

Mandy2003 · 16/02/2012 22:27

How would you know there was £1m in it unless you counted it? Then your fingerprints would be all over it so the police would not believe you had not stolen it yourself. Catch 22!

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 16/02/2012 22:29

if you find it and hand it in, I beleive if no one has claimed it after 6 months then it is yours!!

scarletforya · 16/02/2012 22:29

It'd kill me but I'd have to leave it there. I'd be afraid drug dealers/crims would come looking for me if they found I took it !

Bohica · 16/02/2012 22:30

I would, um, oh, oo er, I don't know!

Tempted to keep it but I would report it to the police because you have to

iceandsliceplease · 16/02/2012 22:49

I'd take it round to our neighbours - DP & I are utterly convinced they are secret lottery winners, and are trying to get them to out themselves.

GoingForGoalWeight · 16/02/2012 23:19

NEE NAW NEE NAW NEE NAW

FREEZE

POLICE!

Hand over the suitcases....NOW!

I'll look after them, rubs hands < shady Grin >

aldiwhore · 16/02/2012 23:20

Actually, you've got me thinking.

I need more details.

Does it just appear in the garden overnight?

Or is it buried?

Honeydragon · 16/02/2012 23:26

My neighbours are lottery winners they don't leave cash in the garden .....although sometimes they post some through my letterbox, but for legitimate not criminal reasons.

lostboysfallin · 17/02/2012 00:10

Id run away with it
To the coast somewhere

HipHopOpotomus · 17/02/2012 00:13

I'd post on MN and go with those who say keep it the majority .

HipHopOpotomus · 17/02/2012 00:14

Actually I have no idea. Probably fantasise about keeping it but hand it in (wuss)

iceandsliceplease · 17/02/2012 00:25

Honeydragon our neighbours are secret lottery winners. .

MaybeSheWill · 17/02/2012 00:28

I'm sure the OP would donate it to the EDL.

Bogeyface · 17/02/2012 00:32

I wouldnt be able to keep it for worry that the notes were fake or marked or the numbers had been noted or something!

I would do the old handing it in thing and hope like hell no one noticed they had lost it :o

Aniseeda · 17/02/2012 00:37

I would have to hand it in as I would assume it was stolen and, if I kept it, I'd have scary people hunting me down to get it back.

I'd wish I could keep it though!

(I found a tenner on the floor in M&S once, handed it in and, two weeks later got the call to say I could pick it up from customer services as noone had claimed it Grin)

runningforthebusinheels · 17/02/2012 00:55

When I was about 10, I found a wallet with £10 in, but nothing else, in a leisure centre - a tenner was a fortune then. We handed it into management and it wassn't claimed so after 14 days I could collect it. I was told I was 'a very honest girl'

I believe the same is true of police stations - but I'm not sure if you get to keep a suitcase with £million Grin

deliciousdevilwoman · 17/02/2012 11:52

I would keep it.....I wouldn't even consider handing it in. I'd take my chances against the Mafioso or Fraud Squad knocking at my door!
