Good morning everyone. I thought I'd get the ball rolling with my week's offering. We've had news, of sorts, regarding my son's MRI scan. Looking forward to seeing what everyone else has come up with.

OMG SK, I thought you meant just then that 10,000 people read your blog post. Shock

notatschool · 19/11/2011 00:35

Not that it's not eminently worthy of such readership and all Grin

PetiteRaleuse · 19/11/2011 00:35

I have to say good night. I'm knackered and have had far too much vino

notatschool the day I get 10,000 hits in one day I will quite possibly have a heart attack, which would defeat the object. I think some people on here are not that far off ... something to aspire to...

DillyTante · 19/11/2011 07:51

I think this thread is a really good example of how it can be done. By nature blog posts are bound to be controversial. I think debate is good but we should try not to let it spill out on to this thread, as it is lovely and supportive. If we don't agree with someone's blog we can chose to avoid it, but I'd hate for people to avoid this thread because of differences in opinion.

FlamingoBingo · 19/11/2011 09:58

Suzy wrote about how do you talk to your kids about pornography on Free Your Parenting today.

MmeLindor. · 19/11/2011 11:28

Well. Damn. You had a bunfight snog and didn't let me know.

Ok. Last word on the subject from me.

I find it difficult the comprehend that you are leaving MN because (in part) of the Doghouse debacle because I find some of the posters on there are the worst culprits when it comes to flaming posters who ask an innocent question.

I also know that you will receive many emails from those who have a grudge against MN - there is one particular blogger who springs to mind who is always happy to stir up trouble and link to her 'MN is nasty' post.

There are just as many who will defend MN and we will never bring the two together.

Sadly, the moderate sensible people leave and we are left with less people who are strong enough to go against that very vocal minority. I have seen a thread flip when I posted that certain posters are being unreasonably harsh. Others join in and the thread becomes gentler and more supportive.

So basically, I am sorry that you feel that MN is not the place for you as we need more brave and supportive posters not less.

Anyhooooo. Off to a fair this afternoon and ceilidh this evening so no blogging for me. And no xfactor thread. Sad

PetiteRaleuse · 19/11/2011 12:06

My blog post for the day is about comfort foods. It is a blog hop so please join in if you like. Here it is

PetiteRaleuse · 19/11/2011 12:11

MmeL the DH thing was like a final straw. I know we have never agreed on that subject though which is fine, because life gets boring if everyone agrees.

The comments I have received have been from both camps, which is great. I am never happier than when blogs provoke opinions and reaction without provoking a bun fight.

Buns, food, hungry. Should not have blogged on an empty stomach this afternoon I am so hungry now after writing about yummy food.

SenseofEntitlement · 19/11/2011 14:31

The Camel's Hump got accepted on to MN bloggers too
It is only actually getting activated on the 1st December, due to being under construction and all, but I like it that way. We are getting one post a day up till the launch (then it will hopefully be more) so I am just trying to build up the reserve of posts to cover sudden attacks of writer's block :)

PetiteRaleuse · 19/11/2011 14:36

Yay, congratulations!

SouthernandCross · 19/11/2011 15:54

We finally caught the hamster

DillyTante · 19/11/2011 17:06

Great news! About the hamster and camel's hump.

I have blogger's block :(. I spend a lot of my life just talking about crap, to fill the silence. I am aware that it can sometimes be v dull. I really want my blog to be interesting and entertaining. I'm comparing myself to other blogs, and feeling the pressure. I just want to just witter on about nothing.

Crafting is going so so not much to report on that, and I am having a crisis of confidence anyway, feeling a bit like 'what am I actually adding to the world with this?'.

Anyone else ever get this?

PetiteRaleuse · 19/11/2011 17:48

Dilly, I get bloggers' block regularly, and when I do I do a list type post, like today's, or join a bloghop. My blog doesn't really have a theme though so I can put what I like really.

As for comparing my blog to others, I used to do that, and now figure that our blogs reflect us to a certain extent, and we are each unique. So witter away about nothing when you feel like it (my entire blog is pointless witterings) and make the most of the moments when you are really inspired.

What are any of us adding to the world really? I guess we are just putting out our opinions, rants, craft work, and wondering if anyone would like to listen to them. In the past you got these kinds of things from magazines, newspapers, where people are paid to write. And it wasn't an exchange - blogging allows us to exchange ideas, opinions, and get viewpoints on all kinds of things from lots of different perspectives.

I am not a crafter at all but love your blog (and some of the other crafting blogs on here). I would never go out and buy a crafting magazine as it isn't my niche, but looking at the blogs has opened me up to another world - and anything that makes us think about something different is a good thing right? It's like being a nosy neighbour and going and having a peek at other people's business. It's fascinating, and fun, and free. Win win.

DillyTante · 19/11/2011 19:54

I went ahead and blogged about some crap anyway

SenseofEntitlement · 19/11/2011 20:29

Something I've done when I've had bloggers block is to go on a press release hunt, or even finding old things I have written. Then I do a bit of a search around, find some more info, start typing, and end up typing about something different half the time anyway.
A tip DH gave me is good too. It is the blank page that is scary, so just write anything, or even copy and paste a quote. You don't need to even use it in tge finished piece, but it takes away the blank page at least.

DillyTante · 19/11/2011 20:35

The thing is, it's not really writers' block, I could write about plenty. But it's pressure to write about something interesting. Sometimes I start posts and I am bored just writing them, so they'd be dire reading!

strawberry17 · 19/11/2011 21:15

Dilly I'm just going round your blog now. I'm not a craft blogger but your blog looks lovley. I don't write anything interesting or witty either, I'm not a natural writer or anything, but I think blogs are a reflection of ourselves, our personality and sense of humour, and I love looking at people's blogs, I never buy magazines now.

DillyTante · 19/11/2011 21:36

Thanks for the positive messages. I never buy magazines now either. Why would you when you have better photography and more inspiration from blogs, as well as interaction. Well, I still get Mollie Makes, but that is my little bit of heaven every month where I can lose myself in crafty goodness!

SouthernandCross · 19/11/2011 21:50

I'm always blogging about some crap in my life that can't possibly interest anyone else out there!
DillyTante Your blog is fab, it makes me wish I was crafty!

strawberry17 · 19/11/2011 21:52

I like looking at the more down to earth every day people blogs, I don't follow any of the super alpha blogs with thousands of followers if you know what I mean. (Gawd hope I haven't offended anyone here).

ShirleyKnot · 19/11/2011 22:34

The thing I do when encountering a bloggers block is have a look through my digital photos. I can usually find something in there that will spawn some old bolleux something.

I went to a baby shower and baked a cake for it. It actually turned out really well (for me)

strawberry17 · 20/11/2011 08:48

Lovley cake, mine always burn round the edge and undercook in the middle, like the tip about the spaghetti, I always use a fork (doh!) I'm not a natural cook LOL

QueenMaeve · 20/11/2011 22:43

Dilly I have been like that too lately. I haven't had the time to make anything to share on my blog. I feel sometimes when I do my rambling posts, it will put people off coming back! I am very aware that I do not have a talent for writing like some fantastic bloggers do and feel a bit embarassed by my drivel sometimes.
Have been trying to decide whether or not I should just post when I've a project done. Even though it might only be a few times a month.
Don't know really. Any thoughts would be welcomed.
my post today my 3 year old son doesn't do santa

PetiteRaleuse · 21/11/2011 10:31

I found the less I posted the less I wanted to post, and my blog went ages without anything from time to time. I guess it also depends on how much you would like your blog to go off topic. As I said above mine doesn't really have a topic so i blather on about anything.

Maybe the key thing is to take the pressure off ourselves, use other blogs as inspiration rather than as comparison, and read as much as possible, because it is reading that gives lots of ideas for writing.

notatschool · 21/11/2011 14:21

I came across a button on a blog a while ago: "blogging without obligation". It originated from this post here www.tartx.com/blog/?page_id=233

I kind of liked that it seemed to say I'm going to write what I want when I want, and not be bullied or pressured by my blog.

The last thing I want is for my blog to be yet another thing on my todo list. Would really take all the fun out of it, and of course would then automatically never get done like everything else on there
