Good morning everyone. I thought I'd get the ball rolling with my week's offering. We've had news, of sorts, regarding my son's MRI scan. Looking forward to seeing what everyone else has come up with.

I suppose there is a limited amount of time that the world can spend reading blogs.

But the more good blogs there are out there, the more people will choose to read blogs instead of watching TV or ironing or doing various other things.

Right now, other people having good blogs is making the "slice of cake" bigger.

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 17/11/2011 08:44

ScatCatShoo - I think it maybe depends on whether your blog focuses on facts / instructions ("Here is the way to make the perfect apple strudel") versus opinions / debate. Instructional blogs probably do compete, because ultimately you're only going to need one strudel recipe. Debate / opinion blogs, on the other hand, probably become more relevant the more of them there are.

MmeGuillotine - I think "grown up" is probably when you realise that the wedding-ring doesn't fix everything, and Jo and Laurie could still have carried a torch for each other even though they were married to other people. Wink

Morning all, really enjoying reading everyone's posts.

My most recent post 'the dictaphone never lies' kickstarts my experiment to see whether I'm actually improving or not. Hope one or two musicians out there will be up for joining in with the challenge.

Trills · 17/11/2011 09:19

Jo and Laurie didn't carry a torch for each other. Or she didn't for him, anyway. She saw him as a brother. So when he married her sister it was very convenient.

Saturday is E day and I think I'm more nervous than my kids are.

QueenMaeve · 17/11/2011 10:08

my post on when I put up the Chrsitmas tree

DillyTante · 17/11/2011 10:31

Hi all

I'm still reading too. This thread is great as I rarely bother with blog readers and instead am using this thread and twitter to alert me to posts.

Scatcat, I think crafting blogs are different as you are sharing inspiration and tutorials so the bigger the pool the better.

I have seen two blogs that are almost identical, and I did muse for a while as to whether they were rivals or friends.

DillyTante · 17/11/2011 10:42

Southernandcross, I commented on your blog, but I hope you don't think I meant it in a critical way!

Tw1nkle · 17/11/2011 11:09

Really enjoying writing my new blog doingsomethingdifferentuk.wordpress.com/, but I think I need to write a little more each day.....

Dilly have replied! I hope it makes some sense, I'm no Tiger Mom but I just feel this is important!

Sex Relationship Ed in UK and teaching teens about healthy relationships.

MmeGuillotine · 17/11/2011 14:21

I've just been given a Kindle to review - here's my thoughts. :)

Trills · 17/11/2011 14:26

You were given a Kindle? Do you get to keep it?

MmeGuillotine · 17/11/2011 14:27

Yes, I get to keep it. :)

PetiteRaleuse · 17/11/2011 14:38

Lucky you MmeG - I love mine it is my most prized possession. I wish I could be given one Envy then I could have one for bedside table and one for my handbag

Trills · 17/11/2011 14:40

What if you'd written that it was ok but you weren't really that bothered? Wink

MmeGuillotine · 17/11/2011 14:42

Heh, well I ascertained that I was keeping it before it arrived as I needed to know if I had to keep it away from the children and try my best not to get too attached to it. ;)

I didn't actually expect to like it as much as I did and was fully prepared to tell the truth whatever happened. :)

Trills · 17/11/2011 14:54

I have one - not one like that but an older one, I love mine too :o

ScatCatShoo · 18/11/2011 05:31

Thanks for the insights guys! I have been thinking about it a bit too much, I really should learn to relax a bit more :)

But that woman's post really got to me!

notatschool · 18/11/2011 09:44

Scatcat can you post a link to that article you were talking about?

FWIW, I don't agree - even with food blogs, I like to try different recipes for things I already make. I think if your blog is well written and you promote it, you should get readers. There'll always be someone who seems more successfu and popular l than you I guess (or in my case everyone, lol, cept I'm not bitter Grin )

I was inspired to start blogging through reading other home-ed blogs. It's a great community, I haven't come across any sense of competition, the more ideas out there the merrier!
