Lies back and awaits application of poultice

I've heard it called some things in my time Confused

DumSpiroSpero · 04/11/2011 23:27

Now RH has just come out with "I offered you friendship..." to Isabella.

Where did they get these scriptwriters from? Confused

LadyDamerel · 04/11/2011 23:31

Maud, you do force me to quote Much rather often these days. And I thought you were such a nice, refined lady.

How wrong can you be about a person?

::shakes head sadly::

Actually, LadyD I'm surprised Much knew such a big long word.

Marian "offered friendship", to someone, IIRC. and wasn't the PLFW eavesdropping at the time?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 04/11/2011 23:36

::Looks up, mid-poultice::

You see, I don't get that reference either. I don't remember Much saying anything memorable.

Anyway, I'm busy. G'night.

::shuts door firmly::

DumSpiroSpero · 04/11/2011 23:41

A quote for Maud, while we're on the subject:

I was ill, burning with a terrible fever and could not rest, and ? you came to me. It was black as pitch but I knew it was you; your voice soothing me and your hands, pressing compresses to my skin.
And I was so glad . . .?

Grin
SupermassiveLBD · 05/11/2011 00:02

Well, folks, it's stupid o'clock here yet again, and i was going to try for an early knight.

Goodnight all.

DumSpiroSpero · 05/11/2011 07:04

And the award for worst Mummy in the world goes to....

Spiro...who was having so much fun drinking wine and Mumsnetting last night that she completely forgot to be the tooth fairy Blush

Of course Miss Spiro knows that fairies can't fly in heavy rain as their wings don't work (phew!)

TransylvanianVampiress · 05/11/2011 07:49

Ooh Spiro!!Grin. Just have to remember next time when it's raining heavily to forget again!! Oh the stresses we put ourselves through just to keep the magic alive!!Grin

Feeling almost human this morning. Definitely up for a visit from the doctor if he can come up from down under for the day.Smile

Haven't heard jinx for decades years twigs!!Grin

Maud make sure you take some adequate security with you for your Canesta team 2012! Have you been reading the newspapers about it over last couple of days!! Hoping JP and LN are working hard!!Grin

DumSpiroSpero · 05/11/2011 07:57

Glad you're on the mend Vampy!

Miss S has an ongoing pen-pal thing going on with the fairies which has lapsed over the last few months, so I think I'm going to have to resurrect that to drive the point home.

TBH it's the third tooth in three weeks and it fell out so suddenly yesterday it just didn't really register with me at all. Confused

PassTheTwiglets · 05/11/2011 08:10

A Canesta team is very different from a Canasta team, Vampy - sounds like the former need a dose of natural yoghurt :o Glad you are feeling better today. Hope you are too, Maud.

Spiro, we have the penpal fairy thing, too. MissTwigs left a note outside, asking for a fairy to sign her name. I signed it from 'Tulip Twinkle' in my tiniest, curliest writing and she was almost hysterical with excitement when she found it! There's another one out there now, asking for her to draw a self-portrait (uh-oh) and asking if she lives in Fairyland or not. She is 8.5 and she really, really believes in fairies - is that odd? Half of me thinks it's sweet and half of me worries a bit!

I'm off to the new Westfield shopping centre today, with mum and aunt. However, our last credit card bill was HORRIFYING so not sure how much spending I shall be able to do.

TransylvanianVampiress · 05/11/2011 08:20

Oops!! Don't actually know what canasta is twigs!Blush

DD at 7 suddenly came out with "fairies don't exist" comment a few weeks ago and "don't you just go into my room take the tooth and leave money"Shock She sounded desperate for us to reassure her that it was all true and they did exist. Not wanting to lie I think I said if you believe then it is true! But I don't think we'll have much longer! It was around this age I started having feelins Santa wasn't real but I kept in believing until the night I had to do it for DD for a little while longerSmile

Is that the new shopping centre by the Olympic Site? Have to let us know what it is like. Have fun window shopping. Wink

TransylvanianVampiress · 05/11/2011 09:11

Canesta sounds fabless HmmConfused

canasta however sounds better. Looks like we could start an on-line academy game!!Smile

TheSmallPrint · 05/11/2011 10:33

Twigs I love that Miss Twigs believes in fairies. I am a firm believer in letting be young and full of childish imagination for as long as possible.

TheSmallPrint · 05/11/2011 10:34

How are you feeling today Vampy?

I haven't time to catch up on the pages and pages of nonsense intellectual debate that I missed yesterday - sorry. Smile

TheSmallPrint · 05/11/2011 10:46

I just had to show this to SmallBoy Minor, it's my absolute favourite Cbeebies song of all time -ever! I hate the new wishy washy autmn song it's so blah. SB Major and I used to dance around to this song every year til the changed it.

TheSmallPrint · 05/11/2011 11:00

Also can I have a not very stealthy boast? SB Major just had his parents evening and it was fab! So much better than last year, his teacher is lovely and clearly enjoys what she does. They have assed their reading and spelling ages and his reading age (at 7yr 6mo) is 10yrs 6mo and his spelling was 9yrs 6mo, she also said he was a natural mathematician and a joy to teach

TheSmallPrint · 05/11/2011 11:00

assed?? Assessed obviously!

TransylvanianVampiress · 05/11/2011 11:33

I think assed is still far better spelling age than a 3yo!Grin. That's great for SB Major!! Well done!! If you can't boast here in the privacy of the academy where can you!!Smile

Much better today but still a bit wibbly. Only managing 20-30 mins upright before needing to sit/lie down! Confused

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/11/2011 16:39

::Staggers in, wheezing::

If I may have a not very stealthy self-pity session, I am still ill. The goose fat and brown paper poultice has not worked and I am coughing so much I think my lungs may turn inside-out.

::Pathetic whinge::

Well done to SB Major. The Girl's school will never tell us what SATs level they have reached or what their reading age is, but as ::dreadful pushy mother:: I did it myself with an online test I know she's more than fine.

Misses Spiro and Twigs are quite unusual, I think, in still believing in fairies at their age but that's a good thing, isn't it? Better than the world-weary cynicism that so many kids affect.

.
TransylvanianVampiress · 05/11/2011 17:37

Aw maud. You'll have to get me Thornton to rub that vicks in harder into your chest. Perhaps a session in a steam do would help loosen your chest somewhat too.

I think it is good not to tell children their SATs. DD has been told her level and where she is supposed to be by end of year / she worked out she's already at that target or higher and said I don't need to work as I'm already at the level I need to be!Shock. A little chat and her teacher followed about how she has to still keep going up regardless of average levels!!

Right I'm off to get dressed put some warm clothes on to go watch some fireworks. Would much rather be back in bed but the colonel is off playing sport so I'm taking the kids. Thankfully just round the corner!

Hoping to be back for most of strictly in bed!
Smile

TheSmallPrint · 05/11/2011 17:38

Maud, sorry to hear that you are poorly too, hope that you recover quickly

We're off to a fireworks display and some hotdogs so see you all later.

TransylvanianVampiress · 05/11/2011 17:40

I need lady D's proof reader!! Steam room!! Not steam do?!Confused

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/11/2011 17:51

::Wheezes:: I'm already doing the inhaling steam thing and spraying everything and everyone in the house with Dettol. Now my family are preparing to go out and leave me here to die watch tv on my own.

I agree completely, Vampy, about not telling the children their levels - The Girl is well-enough aware of her abilities and we have had to have a few, ahem, chats about that - but given that we get a lot of blurb from the school about how school and parents must work together to support their child's learning blah blah blah (which obviously we want to do) it would help us to know how best to do that.

::Wonders whether Mr Thornton would care to join her in the steam room::
