Thanks girls. Not quite sure what to say to him eitherConfused

Last we heard a couple of weeks ago all was positive and getting better we thought but she had another scan earlier this week and is now back in hospital. She's refusing to talk to the colonel til she know more. His stepfather sounds as well as can be expected. So sad - as far as in laws go I couldn't really ask for betterSad. Colonel's brother lives abroad.

Such horrid timing for colonel but he doesn't want to go see his mum as she won't see him til she can tell him more. So we are staying here til Sunday as planned.

Sorry for bringing Sad news. Not had a gReAt week as a group have we?Confused

Well my little bro and girlfriend arrive shortly so we'll be 12 in the castle - will be lively tomorrow.Smile

DumSpiroScaro · 28/10/2011 21:26

Assuming (and it sounds like you do) all get on, I should think the Colonel is taking a lot of comfort from being with you and the kids and your family at the moment.

Hope whatever the prognosis is you can find something positive in there somewhere...if nothing else you are very lucky to have lovely in-laws you get on with.

Hello, ladies! here I am. the internet wasn't out today, but I was. there's a turn up for the book, eh? I am going to have to be out tomorrow, too. I am just not used to emerging from my lair for so long, so often

Vampy, so sorry to hear about the Colonel's sad news. How awful for him, and for you too, you must feel so helpless. Thanks from me too.

It is good to hear you are on the mend though, Twigs. And DrTwigs' style of holding the fort for a poorly wife seems oh, so familiar. One day in bed on my part and the whole house falls down about my ears.

LadyDamnearhell · 28/10/2011 21:39

Pah, two days in a row of going out, Massive? That sounds dangerously like a RL to me.

SupermenacingLBD · 28/10/2011 21:41

Yup,LadyD, horrible, isn't it? Please don't drum me out of the Academy.

DumSpiroScaro · 28/10/2011 21:44

There's only one way to guarantee your continued membership I'm afraid Madam Massive...ticket to London for 30th November Wink Grin

That's a thought - have you got Skype?

OP posts:
LadyDamnearhell · 28/10/2011 21:46

I'll need a stiff bribe, Massive if I am to be persuaded to let you stay.

2 outings in one week may be acceptable but 2 in 2 days? I'm sorry but that goes completely against all Academy rules.

Give me some decent Gizzy-ness and I may reconsider my position.

SupermenacingLBD · 28/10/2011 21:48
DumSpiroScaro · 28/10/2011 21:49

Webcam? Skype is pretty easy to set up.

I could take my laptop and you could have a virtual pizza with us!

OP posts:
SupermenacingLBD · 28/10/2011 21:50

Okay, LadyD, you can have Gizzy all to yourself tonight, then. as i am too knackered to entertain him in the manner to which he has become accustomed ever since this 'ere Academy started up

TransylvanianVampiress · 28/10/2011 21:52

Wouldn't be the same without you menace!! I've certainly missed you - so less of the RL please - we need you!!Smile. Seriously though - enjoy yourself.

Tis weird - both colonel and I kind of knew his mum's cancer would end like this - but still a shock. Tis really hard as colonel grandmother is still alive, going strong and no idea how ill her daughter is as she's coping with her husband who is going senile very quickly but she's refuses help so colonel's mum's worrying about that. Up to me and colonel to make sure his
Mum doesnt worry about her mum if you're following me?!Hmm.

No idea what or when to tell the kids - think ill let them enjoy this weekend first.

Thanks for listening!!Smile

Oh oh oh - we're having proper fish & chips tomorrow night!!! Can't wait!!!Smile

TransylvanianVampiress · 28/10/2011 21:56

Crossed with lots of you!!

Yes come come massive! If you come I'll have no excuse to be sensible a wimp!Wink

LadyDamnearhell · 28/10/2011 21:59

Well, seeing as I am lonesome til Sunday I shall keep him til then and you may keep your place, Massive. ::generous::

I too had the Skype thought for Massive on the 30th. I like the idea of her being beamed in from the Island.

However, I have no idea how to do it Grin.

SupermenacingLBD · 28/10/2011 22:01

Oh Vampy, what a nightmare. I hope the fish and chips help a tiny bit - which sounds very stupid I know, but when things are grim sometines a few moments spent thinking of something else do help.

Spiro, i have about six webcams here, take your pick! Grin Something with our connection makes it such a pain -- freezing, dropping off, no sound, feedback, etc etc. we gave up eventually.

DumSpiroScaro · 28/10/2011 22:02

I've got Skype set up and do a wireless connection with my mobile if they don't have Wi-fi - all Massive needs is Skype and webcam and for us to swap 'numbers' and we're away!

Am just preparing the contents of 3 'unlucky dip' buckets for tomorrow's Halloween festivities.

Have three small pumpkin shaped buckets which are going to be filled with foil wrapped chocolate balls with black sack taped over the top and a small slit cut so the kids can't see what they have to rummage in to get them, namely - porridge, jelly and spaghetti dyed various disgusting colours! [hgrin]

OP posts:
SupermenacingLBD · 28/10/2011 22:10

Yuck, Spiro Grin What it is to have a mum with a vivid imagination!

How are eveyone's DCs with all this? Any little ones a bit scared?

DumSpiroScaro · 28/10/2011 22:13

Black porridge - not appetising!

Blood red jelly and all going well in the morning, green and purple spaghetti worms!

I have to have a good imagination - I am seriously crap at the practical stuff!

OP posts:
SupermenacingLBD · 28/10/2011 22:17

Surely, though your sort of parenting is much more fun than Serious by-the-Book mums.

How do you make black porridge and coloured spaghetti? Food dye?

LadyDamnearhell · 28/10/2011 22:20

The MiniDs are desperate to go Trick or Treating, it's a huge tradition in the village - everyone who is happy to be knocked on has a pumpkin outside their door and lots of the older people who don't have young children dress up and decorate their hallways. It's great fun but always happens on Halloween itself though so they'll have to wait until Monday.

LadyDamnearhell · 28/10/2011 22:22

I may nick the icky dip though, for the tub of sweets we'll leave outside our door, that should liven things up for them Grin.

SupermenacingLBD · 28/10/2011 22:26

Halloween isn't big here, yet, but it will come eventually, I expect. Actually, I seem to remember it was never quite that popular in the UK, till recently. The American influence, no doubt.

DumSpiroScaro · 28/10/2011 22:27

Yup! Well, I haven't made the spaghetti yet, but I'm assuming if I chuck a load of colouring into the cooking water (am using paste so it's quite concentrated) the pasta will absorb it as it cooks.

Tbh I think my approach is partly innate reballion against my uber-practical mum. She was/is great but practicalities always come first and I can't really remember her doing anything remotely wild when I was growing up (she did let me bury her up to her neck in sand once).

Obviously I manage the practical stuff, but I'm not naturally efficient and all the school rules and routines drive me up the wall. I had a phase towards the end of the summer tern when the teaching assistant from her class was constantly on the phone cos we'd forgotten something and it was the most stupid, trivial stuff. I think because I work 5 minutes away they think I can just come and go as I please.

For instance, they made a huge fuss about her not having a jacket on a sunny day purely because it was forecast to rain and they were on a trip. Then on another similar day, they phoned up because she didn't have a cap for sports day even though it was forecast to, and did, thunderstorm so the whole bloody thing was rained off.

I know technically I should be on top of this stuff (moreso the cap) but seriously walking from a coach in the car park to a castle and back again in a shower is hardly going to kill anybody!

DumSpiroScaro · 28/10/2011 22:28

I must admit I'm very anti-trick or treating, but the way you do it Lady D, and being in a small village it does sound like fun.

I prefer a bit of knees up though!
