Well have just watched both vids (thanks for sorting that link Small - cocked it right up didn't I?!).

Both great, but really loved the first one, although shed a few more tears for Sergeant Porter (I know, I'm quite pathetic).

DumSpiroSpero · 22/08/2011 10:58

PS - can I suggest that we have a final JP themed thread next time?

DumSpiroSpero · 22/08/2011 11:15

I promise I will try and make this the last contribution to my Strikeback rantings, but I liked this review:

www.cultbox.co.uk/reviews/episodes/1621-strike-back-project-dawn-episode-1-review

DumSpiroSpero · 22/08/2011 11:16

Well, actually it wasn't quite as disparaging as it could have been, but it'll do! Grin

TheSmallPrint · 22/08/2011 11:20

I thought that was quite a kind review! Grin

SupermassiveLBD · 22/08/2011 11:20

What do you mean "final" Spiro.? JP will always be around, in my book .I am going to ignore SB2 as a weird alternate universe aberration.

I just had my own little celebration of Armitage Day as i had the place to myself for the first time since... well, I can't remember. So I watched the first DVD of RH 1, three eps, back to back. Yum. Bliss. Even with that horrible mustard yellow rag he has tied round his throat, I am in luurve. Being as he's doing so much sniffing, I suppose it's liberally larded with goosegrease or something, the medieval version of Vicks....

TheSmallPrint · 22/08/2011 11:24

Stop thinking about greasing up Gizzy Massive, you know it's not good for your heart! Grin

DumSpiroSpero · 22/08/2011 11:25

I was planning on watching the last episode of SB series 1 and doing some writing, but I can't bring myself to watch it at the moment.

SupermassiveLBD · 22/08/2011 11:52

Oh, Spiro, don't worry, I understand so well. i get really involved in my chaRActer myself. I get awfully upset with the tragedy of it all for him, and then i have to slap myself on the wrist and remind myself he's not real.

On the lighter side of my obsession, funny you should mention greasing up Gizzy, Small, my thoughts were sort of tending towards wondering if he'd like his chest rubbed. however did you guess?

OP posts:
TheSmallPrint · 22/08/2011 12:20

I'm sure he'd love it Massive

SupermassiveLBD · 22/08/2011 13:00

Just managed to watch the birthday vids. I did laugh at the very last bit of the first one. Amen to that! Grin

Small, if you want to go ahead of me in the Gizzy-greasing, I will not trample over you, honest. Or any other Academy member for that matter. Anyone else = fair game. Wink

Couple of quotes from Strikeback FB page:

Cannot believe john porter is dead, thats bollocks.

Can't believe I waited all this time for the new series and they kill the Porter, the character that made the show what it was. In about 3 minutes. Then to replace him with 2 arrogant twats!

SupermassiveLBD · 22/08/2011 14:09

Very perceptive comments, there, Spiro.

Why oh why do they do this? i guess because they are arrogant twats themselves, so they feel at home with such characters.

OP posts:
DumSpiroSpero · 22/08/2011 14:17

Nail on the head Massive!

DumSpiroSpero · 22/08/2011 14:18

Incidentally, both those quotes were from blokes who'd watched the first series.

SupermassiveLBD · 22/08/2011 14:25

So not just because they have a yen for strong but gentle soldier boys, then?

Which is not really why we are all so disappointed, i know. I am so glad i wasn't able to watch it, beecause i know i would have, if I could.

I expect the new 'improved' version will strike a chord with some though.

So not just because they have a yen for strong but gentle soldier boys, then?

Well I suppose they might, in theory, but I got the impression it was more seeing JP as role model than fancying him (which of course is exactly the POV I'm coming from myself...) Grin!

DumSpiroSpero · 22/08/2011 16:30

Another review excerpt:

"Overheated and oversexed, with shades of 24 ? had Jack Bauer paused after every gunfight for international tail. Violent and profane, awash in gratuitous nudity and gruesome overkill, the unapologetically crude Strike Back is unsparing in its body count. It's rather nasty, in every way imaginable."

DumSpiroSpero · 22/08/2011 16:38

Can you tell I'm bored of doing Miss Spiro's homework?

SupermassiveLBD · 22/08/2011 16:42

Oh, I am glad the Man is out of something that can be dubbed rather nasty.

Not that's is our business, what or what not he chooses to take part in, but still...

Any idea what the US reviews were like?

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 22/08/2011 16:45

I am bored too, a bit of spare time on my hands for once, but too knackered to profit from it.

OP posts:
DumSpiroSpero · 22/08/2011 16:51

I get the impression that the Americans were rather more enthusiastic.

Have heard a lot of comments about it being the 'new 24' which was very popular. I guess it's fine if you like that kind of thing, but seems really sad to take something with so much potential and turn it into something that most of its original fans will really dislike.

Still, given how much larger the population of the US is, I'm sure it'll make the powers that be more money by taking this direction so a big pat on the back for them I guess Hmm.

PassTheTwiglets · 22/08/2011 16:52

DrTwigs has gone back to work today, booooo hiss :( So having to entertain the little darlings by myself whilst still doing housey stuff is coming as a bit of a shock :) Mind you, they have been very good at amusing themselves today. They are now decorating bowls with porcelain pens - wish I'd got one for me and I could've done a special birthday one :) SUppose I should be watching and enthusing, as they've been left to their own devices for much of the day.

Doh, bad timing - DH is out tomorrow night, not tonight, so probably no vid-watching for me. Though I could take the laptop upstairs and kindly offer to let him watch something of his own choosing - I'm nothing if not altrusitic...

SupermassiveLBD · 22/08/2011 16:57

Those porcelain pens sound like fun, you could buy plain white cups and make your own N&S tea-time set. Twigs.

What time are we congregating tonight? I have to disapear for a while, in a few minutes.

DumSpiroSpero · 22/08/2011 17:05

I'll probably be here by 8.30 - maybe earlier if I can manage it. Am just hoping Miss S doesn't remember I mentioned couch camping tonight. Will have to wing it and hope I can convince her I meant next week if she does.
I will also be upstairs with laptop Twigs!

I have also largely left Mr S to it with Miss S today as he's working tomorrow and Wednesday and off to a funeral miles away on Thursday. She certainly has him wrapped around her little finger - he took her to buy a black tie this morning and she came back with a bottle of perfume!!!

Don't know what she's got that I haven't...
