Sorry to hear you're under surveillance, Small.

TheSmallPrint · 27/08/2011 10:47

That kind of surveillance would be most welcome Maud but only if I'd had the chance to dress nicely and do my hair and make up first

PassTheTwiglets · 27/08/2011 10:52

Twigs will you be watching Dr Who tonight?

Do bears bear? Do ducks duck?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/08/2011 10:55

Is it new Doctor Who or a repeat? Girl and Bloke have been arguing about this for days.

PassTheTwiglets · 27/08/2011 10:57

In case you weren't a fan of Moonlighting, that means "yes", btw :)

In fact the whole day is Operation Doctor Who. DrTwigs is taking Twigboy out for the morrning, to tire him out (well, not just for that reason, it's somehting DS wants to go to) and the plan is then that he will be nicely ready for bed by about 6.45 so we can come down and watch it with MissTwigs. It doesn't work when TwigBoy is still up - it's too boring for him so he keeps interrupting. Mind you, it's incredibly frustrating watching it with MissTwigs anyway as she chatters NON-STOP throughout it. Ah, happy days before the kids, hen we used to watch it with a Bellini on a Saturday night...

Will you be able to watch tonight too, Smally?

PassTheTwiglets · 27/08/2011 11:00

New Doctor Who, Maud. It's the 2nd part of the current series, so it follows directly on from the last episode. For the forseeable future, all DrWho series will be shown in 2 parts (usually one half in the spring and the other half in the autumn). Tonight's episode is the fabulously-titled "Let's Kill Hitler" :)

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/08/2011 11:17

Ah, Moonlighting. That brings back memories. I don't 'get' Bruce but I used to love Moonlighting and think I watched it all.

So, your idea of a hot Saturday night, Twiggy, is Dr Twigs, a Bellini and ::incredulous:: Doctor Who?

PassTheTwiglets · 27/08/2011 11:26

No, Maud - two Bellinis.

DumSpiroSpero · 27/08/2011 11:26

Ok am panicking - has anyone made ice cream before without the aid of a machine?

Recipe says to let infused milk cool for an hour before doing the eggs and sugar bit, then to cool again before freezing, but this is assuming you're using an ice cream machine.

It's going to be nearly 2pm before I get it in the freezer - that'll be ok won't it? not sitting down for starter til half 7.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/08/2011 11:31

Calling me lacking in imagination - Maud, you're lacking in imagination - but Doctor Who struck me as an incongruent ingredient for a sophisticated and romantic evening.

Spiro - Sorry, no. We have an ice cream machine (about the only kitchen gadget apart from the magimix and breadmaker which really pulls its weight, round here). I would have guessed that 5 hours was long enough for it to freeze. Can you ask in cookery corner or whatever it's called?

::stranger to the kitchen emoticon::

DumSpiroSpero · 27/08/2011 11:37

The really bloody annoying thing is that Mr S suggested buying a decent ice cream maker at the beginning of summer and I said, "Don't be stupid - we'll never use it." Confused

PassTheTwiglets · 27/08/2011 12:07

Well that's just what we used to do on a normal Saturday, Maud, I wasn't talking about romantic evenings. But DrWho genuinely is one of life's true pleasures for us. We get such enjoyment out of it and it's lovely to have a shared enjoyment like that.

Spiro, I've only ever used a machine as well, I'm afraid. I wouldn't bother letting the milk cool for an hour - I'd just shove it in the freezer for 10 minutes. I presume you know that without a machine you have to break up the ice crystals every few hours...

Doing Hood o'Clock withg MissTwigs and we just had the loveliest Guy moment. Marian has the chance to escape the razing of Nottingham but she says to Guy that she won't leave him whilst he's in trouble. The look of surprise and pleasre on his face, as he thinks that she does cxare for him after all is just GORGEOUS. The screencap doesn't do it justice.

PassTheTwiglets · 27/08/2011 12:09

ROFL, we've just had Guy doing that hip-thrusting-whilst-riding-horse thing. Blish.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/08/2011 12:18

Get someone to buy you an ice cream maker for Christmas, Spiro. Because you're worth it.

Oh yes, I do see the need for shared enjoyment, Twigs. Round here it tends to be QI on Dave ::equally romantic emoticon:: but ::swoon:: at Guy's moment of hope. And then there he is all aglow as Nottamun burns.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/08/2011 12:19

Hip thrusting while riding? You know there's only one answer to that.

PassTheTwiglets · 27/08/2011 12:23

And as for decent ice-cream makers, we have a really cheap one (in fact it was a free gift with something or other) and it's worked fine for years. You can get them for £20 on amazon.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/08/2011 12:26

Ours is a Magimix, I think, but we've certainly found that a very cheap and cheerful bread maker has been absolutely fine.

DumSpiroSpero · 27/08/2011 13:30

Well, it's just gone in the freezer and if the unfrozen 'custard' is anything to go by, it should be yummy!

Meringues crisping, peaches nectarines poached, just the savoury stuff to do now.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/08/2011 13:41

That all sounds yummy, Spiro. I could get there in, oh, an hour and a half. ::wink::

Twiggy - Do you remember we spoke a while back about Pumpkin Patch children's clothes? They've got a sale on now where the sale stuff is BOGOF. So I bought Girl a lovely dress for £7 and got another one free. Check it out.

TheSmallPrint · 27/08/2011 13:43

No Maud - two Bellinis Grin

We shall be watching too Twigs.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/08/2011 13:49

Girl is eating lunch while watching Merlin on CBBC. She has spotted the actor who was Meg in RH but I have omitted to tell her that she was also in Sparkhouse as that is not, even in this lackadaisical house, something which I think is suitable for her.

Perhaps I will make some cocktails tonight.

::goes in search of bucket::

DumSpiroSpero · 27/08/2011 14:02

Perhaps I will make some cocktails tonight.

In that case, I'll PM you my address!!! Grin

TheSmallPrint · 27/08/2011 15:05

Cocktails?

SupermassiveLBD · 27/08/2011 15:13

My word, haven't you lot been busy!

My day has become a trifle skewed because the dreaded insomnia hit last night - not the nice Insomnia who occasionally pops in here for a quick thud, the nasty up all hours sort. so i reckon 5.30 a.m. fade-out at the earliest. Groan. That was a bad groan, Twigs btw.

Now for a nice one. Though I can't lay claim to a dReAm, oh thudsville Twigs, he does indeed like that move and so do I. He did it to me the first time we "met" --not that there has been much of another meeting And the party bag incident made me smile-I thought he was 40, not 4, Maud. Confused

But I'll see your Gizzy moment of happiness and your hip-thrusting, and raise you a surprise sighting, on flicking the TV on, of him in his series three splendour of flowing raven locks and new outfit from Ye Belstaffe a/w 1193-4 "Eastern Promise" collection.

And a stupendous flaring-nostrilled strop with baby sis, and then OMO ---

The Hand of Utter Gorgeousness - The Motion Picture..

All power to your elbow with the cooking, Spiro. Hope the icecReAm behaves itself. I always used to make it without a machine, and it was smooth and delicious, as far as I rememeber. Not made it for ages though so I can't provide any useful tips.

DumSpiroSpero · 27/08/2011 15:22

I am finally all prepped. Just need to clear up, sort dining room and self out. All I will have to do this evening is pour boiling water on cous cous, and stir some herbs through it.

The pudding is shaping quite well, I must admit Smile, although I suspect it might be a bit on the overly sweet side.

Off to chuck everything in the dishwasher and have a well earned cuppa a lemon yum yum!

Btw re thrutching - it occurred to me that any word that sounds like a combination of thrusting and crotch can't be considered anything but naughty!

I'll save you the bother Maud Grin
