Morning Ladies (and I use the term loosely Wink...)

Great party last night (Mr Spiro thinks I'm completely bonkers for attending online parties...face...bovvered? Hmm).

Thanks for JP tribute, Maud - I will have to watch it later as my husband and offspring seem to have a sixth sense whenever I hit play on an RA vid at the moment...grrr!

On another note - I don't know how DH's friend named her dog, but I had to laugh when I saw her status update on FB this morning:

Sittin on my sofa with Mr.Giz laying around my neck, bless him he snoring loudly in my left ear lol Grin

PassTheTwiglets · 23/08/2011 07:34

Well DrTwigs and I have had a delightful night - I got about 3 hours sleep and he had about 20 minutes. And this morning the boiler is broken. And a million other things. I need a knight in shining armour to take me away from all this.

Oh, Maud, you must definitely ask dear Sylvester to join you in your celebrations - I recommend him both audibly and, um, bookily? I am halfway through both at the moment - 2nd-time for audiobook and first time for paperback. I've really enjoyed reading them at the same time as re-listening. You discover the little bits that were omitted in the audibook abridging and you hear how he reads particular lines that you've just read.

Give us a rough idea of your birthday and we will celebrate here too.

Look at this bit of pretty I just found

DumSpiroSpero · 23/08/2011 07:41

LOL at 'bit of pretty' yummy! Is it a still from 'Spooks'?

(Miss S is watching Scooby Doo at the moment - they keep taking about being spookified and spookification Grin)

Why so little sleep, Twigs? Sad I didn't have a great one and decamped to the spare room in the end, but it wasn't that bad.

PassTheTwiglets · 23/08/2011 07:41

Morning, Spiro. How are you today? How funny about that dog's name!

OMG, can't belive what I forgot to tell you. This is so childish and not the sort of thing I normally find funny but I was in hysterics at reading Sylvester a few nights ago. Now, bear in mind what I said just up there about The Man reading particular lines and tell me what you think of this. I haven't heard it used in this way before but it appears that the verb 'to mount' used to mean offering someone your horse. Well there is a whole paragraph where Sylvester says to Phoebe things like "Please allow me to mount you" or "you really should have let me mount you yesterday evening". ROFL! I don't recall those bits in the audiobook and I'm sure I would have remembered - what a crying shame they abridged those bits, eh? :o

PassTheTwiglets · 23/08/2011 07:46

DrT was awake partly because his knee is causing him problems and partly because DS has a cold and so was even more 'let me come into your bed, Daddy' than usual. But DrT was in DD's bed so he only had a single bed for both him and DS. And then DS was awake at 4.30am Shock My bad night was because DD wasn't well and came into my bed. it's going to be a long day. DD has her best friend coming round today but they get so crazy and exciteable together and the detritus in the aftermath is truly horrific. I've promised them a picnic in the garden (ie. please stay out of the house!) but it's supposed to be pouring down, sigh.

I don't what that pic is from - the URL or caption made it seem like a still from Spooks but I have no recollection of that one at all. I do like using 'pretty' as a noun, I have to say :)

What happened with your night?

PassTheTwiglets · 23/08/2011 07:53

Wow, I've just found the most amazing picture. A while back I was laughing at how awful some of the drawings you see on Google are but this one is incredibly good. For a minute I thought it was a screencap

DumSpiroSpero · 23/08/2011 08:36

I've come across that pic before - it's stunning.

And the photo - Spooks 7.6

Grin

Thank God they didn't include those horsey bits in the audio books. I can't think of a more apt situation in which to use the word conniption than listening to The Man read those lines!

We've got Miss Spiro's friend round today (with his mum - their birthday's are a week apart) - they will probably make a bit of mess as I've been saving boxes for a week so they can do junk modelling in the event of lousy weather, but they get on really well and we basically only see them at lunch time so that works pretty well and we get to chat (unless his big sister comes - really lovely girl but likes to be in on everything and at 14 it does limit the adult conversation somewhat.)

As for my night - just hot and restless (too much JP fantasising before lights out!), so went into the spare room, but there's something about the spare room I don't like so I didn't sleep brilliantly in there either and then Mr Spiro's alarm woke up both me and Miss S at 5.30am.

Could've been worse I suppose. Shame your DS isn't a bit older - Benylin Night Time for kids is brilliant but it's 6+.

LadyDamerel · 23/08/2011 08:53

I always think it's a real pity that the GH audiobooks are so heavily edited. There are so many bits that, while they don't affect the story by their absence, do add an extra level of humour and depth to it. Sylvester is particularly bad - the scene in Richmond Park with Georgiana, Ianthe and Fotherby is much longer and there's much more interaction between Fotherby and Sylvester which is very funny. However, I have discovered that if I listen to the audiobooks too much, I can hear him reading it all in my head as read the novel Grin.

Spiro and Twigs, I hope your days get a little better. I would say have an early night but Homes From Hell is on at 11:35pm and you know who narrates that, don't you......

LadyDamerel · 23/08/2011 08:54

Oh and amazing drawing. Some of the artwork is frankly terrible but that is just astounding in it's likeness.

LadyDamerel · 23/08/2011 09:04

While we're on the subject of audiobooks, have you heard this interview?

DumSpiroSpero · 23/08/2011 09:05

Morning Lady D. It's interesting you saying that about the editing of Sylvester. It's my least favourite of the three so perhaps that's why.

I always find it really strange when I remember that they weren't written by someone at the time. Having never studied history I'm in awe of anyone who can write historical literature having not been there iykwim?

Homes from Hell 11.35pm?

DumSpiroSpero · 23/08/2011 09:06

That interview is fabulous!

THUD!!!

LadyDamerel · 23/08/2011 09:22

Would you like to hear this one about TCM as well then, Spiro?

DumSpiroSpero · 23/08/2011 09:34

I would love to, but no chance at the moment with little ears listening and ready to interrupt at any given moment.

DumSpiroSpero · 23/08/2011 09:55

Just seen this Tweet:

The new Strikeback series on Sky 1 is pretty much a boys answer to The Real Housewives of Orange County.

ROFL Grin!!!

SupermassiveLBD · 23/08/2011 11:07

Morning, ladies. It seems we all had a pretty bad night last night - as opposed to having had a pretty bad knight , which would have been far from unwelcome.

Something triggered an allergy in SB major and he was coughing and sneezing and hacking all night. it happens now and then and we have no idea why.

Sorry to hear about DrTwigs's knee and all the other ailments. I am still shattered so have just spent a lazy morning ogling Gizzywatching DVDs

You just have to find out about that dog's name, Spiro. I hope at least it's something supremely macho, like a husky (blue eyes) or German shepherd (wolf) If it's something teacup-sized and fluffy I will die

PassTheTwiglets · 23/08/2011 11:25

Ta for the interview links, LadyD - I've never got round to listening to any of them (and still haven't listed to the long one that you posted) but loved the TCM one. So he hears a soundtrack in his head when he acts, does he? Hmm :) I've just read that Regent's Park scene you mentioned, LadyD! Loved it. Fotherby is fabulous. Pelham is still my favourite comedy character though.

Homes From Hell is too late for me but I may well have to rewatch in iPlayer.

How is SBMajor today, Massive? Poor love. Can he take antihistamines or do they not help anyway? I adored the pic of your pretty bad knight (or is there a comma missing - 'cos "prett, bad knight" works just as well!)

SupermassiveLBD · 23/08/2011 11:30

Loving the artwork, I forgot to say, especially the drawing. You feel you can reach out and touch those winsome curls at the back of his neck.

Talking of cutting out unfortunate phrases than can be interpretated otherwise in modern parlance, I noticed one that was left in, in Venetia though I expect he was too pure-hearted to notice as he doesn't seem to flinch when reading it.

Looking forward to listening to the interviews, thanks,Llady D for linking to them for us, but I simply have to crack on Sad

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 23/08/2011 11:34

SBMajor is fine, thanks Twigs. I think he got more sleep than I did. The a-hs seem to take an age to kick in with him, that's the trouble

OP posts:
PassTheTwiglets · 23/08/2011 11:45

What was the Venetia line, Massive? I have a vague memory of something amusing me but can't remember.

SupermassiveLBD · 23/08/2011 13:35

Way hay! New Panther chappie up! Smile

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/08/2011 13:35

I too half-remember that something made me think did I really just hear that? that'll appeal to those saucy minxes in the Academy, but I can't recall what it was.

PassTheTwiglets · 23/08/2011 13:39

Oh, Massive, a few stolen minutes with Panther is exactly what I need right now :)

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/08/2011 13:41

Oh and I had meant to say that that drawing is amazingly good, especially compared to some of the horrors that one sees, but it was so good that it made me wonder whether it was from one of those applications that are always being touted on facebook that transform photos into artworks.

::sceptical old baggage emoticon::

As ever, Massive is quite right about the curls which would surely feel lovely as one ran one's fingers through them.

SupermassiveLBD · 23/08/2011 13:56

You may be right about that FAF drawing, Maudie. I know someone who does that kind of thing. but am too chicken to ask her if she'll do a special one for me
