HAHAHAHA ONLY JOKING!!

TA-DA!!!! I'M FINALLY HERE after much moaning on Twitter and a lost application, Mumsnet have fast-tracked my application and I'm now officially a "Mumsnet Blogger". What have I let myself in for??

Some of you may already know me, in which case "Hi" - make yourselves known.
Some of you may never have heard of me, in which case "Hi" - where the frig have you been for the past two years?
Some of you may know me from a previous life where I had a different username, in which case "Hi" - and sssshhhh we don't talk about that any more.
Some of you may know me in real life, in which case "Hi" - isn't it time you rang me and we arranged a coffee date?
Some of you have probably clicked off by now and though "weirdo", in which case "Bye".

I have been described as Tigger, Quirky and The Queen of Rants. I blog at Typecast

Really, truly, honestly, there are a number of you in here who should be truly ashamed of this thread. Really, truly ashamed.

Seems like there are politics involved here which I have no understanding of (what is BMC?) but the attitudes displayed here are shameful.

The OP can be read in a number of different ways - and you all have a right to read it how you want. But the aggression (both passive and overt) with which you have engaged with Typecast is, I use the term again, shameful.

The bloggers/mumsnet link up was set up to being great writers to the attention of the mumsnet community. If certain of you continue to act in this spiteful and unpleasant manner, the blog network will be dead on arrival. Or maybe that is what you are hoping will happen?

As it happens, I have met Typecast. She is generous, brave, warm, funny, ironic, sarcastic, occasionally caustic and, yes, a little brash. All of which came through in the OP - and on her blog. And that what makes her interesting.

Please, embrace people's differences and personalities.

And don't humiliate yourselves with the kind of snarling unpleasantness you have displayed here - you embarrass the forum which you claim so vociferously to be defending...

Note - yes, I have just signed up, yes I came to this thread after hearing about it on twitter. No, I am not a friend of Typecast. No I don't have any need to defend her.

"Some of you may know me from a previous life where I had a different username, in which case "Hi" - and sssshhhh we don't talk about that any more."

I read this as referring to enough previous activity on MN to expect people to remember you - if you're under a new nickname, it looks like you assume people remember your writing style.

"I have been described as Tigger, Quirky and The Queen of Rants"

The implication here is that you have had three (or more) different usernames on here. I think it's a reasonable assumption to make that you're referring to the forum you're currently using, ie MumsNet. Otherwise you would surely have named the forum you were referring to.

Other forums I use have the same "unwritten rules" as this one. Attention whores and drama llamas get jumped on. Writing style must be legible to the majority. Spades are called spades and not human-earth mobility interfaces...

Just for the record, I'm done with this conversation. I usually just quietly hide and go on my merry way but this time I want to say one last thing.

Welcome to everyone who is new. MN is the best place on the 'net, IMHO. However, you do need to get to know a forum and it's feel and people before you burst in bragging about you, your blog, your children or what have you.

I love the bloggers network. I apparently misunderstood it's true purpose and that's too bad. But I will still blog and keep being a part of the network.

Talk to y'all on the forums.

Typecast, I'm not getting this. What is your usp? You seem like a relentless self publicist but your blog is lacking in interesting or original content.

"I have been described as..." doesn't include the words "on Mumsnet" but does include a link to my blog. I'd have presumed (although sadly mistaken) that those descriptions referred to my blog.

I'm not after a battle of wills - as I said earlier, the world is full of different people and makes it all the more interesting - but I'm utterly disappointed and saddened at the membership on here. I am no attention whore or drama llama (that's a new one on me) and spades maybe called spades but new members should NEVER be called cunts.

I'm hardly a self-publicist by keeping to one thread. What I do on my own twitter account or facebook page is for my followers - no-one demands that you follow or engage with me.

This is the "bloggers network" - somewhere for bloggers to obtain support, find new blogs and speak to other bloggers. If we can't talk about our blogs here, then where can we talk about them?

Truly - this is all so messed up.

Thank goodness this has fizzled out now. People need to get a grip and not take everything so seriously. And calling names, and claiming you have more talent than someone else, just because something they said annoyed you is, in my book the sign of a weak character who just wants to fight for the sake of it. Typecast has a sense of humour, take it as it was intended and get on with your day. And I am not a supporter, I don't know her, I'm just an outsider who has not spent much time on Mumsnet and came over to look because I was so shocked at this thread. I can't imagine wanting to spend much time here in the future on the basis of what I just experienced.

Wow.

You're a friendly bunch. Makes certain other forums look quite tame by comparison.

That is all.
Stands back and waits for abuse from random people I've never met and probably would never wish to meet, in a pub where someone walks in saying Ta Da, or anywhere else for that matter

I came here after reading a link on twitter, I "know" Tee and can say that she is not a bitchy person. She found (as others did) that the OP was patronising and attention seeking. She is within her rights to point out that this is not the way to gain friends on MN. Or readers.

Since you are obviously blackmouthing us on Twitter, and bringing your friends here then I for one am going to stand with Tee and Purple and say that your behaviour is not without blame.

We are all bloggers, some have been blogging for years, some are very new to blogging. I have been blogging for almost three years now but would not presume to tell anyone that I am here to help others with their blogs. We all offer advice and feedback if wished for, but your implication that you were the all knowing expert has understandably annoyed some posters.

As for MediocreMum, you and I have had a reasonably friendly discussion on Twitter some time ago about MN, but it has not passed me by that you occasionally blog or tweet about MN, linking to threads that you find "bitchy". If you are so disinterested in MN, why do you continue to come here and read the threads? Or are you only interested in MN-bashing?

20somethingmum
Do you really think that coming here and linking to your blog is the right thing to do?

And, yes, MN Bloggers Network is a place for bloggers to support each other, but I think that if you are going to join you should at least have a little look around the place and perhaps post on other topics instead of just promoting your blog,

Most of the MN bloggers are long term MNetters, and it is slightly annoying when new posters appear, link to their blog, patronise us and then get snippy when someone points out that this is not the way it is done here.

Sorry for the multiple postings. I wanted to add that if you want to see how it is normally done on MN, have a look at the thread to share our blogs where new bloggers generally start with something along the lines of, "Hello, may I join it, I am new to this..."

Typecast I lurk on here most of the time but know your blog well. I love your work! So pleased to see you here.

The lashing out at you on this thread just says so much. As in life, those who shout the loudest, know the least - ignore them and they go away.

Are you surprised that people don't stick around if this is what passes for a welcome? Really?

And yep, linked to my blog, thats the norm for forums usually, except, obviously, this one where if you be yourself and a bit jokey you get called a C U Next Tuesday.

And just to be truly annoying to the over-sensitive, here are some other links for you-

PMSL

Would add my Google Plus one, but I really hope it stays as friendly as it currently is.

Perhaps Mumsnet could be renamed to MumsNut? Then you could truly by MumsNutters, which is generally what you display yourselves as in this thread.

Its bad-mouthing by the way. I find Blackmouthing racist. Not because its meant to be racist, but just because I'm going to join in the spirit of Mumsnet and decide to take random, non-offensive stuff, as random offensive stuff. Just, you know, because.

20something- yes MN is not tame, and we like it that way, hence MN has posters who tend to stick around for a long time once they find it. The insipid forums are that way ====>

typecast- I find it hilarious that all these newbie posters are in fact your tweeples, who have come over to lend their support.

FWIW, people who have something interesting to say and/or a USP don't need to publicise it widely- people will find them by word of mouth.

If you had looked at MN before launching into a defence of twitter friend, you would see that it is not that way on MN. I only ever link to my blog on the blogger topic, and do not self-publicize on here. As most of the other bloggers do.

I don't use MN as a promotion tool for my blog. This is not Britmums. It is not a platform set up for bloggers, but a website for parents which has a bloggers network and topic.

I don't think there has really been as much "lashing out" on this thread as people are now insisting they've seen. To me it reads more like:

  1. OP posts in manner that slightly gets people's backs up

2. People respond in slightly irritable fashion
3. OP gets defensive, immediately begins referring to Spanish Inquisition & digging larger hole for self
4. People get arsey and say "cunt" a few times
5. Large crowd of outraged defenders of OP flood onto thread from I know not where and start telling all and sundry that MN is just awful

Hello Capt' Or should that be eye eye? Lol

Erm, actually, I wouldn't agree that I have something interesting to say. If you appear boring then I would assume your blog would be pretty dull too.

FWIW, I actually don't generally use forums, and, well, my blogs doing pretty darn well- awards etc, and not just recognition from my peers either. My stats are doing pretty OK on their own. I also tend to avoid forums due to, well, neurotic women with too much time on their hands taking their lack of confidence out on someone who has some. As displayed here.

I think Typecast's USP is that she is witty, funny and has a sense of humour. Something clearly lacking here.

I agree with what mme has said very nicely. But I would add;

When you rock up on a new forum which you are clearly not familiar, try not to sound like a gigantic arse on your first post.

Maybe spend some time reading the other threads and get a feel for the place first.

Question typecast: why is so important to get new people to read your blog? Particularly us on MN who you are so uninterested in that you don't read or post on this forum?

This is a a bit six of one, and half a dozen of the other.

So the OP was a little immodest, and yes it did make me cringe, but the reaction was a tad OTT, no?

I think there is blame on both sides of this story, and frankly the bitching on Twitter is more than a little ridiculous.

If you don't like Typecast's blog, simply don't read it or this thread, or her Twitter stream. There is more than one way to blog, and who is anyone to say that their way is best?

Vive la différence!

It's 'Aye, aye' if we're pointing out each other's spelling mistakes

I would love to know what awards you have won 20something! There is also a thread running on blog stats, so it would be great if you would contribute to that too, as it is something that concerns most bloggers! Grin

I think typecast has made a noob mistake of mis-reading her audience. She should stick to NM, which I understand she already works for, much more her style.

Not sure who you think on here has a lack of confidence though Confused

I wasn't pointing out a spelling mistake. I was deciding to take offence to something which wasn't offensive. Like everyone has done to Typecast.

Awards? Well, there's Mothercare "Best Blog Writer". Not voted for by mates of mine, as this year, but voted by the Gurgle/Mothercare team. Like Typecast I'm nominated as a Finalist in this years Mum And Dad blog most innovative category, and was a semi finalist last year. Shortlisted for a Cosmo Lifestyle award too.

As for stats- 7,000+ uniques per month. Read in the UK, Mainland Europe and the US.

Recommended by Bounty, Parentdish, Maclaren, Brabantia, and Family Vie.
Been in more than a few newspapers and Magazines.
Worked with some major brands too.

Anything else you'd like to know?
