Now, I'd accept the beard if it came with a uniform like that, Maud Grin.

Sorry I had to disappear so suddenly - I'd gone to 'bed' and was doing some sneaky studying Grin.

I have never seen any other fan sites - they didn't exist when I was at the peak of my crush on Joey from New Kids on the Block - but they're all full of loons, are they? Fair enough.

::feels quite glad she has no particular talents or any chance of fame::

I see the Academy more as a natter high brow discussion area with the bonus yummy illustrations Grin.

TheSmallPrint · 23/07/2011 08:36

Yes lady D, I agree, otherwise it's a very lazy form of fan stalking as I have no intention of hunting anyone down and sneaking behind them in a PSB manner.

Speaking of presents have you seen the book that someone has made? Blimey that's some effort!! I would just like to point out that I am still waiting for my birthday cake from you all - it's weeks late! Angry

OP posts:
DumSpiroSpero · 23/07/2011 09:15

Which book is that, Small?

I don't tend to go on the fan blogs unless something is flagged up here or on Twitter.

I must admit I saw something the other day and though that if I was of the hopelessly demented devoted persuasion it would make an ideal birthday pressie for the Man. Can't remember for the life of me what it was now though!

As for interviews and information contributing to the madness - I expect they probably do, but surely people must realise that what is imparted is only a tiny percentage of who he is in real life and you can't actually know someone based on that?

From what I've read I'd probably have quite a lot in common with the bloke, but I'm not about to set up camp outside United Agents, nor am I under any illusions that he probably has the potential to be as much of a pain in the butt as the next chap!

TheSmallPrint · 23/07/2011 10:11

I don't do fan blogs either but it was on one with the beardy Project photo I posted.

Morning all.

I agree with LadyDamerel about the raison d'être of this thread - I see it more as agreeable banter learned academic discourse with a lot of gratuitous swooning thrown in, with the odd excursion into comparative research. I think Spiro (who, after all, should know, being an ex-journo) is spot-on when she says too that one can never know anyone on the basis of what they choose to disclose (or, dare I say it, invent) during an interview. My only reading of the fan blogs has been when they've been linked to here or attached to a photo I've found through Googling rigorous research and some of them trouble me - such as the one where the women lists all the things that bond her to the Man and they're such common and basic things that, on her own argument, she should be bonded to half the planet.

What's bothering me at the moment is whether even a thread as (I hope)innocuous as this is adding to that lunatic atmosphere which makes stalking someone down the street and pouncing on them for an autograph seem like a reasonable thing to do.

TheSmallPrint · 23/07/2011 11:58

I see you are all studiously ignoring the cake issue. It won't go away you know.

Sorry, Small, can't find the gateau Armitage but how about some twiglets?

PassTheTwiglets · 23/07/2011 13:07

Here you go Small... incoming!

Does that mean our shared love of Opal Fruits doesn't qualify me as the Man's soul mate then, Maud? Sad

I really don't think this thread could be held responsible for any fan girl lunacy. We are pretty reasoned in our discussions and if you look back there are some days where the Man himself is barely mentioned.

Personally I just enjoy chatting to a bunch of women who have similar interests to me (books, film, art, theatre, music etc), as the majority of my RL friends, whilst fabulous, are not particularly culturally inclined.

The visual learning aids involved are just an added extra!

PassTheTwiglets · 23/07/2011 13:24

What she said

DumSpiroSpero · 23/07/2011 13:27

About Opal Fruits or lunacy, Twigs?

SupermassiveLBD · 23/07/2011 13:43

Funnily, I never cared much for Opal Fruits..Straight to the chocolate for me, no messing about.

DumSpiroSpero · 23/07/2011 13:49

It was my craving when I was pregnant with DD - anything fruity - Opal Fruits, fruit pastilles, wine gums, pure orange juice ice lollies and lots and lots of cheese (which I'd always been able to take or leave previously).

DD loves cheese, wine gums and orange juice! Fortunately she also eats virtually very vegetable going which is nothing short of a miracle as I couldn't bear the sight of them when I was pregnant - especially cooked veg.

SupermassiveLBD · 23/07/2011 13:51

A veg-eating child? That is seriously weird Grin

DumSpiroSpero · 23/07/2011 14:05

Strangely she's a bugger to get fruit down though. Apples (if sliced), satsumas, grapes and strawberries are about it.

SupermassiveLBD · 23/07/2011 14:11

Is she okay with juices? You could bamboozle her with fancy ''cocktails''

DumSpiroSpero · 23/07/2011 14:34

Even worse with those - she'll drink orange and apple juice but wouldn't touch a smoothie with a 10-foot pole!

She's not too bad really - and if all else fails she just gets salad with her dinner!

LadyDamerel · 23/07/2011 16:13

::continues to studiously ignore Small::

Fruitella was my sweet of choice in all 3 of my pgs. Can't go near them now!

About the lunacy, Spiro. What we have here is a world away from that, as far as I'm concerned.

There is another report of a meeting out fom the premiere and he comes across as SO nice in it. Do you want me to post it or would you rather not? Actually, I will post the link and then you can just click on it or not, as you see fit.

Oh dear, Maud - but LOL at your way of putting it!

I couldn't eat any choc or sweets when I was pg, boo hiss (gest. diabetes). That's why I put on so much weight after I had the babies - 'cos I thought "I can eat chocolate again!"

LadyDamerel · 23/07/2011 16:56

Don't panic, Maud, help is on its way

DumSpiroSpero · 23/07/2011 16:58

Here you go Wine Maud!

Thankfully party invites have been few & far between for us this year and the last 2 we've had we couldn't attend.

Bummer....not! Grin

DumSpiroSpero · 23/07/2011 16:59

Yay Massive - wine & twiglets!

SigmundFreudThePsychoanalyst · 23/07/2011 17:15
