I think the Vice Chancellor is wondering what has happened to his formerly lovely office. Not sure the bare rock look is working for him. A certain lack of refinement in the ambience.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/07/2011 21:11

If you recall, LadyDamerel, the vice-chancellor's office is somewhat spartan. Your last pic is of the love nest I share with him his imposing and well-appointed home.

TheSmallPrint · 18/07/2011 21:12

You're not wrong Maud

OP posts:
LadyDamerel · 18/07/2011 21:14

I don't remember that scene and I've watched episode 4 a bout 30 times couple of times. When is it?

It does explain my confusion re office/home though.

::tries to think of valid reason as to why she may have seen MrT's personal areas::

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/07/2011 21:19

Oh crikey, LadyDamerel. I don't know. For me, North and South is one luscious whole which I watch in a trance and I can't separate the scenes. I would guess, though, that that is when my dear fiancé Mr Thornton is working round the clock to prevent the business failing. The poor lamb is exhausted by it.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/07/2011 21:25

By the way, Small, that is not one of my darling John's cravats, which come only in black, red and cream, although the cravat is optional.

SupermassiveLBD · 18/07/2011 21:36

Hail Ladies of Mumsnet!
I'm liking the new building, very back to basics. And caves are cooler when it's not.

LOL@ the sugarpaste work. When you have done Lucas and JP, can you do Gizzy? In a manner of speaking...Grin

Don't expect to get much sense out of me tonight (yes, I know you rarely do) but I have been Sore Beset all afternoon, and need to recuperate.

And Spiro, thanks for the CA interview pics, one of them was the exact one that hit the spot Blush

SupermassiveLBD · 18/07/2011 21:37

Hot, not not
Told you I needed to recuperate...

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/07/2011 21:41

::proffers Polish cordial and twiglets::

SupermassiveLBD · 18/07/2011 21:46

Vae victis.

Thanks, Maudie. Mighty neighbourly of you, as they say in the cowboy films.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/07/2011 21:49

You're welcome, my dear. But now I must away.

Toodle-pip, one and all!

TheSmallPrint · 18/07/2011 21:52

Early night for you Maud?

Evening Massive, busy old day hey?

OP posts:
LadyDamerel · 18/07/2011 21:53

Careful research shows that clip is about 19 minutes in to Ep. 4, immediately before he starts talking to Higgins'/Boucher's son.

As a completely irrelevant aside, I LOVE the way the relationship between Thornton and Higgins grows in this episode. Almost as much as I love the Margaret/Thornton dynamics.

SupermassiveLBD · 18/07/2011 21:54

I say, you wouldn't lend me Aunt Agatha's ostrich feathers tonight, would you, as you are Retiring Early

SupermassiveLBD · 18/07/2011 21:57

Hello, Small. Busy doesn't cover it

I love those bits too, Lady D ''I'll leave my brains at home then..''

Brendan Coyle is magificent in it.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/07/2011 22:02

::Looks back at you::

::Instantaneously teleports Great Aunt Agatha's ostrich feather fan to the tropical island::

LadyDamerel - You are a researcher par excellence. I too find the relationship between Messires Thornton and Higgins very compelling and think we see Mr Thornton at his best when he takes an interest in the Boucher children and his . A pretty radical girl, Mrs Gaskell.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/07/2011 22:04

Aha. Crossed posts with Massive.

Yes, early night for me, Small. I have various maladies and sleep is a good curative.

::rummages under chaise longoo for the FWNS::

DumSpiroSpero · 18/07/2011 22:09

Evening Ladies! Anyone still about?

Glad the pic bought you some light relief Massive!

TheSmallPrint · 18/07/2011 22:11

Night Maudie, hope you feel better tomorrow.

I agree, Brendan Coyle is excellent in N&S and the relationship builds beautifully.

I'm here, Spiro. Just finished the cakes - not the way I planned to spend my first free evening! And I really ought to go to bed as will be up at silly o'clock. But I have a delicious glass of red that will take at least another 10 minutes :)

SupermassiveLBD · 18/07/2011 22:12

I'm still here, palpitating, Spiro, if not for the usual reasons. Thanks again for the pic, did you see what I meant?

I did note the taxi too, as an aside.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 18/07/2011 22:14
LadyDamerel · 18/07/2011 22:18

I am nearly as fond of Higgins as I am of MrT, albeit in a slightly different way Wink. The interweaving of the characters and their relationships is what makes the book for me and I love how well the whole production manages to show it in all its layers. It's almost too subtle to have worked well on TV but it does and it is amazing, no matter how many times you watch it. In fact it probably gets better each time because you pick up on more and more nuances.

I'm feeling all fuzzy and warm after watching that episode so I think I'll away to my lovely empty bed with my trusty heated blanket and dream a little dream of [MrT].

Night.

PassTheTwiglets · 18/07/2011 22:19

and dream a little dream of [MrT]

I pity da fool.

SupermassiveLBD · 18/07/2011 22:22

Nighty night Lady D. It is a great book -- I love Mary Barton, too - and a great series, and I would love to get more TV time so I could watch it again myself.
