Anyone?

I will start off with a link to my latest post, a part of the story of Beth (formerly known as Dora) who moved to Geneva to escape a relationship turned sour.

This is NOT me, by the way. I have drawn on my knowledge of Geneva but it is not an autobiograpy :)

Vera just took a peek at your wonderful blog. My son went through a detailed testing process for deafness shortly after birth - there is congenital deafness on my husband's side of the family and my little boy did not pass the newborn hearing tests or the second set of tests he had after being referred.

After about five months he passed the more detailed tests and the initial issues were put down to congestion (he had bronchiolitis for about four months). So, we are keeping our fingers crossed.

I was interested to hear from one of the testing co-ordinaters that, since starting newborn testing in the UK, it has been discovered that there is a group of children in which deafness starts in toddlerhood rather than from birth. I wondered if the doctors have confirmed that Bella's deafness was definitely from birth? I hope you get at least some of the answers you need when you see the doctor today.

Just in case you missed it, here is a link to the GO thread

I do happen to know an expert in Land Law...it has been a while since I have been in touch with her but I will see if I can find a way.

Hi breadfortheboys. Yeah I think know the type of deafness, have a met some teenage boys who's deafness started at 5 and 7. Because of the way she behaves and the things that were noticed when she was a baby, audiologist believes dd was born deaf, and for a number of reasons including the type of deafness she has and possible ANSD which audiology think is why she slipped through the net and ended up as one of the 5% that the newborn screening fails to detect. Must blog about that one day. :o

MmeLindor. · 31/08/2011 19:09

That is interesting, Vera.

I know 2 children whose hearing problems were not picked up until they were 3 or 4 years old, and I always wondered how it happened.

Have updated blog with my rather long whinge about how she "passed" look here if you have. Spare half an hour. :o

ShirleyKnot · 31/08/2011 21:46

I've been a bit low quiet round these parts lately. Found it difficult to write anything I feel even slightly willing to publish!

latest post about CAKE

Have retweeted GO's blog tonight though and had a retweet. Tempted to direct a few tweets at some "names" but don't want to overstep any boundaries and cause a Rivenesque explosion of unhelpful publicity.

DillyTante · 31/08/2011 22:04

Hi all, sorry been off camping and at work but off tomorrow with only child no.2 so will hopefully get to catch up. I've been out stealth-like tonight.

Well done MmeLindor btw on the campaign for GO. I don't do FB or Twitter but will try and help in any way I can.

Cheria · 01/09/2011 08:23

Morning all. Here is today's offering about my personal campaign to get people donating blood. I explain why it is the best thing you could do here

MmeGuillotine · 01/09/2011 13:20

This morning I am trying to gently chivvy my readers into reviewing my sodding books.

Voila.

TrillianAstra · 01/09/2011 13:31

Just bought your book MmeG!

TrillianAstra · 01/09/2011 13:32

Sorry, your sodding book.

MmeGuillotine · 01/09/2011 13:42

Aw, thank you very much! I start off in love with my books and all full of enthusiasm for writing them but by the time they come out they are very definitely SODDING BOOKS.

Hope you enjoy the bloody thing. ;) x

Cheria · 01/09/2011 13:54

I just bought it too - will leave a review once read.

Cheria · 01/09/2011 14:19

I mean I bought the Diary of a Princess book.

MmeGuillotine · 01/09/2011 14:28

Oh crikey, thank you! Hope you like it! :)

Cheria · 01/09/2011 14:45

Would you be willing to donate some blood in exchange?

MmeGuillotine · 01/09/2011 14:48

I'm extremely needle phobic and also prone to anaemia but my husband regularly donates blood to make up for me being rubbish!

Cheria · 01/09/2011 14:53

Well if you're anaemic they probably won't want your blood anyway. Good on your husband though.

MmeGuillotine · 01/09/2011 15:12

Yes, I didn't think they'd want mine. I've never tried tbh but assumed that as a pasty faced redheaded vegan who lives on the permanent brink of collapse, I probably need to hang on to my blood supply! ;)

DirtyMartini · 01/09/2011 17:45

Howdy, all.

Have not been doing much MNing the past day or two, and have head down most of today in awful version control nightmare for the medical book I am helping on (not actually editing but ... helping sort stuff out).

But I took a little while to do this post last night after the Larry Lamb episode of Who Do You Think You Are, and to my surprise it has been my most-viewed day on the blog ever, by a looooong shot.

Far more than after, say, the JK Rowling episode or the June Brown one. And far more than anything else I have ever posted about, too [mixed feelings emoticon] Grin I am beginning to realize the value of topical posting; too bad my blog topic doesn't usually lend itself to anything topical...

People obviously enjoyed the episode a lot and were Googling like mad about it today - the hits are just evidence of what a good programme it was, I think. Anyway I'm glad I took the time to do the post and spend some Scotland's People credits on his mum's birth certificate.

DistinctSingleParent · 01/09/2011 21:12

hi everyone...I'm a twenty something old single mum from London, diverse background, my life is quite crazy...I think I'm quite different to any other bloggers out there but I also think I'm quite relatable...check me out xx

TrillianAstra · 01/09/2011 21:14

Today's post which is really just an excuse to link you to a cartoon that I like :)

I hope I enjoy the bleeding book too -currently reading Girl with Dragon Tattoo so will have to finish that first but wanted to buy yours while I remembered how to find it (searching for MmeGuillotine on Amazon doesn't work, does it?)

DirtyMartini · 01/09/2011 21:35

wastes time on The Oatmeal

Painfully accurate cartoon.
