No, Small, I haven't been using the Hubble telescope zoom factor, but possibly the most useful thing I learnt from one of my sculpture tutors was how to observe things and really see them, which means I'm doomed to a life of noticing tiny details such as my wrinkles, although they are no longer tiny.

Am snorting with laughter at your list of, ahem, evidence. I have no such list, because I only want to be with Mr Thornton, in which case the dissimilarities are more of an issue

  1. One fictional (work of Mrs Gaskell), one real (although possibly only a series of marks on a screen)
  2. One immortal (thanks to Mrs Gaskell), one showing signs of age

I thought I might spend the night evening with The Drover, but the telly has just gone on the blink again but at least it meant we didn't have to watch Man Utd v Arsenal.

Has anyone opened the Wine yet?

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 21:07

I don't have stubble but I do have a rogue whisker. Does that count?

They've come to escort you to the clinic, Small

TheSmallPrint · 12/03/2011 21:11

Maud, I think we may apply the rule 'opposites attract' in your scenario then, so all is not lost with regard to your 180 yo old mill owner. Grin

It's a shame about the tele (although I agree about thr footie), Im sure he will wait for you.

TheSmallPrint · 12/03/2011 21:12

I'd go willingly with that doctor!

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 21:13

Now there is an idea for a money-making invention we can flog on the next sereis of Dragon's Den A little gizmo the shape of a sonic screwdriver that will make tellys go on the blink any time there is danger of footie.

OP posts:
TheSmallPrint · 12/03/2011 21:17

I'd buy one for sure Masssive.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 21:24

One of these days, I'm going to have to re-read the book, to refine my calculations of Mr Thornton's age. I'd assumed that he is about 35 because he talks of half his life being gone - and I imagined that Mrs Gaskell and he were thinking of the biblical three score years and ten - but in the teacup scene he says he was removed from school 16 years ago after his father's suicide. So he may be a little younger than I at first thought, which is some ways increases the age gap and in some ways reduce it.

::resolves to stop thinking about this::

I imagine Massive, that the Telly-Zapping Footie-Disabling Device would sell well on the island, where footie is such a huge part of the telly output. Or are island ladies equally devoted to the sport?

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 21:33

Island ladies are completely devoted to not watching footie on the telly, Maud but they are usually cruelly overruled.

Hmm, wonder how old my Gizzy is. Old enough, anyway.

::collapses on the floor in a deep swoon::

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 21:37

Aha. So we can sell millions of the TZFDDs to island ladies, then.

TheSmallPrint · 12/03/2011 21:38

Changing the subject randomly, I bought a jacket today and when I showed Mr Small he said I looked like Ros ( like this ) not sure if that's a compliment Hmm.

TheSmallPrint · 12/03/2011 21:39

try again

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 21:42

In what way do you look like Ros?

::boggles at sight of Rose in a negligee, as had thought a flak jacket was more her kick-ass style::

Can you do a linkie to the jacket?

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 21:43

Oooh, lovely, Maud, can I swoon next to you?
Even the comments on this vid were printable.

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 21:47

Nice negligee that, Maud, don't you think. and a chaise longue aussi? A shame Lucas didn't get an eyeful of that.

OP posts:
TheSmallPrint · 12/03/2011 21:48

I can't open your link Maud, what are you talking about Confused

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 21:52

This perhaps?

OP posts:
PassTheTwiglets · 12/03/2011 21:53

Oh dear, please don't mention Wine, Maud! :)

Small, I did LOL at your both have stubble comment! We love that Wannadies track too and had that one as part of the soundtrack to our wedding video!

Massive, well spotted on the little wolfies - how cute! But I just had a horrid thought about that phboto - he looks like he has a... I can barely bring myself to say it... a mullet Shock

I need to go to bed now but am nervous of repeating last night's dReAm. Haven't been able to let it go today and am becoming serious JS obsessive again - but I need to get my head back to normal now.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 21:54

By all means, Massive.

::Clears a space on the Aubusson::

My links, Small, were to the bit in N&S where Mr Thornton tells his mater that he knows he is not worthy of Margaret and she has rejected him, and then a picture of him looking very masterful ::quiver:: in the yard.

Massive - I never read the comments on the vid as I did once and had to look up what some of the words meant.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 21:56

But the negligee pic - or perhaps it is a bias-cut satin evening dress in best Noel Coward style - came from Small's link.

::Brain explodes::

another mullet

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 22:03

Mullet? I think it was just the way he'd been brushing it back out of his eyes, as the pain throbbed in his poor temples.

OP posts:
TheSmallPrint · 12/03/2011 22:14

Hey? I am really confused now.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 22:17

Come on, Small, show us the jacket!
