Oooooh ::quiver:: Thank you, Spiro. I watched that vid to Songbird, as I already had it playing, and it worked really well. Rumours provided the soundtrack to much of my yoof and I still love it - did anyone see the documentary about Lindsay Buckingham recently? I had never heard of the Wannadies ::hopeless old duffer emeoticon::

I find it very sexy atmospheric.
DumSpiroSpero · 12/03/2011 19:14

Thanks Massive.

Tbh I think that with John it's partly that he's quite clueless with women, but whereas a lot of guys would go in like a bull in a china shop he hasn't got the whole macho thing going on or the confidence. I have kind of imagined a backstory for him which is helping to develop both the character and the story, I hope. I think he wants more than anything to have a real family of his own, and now he has a chance of that with Carol, however slim, he will do anything to not destroy it.

I also watched some more Sparkhouse clips on YT the other day, one of which was from Carol's perspective, which brought home to me that actually John is the only man who has really deserved her trust. She didn't trust Andrew enough to tell him about Lisa until she was forced to and even he betrayed her (more than once). She doesn't quite realise it yet, but she has something with John that she has never had with anyone else.

I'll shut up now - can you tell I'm enjoying writing 'Sparky's' a bit too much? Grin

That was new to me Maud - one of the comments likened it to updated Leonard Cohen and I see what they mean!

What did you think of the feather hat? You could wear it and fan yourself, hands free.

How are things with you and yours? Better I hope.

Clueless perhaps, Spiro, but willing to admit that he's clueless and try and understand. That is sensitive enough for me! As opposed to guys who are clueless but thinks they know it all!

::Waves at Massive::

Girl still has the mystery lurgy and still has to be wrestled to the ground several times a day to have eye drops. She also has to have medicine from a spoon. She has Strong Views on that too.

::sigh::

Aren't you supposed to be partying, Spiro?

DumSpiroSpero · 12/03/2011 19:31

Have friend coming round in half an hour - you trying to get rid of me Maud?

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 19:41

Poor GG, perhaps she should have some of this anyway to cheer her up Mummy can share of course.

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 19:44

Oh, and going back to the question of why so much of the literature of lurve is written by men, I think the answer is some combination of (a) much of the famous stuff was written at a time when women writers stood almost no chance of being published, thus giving men a dominance in the field that they probably didn't deserve and wouldn't have received if women had been participating on equal terms, (b) these men were not necessarily typical of their peers and (c) even the men who write so persuasively about love may turn out to be insensitive lunks at home.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 19:50

I'm not trying to get rid of you, Spiro, simply worrying that you might be doing a little too much multi-tasking!

Alas, Girl is completely beyond reason when it comes to doctors and medicine. She can't explain what it is that bothers or worries her. The consultation with the doctor this week was, at least, better than the one a few years ago, when she hid under the chair and refused to come out. Tying her to a tree is about the only thing we haven't tried.

That does look appetising, Massive, but this is probably my favourite (c)hunk of Thornton's.

::swoon::

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 19:51

c)even the men who write so persuasively about love may turn out to be insensitive lunks at home.

So ''Can't be arsed'' was about right, then. Sigh!

Never mind, we can always make our own men up Grin

Stepford Husbands, anybody? Wink

Toothsome, did you say?

::wibbles a bit at the sinewy thumb and the little scar under the chin::

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 20:05

Hi ho Silver

DumSpiroSpero · 12/03/2011 20:08

Wish I was 'Silver' Wink

And on that note I bid you ttfn!

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 20:09

By jove, Maud, are you working with an electron microscope here, or do I need new pince nez?

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 20:11

TTFN to you Spiro, too, but I would rather be Richie, me...

No talking, just looking, watching your glove action

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 12/03/2011 20:12

Eh?

::adjusts lorgnette::

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 20:17

Poor Gizzy, Maud he looks as if he's given himself a migraine with all the ranting and raving he does.
I think I'd better hurry him off into a dark place to lie down.

I am loving the little wolfies on his gloves, they are really cute.

....... hurry him off into a dark place to lie down .........

Oh, that old excuse, eh? You strumpet.

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 20:26

Well, Maud, Gizzy has an even older excuse ready and waiting. He has a headache. Sad

I have to say Maud I had to really look to see that scar . I must add that to my list if things in common with RA which surely means we are destined to be together

  1. Same age
  2. Both tall
  3. Both lived in Brum at the same time.
  4. Both moved back to London at same time.
  5. Both have blue eyes
  6. Both like Black Eyed Peas
  7. Both have a scar on chin.
8. Both have stubble

I'm sure there are many more things I could make up list but I think you'll agree it's pretty compelling eveidence. Grin

TheSmallPrint · 12/03/2011 20:41

Maud, sorryto hear GG is still not right. I have no helpful hints I'm afraid so will just send healing vibes .

Btw have you watched Australia yet?

SupermassiveLBD · 12/03/2011 20:53

Small, that list of yours is indeed uncanny. A shame about the stubble though, that rather spoils it.

My screen is so bad I can't see the scar. That is why I was banging on about microscopes.
