Just in case we need new premises tonight... :)

Boys are just as bad but their collections can sometimes be a little more organic. And yucky!

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 30/01/2011 16:34

::Hobbles in, still rubbing her aching feet::

Personally, I like a finely-placed nick-nack, although (of course) I own none myself but have only exquisite objects d'art. William Morris perhaps put it best:

Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/01/2011 16:43

Here is an objet d'art encased in another. If you go for the art deco rocket-shaped cocktail shaker type artifact.

I know we have seen this pic before but this example of it seemed much clearer to me.

Talking of art, it's almost time to pack up the Michelangelo again.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 30/01/2011 16:55

AS we discussed when we were planning the Academy Odeon viewing lounge, I love all things art deco. And, actually, all things cocktail.

Would you like a last glimpse of the Michelangelo before it goes back in its packing crate?

PassTheTwiglets · 30/01/2011 17:15

LOL at your objet d'art, Theresa :)

Techno, I love that quote - had no idea it was William Morris, so thank you for that info! I don't do art deco myself - I don't like the clean lines (though, conversely, I do like Shaker style). I also love me a bit of gothic.

And whilst we're on the subject of aesthetically beautiful things that please us...

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/01/2011 17:41

Ah, sigh! All that pulchritude is almost too much...

How are Techno?

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 30/01/2011 17:45

I've had a look at Twitter - and tried to follow the conversations... You mean LG is one of the protagonists? And TLN the other?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 30/01/2011 18:06

Surely William Morris would approve on both scores - both beautiful and useful.

Thank you for asking Theresa, but the feet are agony. Gives new meaning to the phrase bop till you drop.

PassTheTwiglets · 30/01/2011 18:08

I think LG is one of them but don't know who TLN is... ? I think BS is the other one. Somebody said "two people are arguing over another person" - so I imagined it was 2 women fighting over either Lucas or Porter, but I don't know which. Porter apologised to Lucas for causing trouble, I think? Very confusing.

OP posts:
PassTheTwiglets · 30/01/2011 18:10

TLN - doh, what an idiot, of course I know who that is :)

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/01/2011 18:20

Sorry to hear about the feet, Techno. Did you wear your party shoes and regret it?

Now you'll have to restrict yourself to the horizontal tango on your next tryst with a certain TDHMO.

I wonder what the name would be for Twitter Wars, Twigs, eh?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 30/01/2011 18:20

::Finds all this Twitter talk incomprehensible and wonders whether this spat is actually a tiff between Kevin and Perry, whose Runcorn base has been riven asunder by jealousy and rivalry::

Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/01/2011 18:21

Sorry, that should have been TDHCMO

Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/01/2011 18:29

Couldn't help noting the coster-monger, Techno. Wink

That was lovely though. Linguam latinem amo.
And did you notice the Voice saying the name at the end?

How about this, then?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 30/01/2011 18:30

Lordy, Theresa, I dare say you wear shoes like that every day in Limpopoland, but I prefer something a little more comfortable. And as for the suggestion of the horizontal tango - I would have you know that our connection is profound and spiritual, inspired by a mutual interest in the improvement of the condition of the working class and ratafia biscuits.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 30/01/2011 18:35

Yes, it's a lovely vid and worth sticking with to the very end.

How perfect, a combination of dear Claude and dear Emily. Have I posted this before? It's by Wendy Cope.

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 30/01/2011 18:39

I don't know who BS is? However I'm sure it will all blow over - it's only Twitter, not RL after all. They've had spats before, although it seems that TLN has now blocked her...

Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/01/2011 18:58

TBH such shoes as the sparkly heels are hardly de rigeur for daily life in the jungle, Techno, yours are much more serviceable and bright enough to dazzle the termites into giving them a wide berth.
But I do like a nice unserviceable bit of cordwainery

I do see Wendy's POV re Emily. When does style become obtrusive? Her punctuation seems a bit eccentric, indeed. I feel the same about e.e. cummings.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 30/01/2011 19:05

Likewise, I see your point about e e cummings. But even so ...

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

I like William Carlos Williams too. And we know who's read one of his poems, don't we?

Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/01/2011 19:13

Lovely poem. but it would have been easier to read with punctuation-- by that I mean the poet's intended meaning would be clearer. Or maybe I'm just fick. I suspect it might be the latter, I was always the last to 'get' things in lit crit...

That interview that Twigs linked to this afternoon was far too nice you know. I can't deal with intelligent and thoughtful. Nooooo! I don't wanna knooooow....

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 30/01/2011 19:37

Yes, I wonder whether the theory is that without extraneous things like punctuation, one has to concentrate on the words and so on the meaning, but for me the opposite is the case, because without the punctuation it's so hard to see the structure of the writing and hence it loses some impact.

I'm just listening to Twiggy's interview. I'm intrigued that he makes a point about how long it is (at that time) since he's been on stage. I wonder whether he subscribes to the view that stage acting is Proper Acting and everything else is slightly inferior? Anyway, .

Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/01/2011 19:55

Ohh the Beach Boys!

That song is almost rudely apt, I think the Academy should do a cover version for YT.

Many TV and movie actors seem to yearn after stage acting, don't they? Maybe they feel it's a more complete expression of their art, in that they get to use both body and voice to the max, as the Man said, and there is the direct communication with the audience too, that they speak of as so rewarding.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 30/01/2011 20:11

I am (obviously) very interested in this hierarchy of acting, with stage acting at the top and (what? commercials?) at the bottom. I can see that stage acting may well call for a more complete command of all aspects of the craft - especially as the performance has to be sustained night after night and any shortcomings can't be edited out - but I still wonder how to reconcile this with the fact that the audience for theatre is comparatively small and well-heeled and film and TV reach so many more people. But I'm sure you are right that many actors want to earn their proverbial spurs by appearing on stage.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 30/01/2011 20:21

Maybe if stage acting is where you have received your training, it has a special place in your heart. I am trying to think of an analogy.. I always love to go back to the town where I was at uni, f'rinstance. That's as near as I can get to it .... I am sure you can find a better one.

But of course not all actors are stage trained.

Someone needs to do an exhaustive piece of investigative journalism here, and grill lots of actors on the subject.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 30/01/2011 20:30

::dusts off notebook and mini tape-recorder::

Unfortunately, I gather that one of the most famous of our local thesps is away at the moment. Ahem.
