I'm fine just wondered where everyone went Confused. Had to switch to phone as laptop died and couldn't be arsed to get the lead!

Theresaholeinyourmind · 23/01/2011 21:52

Night MrsLN, now what sort of a lurgy is that you've just linked to? [gtin]

Theresaholeinyourmind · 23/01/2011 21:53

Looks like there's no one here but us chickens, Small!

TheSmallPrint · 23/01/2011 21:57

I hope Mrs LN hasn't coughed on the thread, I don't want any lurgies thanks! Wink

will have a peek tomorrow T Nd let you know how Shock I am. Hee hee!

Theresaholeinyourmind · 23/01/2011 22:03

You wouldn't mind that lurgy MrsLN linked to, though!

I shall look forward to your literary review

TheSmallPrint · 23/01/2011 22:04

I think I shall retire also as match of the day is now on!!

See you in the morrow, hope everyone feels better.

TheSmallPrint · 24/01/2011 09:45

Morning!!

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 24/01/2011 09:57

Hi de hi! Have a mildly slightly not particularly funny story for you. Who do you think I found in my boo-dwarr last night when I went up to bed?

::dramatic pause::

Only

::drum roll::

Thorin Oakenshield. OK, it was MrTechno reading That Book to MissTechno, but it gave me quite a start, nonetheless.

Would you like a Chelsea bun to go with the tea?

PassTheTwiglets · 24/01/2011 10:03

Morning Small! How's tricks? Glad you enjoyed The King's Peaches, sounds like it was a fab evening, especially the lie-in the following morning! We are due to see it on Wed, germs-depending.

Both kids in school now and WOW but it's quiet here :) Bliss!

How are you feeling today, MrsLN? That was a very pleasant "night night" you wished us.

How's the TV, Techno? Still kaput? Oh, you mentioned me being a domestic goddess 'cos of the bird cake - no, it's just that bird cake is the best thing for small children to make so they feel like they've done cooking but! They just pour, mix and squidge and it's stress-fre for Mummy (well, aside from the detritus).

Theresa, yes it was me who made the chocolate cake - it was far too dry though (I guess at a recipe) and most of it went in the bird cake, to be squidged up with Trex :)

Have a good day, all!

How funny about Thorin, Techno! I started reading North & South last night and DD saw it on my bedside table this morning, rolled her eyes and exclaimed "oh no, not again..." :)

OP posts:
LaVieEnTechnicolor · 24/01/2011 10:15

What lucky birds - chocolate flavoured bird cake!

TV is still kaput, so no chance of a dvd as I tackle the ironing. I was hoping to watch the Impressionists, inspired by my artistic endeavours yesterday.

Daughters are very droll in response to their mothers', ahem, interests I find. I did say to mine "you know who'll be playing Thorin in the film, don't you?" to which she snorted in disgust and asked how she was supposed to believe that such a tall man could convincingly play a dwarf. Which is quite perceptive, I think.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 24/01/2011 10:24

Just wait until they're older, Small!

TheSmallPrint · 24/01/2011 10:27

Do you think they will understand women then Techno?? Wink

No, I am hoping that RA will be old and ugly and that my hormones will have disappeared, leaving me unmoved by any young whippersnappers.

TheSmallPrint · 24/01/2011 10:28

by the time they grow up I mean!

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 24/01/2011 10:40

Oh, I was thinking along a different track, about the time (if it comes) when the house is knee deep in football boots and Nirvana cds! I sometimes wonder about how different or not things would be if MissTechno had turned out to be MasterTechno. I am sure the Small Boys will grow up to be lovely young men who will understand women. The question is how well do you want them to understand your own foibles?

::Wonders when Ebay will start to sell Armitage pension book covers for his maturing fans::

TheSmallPrint · 24/01/2011 10:44

Oh I see , house is already knee deep in footie boots. Boys are very into Muse at the moment - DH came home on Friday to them both sat on my lap watching Supermassive Black Hole live at Wembley - their request!!

I think you may have stumbled onto a new marketing plan there Techno..

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 24/01/2011 10:53

Well, I don't quite need one yet but there's no harm in planning further extensions to our range of tasteful, top quality Armitigiana merchandising. And, if nothing else, I am grateful (indirectly) to The Man and (directly) to this thread and its YT links for introducing me to Muse.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 24/01/2011 11:57

If we're quoting Muse, no prizes for guessing who sets my soul alight, then!

As usual I expect I've missed everybody but I had the house to myself AT LAST so of course I shoved a DVD on PDQ. RH1.5, Turk Flu
In this Guy is relatively well behaved, only skewers a peasant or two.

But the blue eyes were so much in evidence, which is unusual for RH. And there is one little shy smile when he has invited Marion to the fair that would fair melt your heart, if you didn't know how bad he is, especially as he was so shy and clumsy working himself up to ask her.

Sorry, but I am going to have to here, I just can't help myself.

So sorry to hear of the demise of your telly, Techno. The loss of boradcast programs is just about bearable, I guess, but no DVDs? That surely counts as torture.

In other news I succumbed to my fashionista side and bought Harpers mag the other day. Now I come to look at it , it was a good buy as there is a nice article about Colin Firth in it, and some rather scrummy pics.

Also an article where they ask various bods to try to answer the question "what turns you on?"

Which I could answer in two words but the question of why it's those two words is a little more difficult. I guess I shall be trying to work that out till I need that pension book cover with them on.

PassTheTwiglets · 24/01/2011 12:14

Oh Theresa, I saw that smile yesterday!! I think it's the bit when he murmurs "my lady..." - adorable!

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 24/01/2011 12:16

Re kids and their mother's interests, maybe boys would be less observant than girls. I just hope I never find out. Still rigged for silent running, me. Looking back on my own childhood and teenage years, I couldn't have even imagined my mum having, ahem unworthy thoughts about gentlemen, like wot I have nowadsys. TBH I still can't! How mad is that?

Techno, you can tell your offspring that six foot two inch dwarfs are a mere bagatelle for Peter Jackson, they had one that was six foot four in LOTR

Twiggy, re dry choccy cake, instead of giving it to the birds, you could have pricked it all over with a skewer and soaked it in Bailey's...

Theresaholeinyourmind · 24/01/2011 12:18

Yes Twiggy it was that bit! I just wanted to jump into the screen and cuddle him!

Theresaholeinyourmind · 24/01/2011 12:27

Woo hoo! RH3 just delived to my door. and no one around to see and ask what it was!

Back to RH1.5, I couldn't help remembering RA saying how he wanted to play Guy as a robot. Yeah, right! I guess he doesn't even know when he's doing it Smile He just can't help it, can he?

PassTheTwiglets · 24/01/2011 13:39

I am very glad you didn't tell me about the Bailey's thing before, Theresa, or I'd be about 6 bajillion calories worse off! It sounds amazing.

That scene really got me - it was so touching.

Where did you read (or see?) about RA playing him as a robot? I meant to ask you that last time you mentioned it. Have you listened to any of the commentaries? RA is on one of them but not sure about the rest.

The dwarf in LOTR was the tallest member of the cast!

OP posts:
Theresaholeinyourmind · 24/01/2011 14:05

Where did I see or hear RA talk about the robot thing? I can't truly remember, but thinking about what I have been looking at recently --someone was asking about the pronunciation of 'Gisborne' so I said why don't you listen to RA say it in one of the BBC America interviews that are on YT. So I think it was there. He also mentions the fact that he wears gloves all the time so you don't see his hands.

I haven't had the chance to listen to any of the commentaries yet but did manage to look at Hood Academy.Headspace time is even more limited than usual as MrH is working from home these days.

Re the the cake, another thing you could have done was turn it into tiramisu. Even more calories, but if you can't have Guy, why not eat cake?
