Well, that's not the book I found, by any means, Techno! Shock Mine was by H.E. Bates!
I'd say it sounds like hard going but you might pick me up on that

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 22:05

Oh Lordy. Please reassure me that that hasn't given you access to my account.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 22:07

Tecno, will check and delete immediately if so

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 22:08

No, quite safe, no one at all logged in!

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 22:12

And, yes, it is quite hard going. Descriptions of Victorian London and all its social mores very good. Detailed, anatomical descriptions of sex are just bleurgh.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 22:17

Can't you just skim those bits? I presume you are not going to be tested on them.

Funny lot, the Victorians. Fainting at the sight of a table leg, yet meanwhile in the pallid underbelly of society bleurgh matters reigned supreme

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 22:30

MrsLN if you are still around, I am a lightweight too, Classics are not my favourite kind of reading-- a noteable exception being North and South. SIS is quite lightweight, content wise, it's not Shakespeare! it's just heavy weight-wise Grin

MrsLucasNorth · 22/01/2011 22:38

Still here. Birdsong is fine, just have too much temptation with my boxed sets of Spooks! Have skimmed SiS and seems ok, as for Thomas Hardy - it's very wordy but I like the characters so will keep plugging away.

Am more inclined towards Sophie Kinsella, Marian Keyes, Jane Green etc.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 22:42

I do love a nice bit of chicklit, myself, MrsLN, The Shopaholic Books are about me. I screamed with laughter at her thought-patterns, when she's trying to justify a new purchase.

I used to read a whole lot more but if I'm not on here I am sitting in front of a book but my mind is off elsewhere...

PassTheTwiglets · 22/01/2011 22:52

Thomas Hardy - have never forgiven him for Tess Of The Sodding D'Urbervilles. And on that note, only remembered yesterday that Harry Pearce played the despicable Angel Clare!
I got an A grade at O level Eng. Lit., despite having never read all of the book and basing it on the film #shamefulbutproud

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 22:58

Ditto the Sodding Trumpet Major, Twiglets. Well done on you exam passing strategy. Harry R as Angel Clare, that must have been some time ago then?

I remember answering some French lit questions on a play i'd never read. but Moliere's plays were all the same anyway.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 23:00

I posted a pic of Harry as Angel Clare once. Bear with me ...

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 23:01

He's still a long way from The Grid

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 23:08

OMG, Techno, now I remember! Tempus don't 'arf fugit!!!

PassTheTwiglets · 22/01/2011 23:09

Yes, Theresa, was along time ago - I am very, very old :)

OP posts:
LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 23:10

Oh, don't they just, Theresa!

MrsLucasNorth · 22/01/2011 23:15

Blimey! How old is that pic?
The end of Tess is utterly hideous. I liked the Mayor of Casterbridge which I had on audiobook when I was about 11 and my dad was going through his Hardy phase - can't really remember much about it now though.

I used to read a whole lot more but if I'm not on here I am sitting in front of a book but my mind is off elsewhere...

...and where exactly would that be Theresa? Wink

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 23:16

Where are the snows of yesteryear, and all that..

MrsLucasNorth · 22/01/2011 23:17

What am I talking about? I'm thinking of Jude the Obscure, not Tess (last nights wine consumption still addling brain).Confused

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 23:18

My mind? It's off with the faeries, MrsLN Wink

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 23:20
MrsLucasNorth · 22/01/2011 23:22

I know the feeling Theresa.

Anyway, off to bed now. Has been a busy day.

Sweet dreams all!

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 23:24

Night night MrsLN! Sweet obsessions dreams.
