Just in case we need new premises tonight... :)

Hello Phoenix, how's tricks? Grin

Oooh ballet shoes, Techno, were they pink? I haven't forgotten lusting over some with broad satin ribbons when I was a wee slip of a girl. Never got any though.

I bought DVDs, a CD and a book the other day, and they were not from the bargain box either. Normal price here is dear, so it made a bit of a dent in the budget. Not so much as if I'd bought clothes, mind you.

Still holding off on Sparkhouse along the other river, till RH3 gets here.

I do love that sunlight through twiglets moemnt, it always makes me

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/01/2011 21:08

Techno! We also bought ballet shoes today and I have even sewn on the elastics!! I can't stand football...I rarely go shopping these days...the occasional mega-clothes buying spree - but otherwise if I can't buy it in a supermarket or online I don't buy it.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 21:09

Ooh, tell me more about what you bought. What dvds, cd, book?

Ballet shoes are pink satin. The ne plus ultra of girlyness.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 21:12

::Wonders if it was Phoenix in front of her in the queue at Ballet R Us::

It's a bugger about the elastic. For a while, the shoes were coming with the elastic pre-sewn but now it seems to be back to diy. Sewing through the shoe is tough.

::whinge whinge::

MrsLucasNorth · 22/01/2011 21:13

Code poem was one of the two I suggested to my friend for my reading at her wedding. They went with the other one which fitted their purpose more to be fair (tribute to their mums who both sadly are no longer with us).

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 21:15

Well, Four Weddings had gone back to full price and so had Moulin Rouge. then I got a Muse CD. Black Holes and Revelations . And Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice. That lot cost me the equivalent in Limpopo shillings of over £50 Shock

Point shoes yet? All I get to buy is very large basket ball boots...

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/01/2011 21:17

All ballet shoes are pink as far as I know - ours were pink satin today, but no ribbons I'm afraid...

I've got a couple of things to watch now, second half of BtS, and Frozen. Need to find a time...

Just watching Michael McIntyre collecting a British Comedy Award!! He's very non-threatening!! Apparently he's now a judge on Britain's Got Talent.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 21:20

I suppose they could dance to in them...

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 21:21

Oh no, we're nowhere near the pointe stage. I went a little while ago to buy some ballet paraphernalia in Freed's and there was a girl buying her first pointe shoes, en pointe in the middle of the shop. It's another world.

I have been pondering reading Interview with the Vampire ever since I saw the film. (It was the final scene, driving over the Golden Gate bridge to Sympathy with the Devil wot got to me). Let us know what you think of it.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 21:22

My ballet shoes were red, Phoenix. Sad So were my tap shoes but those were snazzy!

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/01/2011 21:24

O M G Santander advert just on - not seen it on the telly before...

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 21:26

The boys that we see have black shoes but it's true we've never been offered a choice of colour. I would love red tap shoes. I'm now kicking myself because I need party shoes and some of the ballroom shoes at Ballet R Us would have been ideal. I feel another trip looming.

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/01/2011 21:27

Wow - red ballet shoes - nice !! We're not doing tap at the moment, just ballet and modern, which is bare feet, so only one pair of shoes to buy.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 21:29

At the moment I'm reading a little thing called The Sunne in Splendour
Yes, I know but I am always up for a suggestion for a good read. And I've always liked historical novels.

But that Golden Gate Bridge scene sounds pretty cool. Can't wait to get to it now.

Lovely, en pointe in the shop. The Nike shop hasn't the same cachet

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 21:33

The tap shoes are mine, Phoenix, although sadly disused at the mo!

The GGB scene was beyond cool - sadly I can't find it on YT - but there's always the risk that it's not of Ms Rice's invention and isn't in the book. Is the Sunne In Splendour any good?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 21:34

Should have said that GGB scene features an open top sports car.

::cool::

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/01/2011 21:35

We are also nowhere near the pointe stage, thank goodness!!

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 21:37

But I wanted pink ballet shoes, Phoenix

Just picked up an article on The Hobbit from Twitter where Mr Armiage is referred to as ''an actor with a not-that-appalling appearance''
and '' a somewhat handsome gentleman, and certainly not "grim-faced" Grin

MrsLucasNorth · 22/01/2011 21:41

Also watching comedy awards - v. Considerate if them to pop Santander in there!

Is it me though, or are the awards themselves a bit naff - they look like a tin dvd box!

My DD doesn't do any dance lessons, which is just as well as she is v.tall like DH and clearly not built for ballet. She is more than happy freestyling round the kitchen to the top 40 just like mummy

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 21:42

I am enjoying SIS, Techno, the sort of book reviewers describe as ''a rich tapestry''
Lots of authentic detail and 879 pages in length. So it depends whether you like a long read or not. The only jarring note is the use of ''be'' instead of ''are'' in the dialogue, as in ''be you weary?'' as opposed to ''are you weary?''
Maybe it's down to fashion in conveying a historical flavour

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/01/2011 21:44

Oh must look at that article!!

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 21:47

Oh I like to bop around the kitchen too.

The Crimson Petal And The White is about 800 pages. I must plough on, but it's exhausting.

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 21:48

Talking of language, I was just having another look at The Arabian Nights and came across this description for an old man

'' flabby nose like an eggplant, face like a cobbler's apron, teeth overlapping and lips like camel's kidneys, loose and pendulous-''

I especially heart the phrase 'lips like a camel's kidneys'

Theresaholeinyourmind · 22/01/2011 21:50

Is Crimson Petal short stories, Techno? That was the only book of that title I could find when I googled

MrsLucasNorth · 22/01/2011 21:53

I'm a lightweight. Need to crack on with Birdsong but have only picked it up once since Christmas hols finished. Have begun dabbling with Far From the Madding Crowd and have SiS and Wuthering Heights lined up, plus Trespass the MN book club rec for January.

Then there's the remainder of LOTN and 3 more audio books. I need another looooong holiday.
