Oooh, does she? When Anne Rice's name came up on this thread a little while ago, I thought she wanted him to be another of her vampires. I have never read her books - the only vampire books I've read are Dracula and Twilight and I doubt that'll ever change - but he'd certainly make a good Lestat (and infinitely more plausible as a vampire than Mr Cruise).

Theresahollyinyourmind · 28/12/2010 23:23

He's very good at pale and interesting, isn't he?. Surely Tom Cruise was too orange and well-fed looking.
I think she was only dreaming aloud, I wasn't interested enough in her to be aware of any up-coming movie projects. her books always seemed so depressing and uncomfortable to me. Golly, have you read Twilight too ? Everyone must have done so but me!

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 28/12/2010 23:38

I always scoffed at Twilight as being teenage fodder, but then bought it for 10p at the school fete and read it on holiday. Offspring read the first few chapters when she ran out of reading material, but I confiscated it before she got to the rude bits. She asked yesterday when she could read the rest of it, to which the answer was "in 10 years' time".

Now if I could buy it for 10 Limopopo pence, I might read it myself. Are there rude bits?

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 29/12/2010 00:05

I would gladly have posted it to you (and given the Limpopian customs personnages a thrill) but we left it behind for the next happy holidaymaker. Famously, there aren't any rude bits but there is much discussion between Edward and Bella about why there can't be any rude stuff just in case Edward forgets his superhuman strength and rips her head off (or worse) instead of caressing it and I thought that that, and some of the ectoplasm-type stuff at the end, was probably too strong stuff for one so young. I believe, though, that in later books Edwards manages to overcome the slight obstacle of being clinically dead and impregnates Bella.

Of course, Offspring would probably like the film because, to her, Edward is Cedric Diggory from Harry Potter.

This, of course, is how head-caressing should be done.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 29/12/2010 00:22

Gonna have to aim a bit lower with the teeth though if he becomes a vampire. Still with very elegant hands of ocurse. Would it be permitted to wibble at such a fell creature?

My favourite vampire story is Salem's Lot or was, becuae I read it ages ago and have forgotten it. That happens a lot to me.

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 29/12/2010 00:31

Oh indeed. My illustration there was of face-caressing not for vampiric purposes. Stephen King? I read one of his on holiday as a teenager because it was in the house (do you spot a theme here?) but am otherwise too cowardly.

Right. BBC3's repeat of the Goodies' Saturday Night Grease is finishing and I must away to bed.

A domani. Don't let the vampires give you bad dreams.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 29/12/2010 00:34

Well I have now given myself nightmares for tonight, haven't I? Still, I must go. Wishing you sweeter dreams anyway!

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 29/12/2010 00:40

Well, it certainly gives a new perspective to the prospect of hot breath on one's neck!

Goodnight!

PassTheTwiglets · 29/12/2010 10:29

Morning all. Re. Lestat, I think Anne Rice wanted him as Lestat but I said I thought of him as Louis instead. But that's probably because I always liked Louis far more than Lestat.

Holly, you mentioned a little while back about the Limpopoland customs - did you literally mean customs or was that Academy-speak for arousing husbands' suspicion wrt our research topic?! If it is the former, then have you considered eBay? It's often easier to get away with customs charges from eBay than it is from Amazon.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 29/12/2010 11:06

Twiggy, thanks for the the thought about eBay but for some reason Paypal won't let me have an account.

The customs thing is real enough, there is a limit on value of goods per parcel. And of course, great big wodges of single-topic research material arriving at Chateau Holly might mean awkward questions were asked by Him Indoors.

I was thinking again last night about Anne Rice, and I am sure it wasn't actually a new statement of hers. Tell us about Lestat,I seem to remember he was tres creepy. He didn't visit my dreams last night, at least.

PassTheTwiglets · 29/12/2010 12:35

Oh that's a nuisance about Paypal.

Lestat is a bit creepy, yes. I was obsessed with the books but it was a very long time ago that I read them so my memory is sketchy. Lestat seems to take pleasure in tormenting people - he has no morals and doesn't seem to care about who he kills, whereas Louis is gentler and retains a lot of his human self. Louis refuses to kill people at first and he lives on animal blood. Louis is lovely.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 29/12/2010 12:39

Oh, dear. Lovelace with fangs, then?

PassTheTwiglets · 29/12/2010 12:42

Well now, that makes him seem more interesting :)

MrsLucasNorthPole · 29/12/2010 13:03

Hello ladies! How's it going?

I have now got so much reading/listening/viewing material I don't know where to start! Grin

Have been mentally working on Santa's New Toy - will try and post another chapter tonight.

How goes it with Tansy and Guy, Holly?

OP posts:
Theresahollyinyourmind · 29/12/2010 13:04

I pinched this from the Wiki:

As of November/December of 2010, Anne has come forward with her thoughts on the reboot of 'The Vampire Chronicles'. Recently, through her FaceBook profile, she said that the talk of a new movie based on her Vampire works is no more than just talk. Anne has stated that the rights to her novels are hers and that they are available for possible film use. She also stated that she and her agents would love to see another movie on Lestat and the rest of her Vampiric Characters. But Anne strongly believes that this is just rumors, but wouldn't mind to see a possible reboot .

Theresahollyinyourmind · 29/12/2010 13:07

Tansy is more or less done, MrsLNP. It kept snowballing, but I had a lot of fun with it.I was thinking of posting last night but everyone was busy. Maybe tonight, too?

Looking forward a lot to reading the new SNT.

MrsLucasNorthPole · 29/12/2010 13:12

Am not familiar with Anne Rice's vampire forays - not really into that kind of thing. I did have this on audiobook several years ago.

I bought it at the time because it was read by an American actor who I had a bit of a crush on (which is not like me at all, obviously).

Think it could be time for a new version...Grin

MrsLucasNorthPole · 29/12/2010 13:15

I will be posting either early or v.late evening as am off to a mate's house at 8pm. That's if I get on the PC as DD and I are staying at my parents tonight!

Theresahollyinyourmind · 29/12/2010 13:34

Well of course I had to be nosy and check out AR on FB, and her 'Lestat in the movie' comment was made 15 hours ago. So where did I hear it before???

You didn't say Lestat is blond, Twiggy. Now that would be different.

PassTheTwiglets · 29/12/2010 13:56

Yes, the blondness is probably the other reason I can't picture him as Lestat! (Louis is dark-haired). Re. 15 hours ago, I heard it a while back too, how odd...

MrsLNP, who was the actor? (if you don't mind sharing, that is).

Oh yes, Holly, please post Tansy's latest adventures!!!

MrsLucasNorthPole · 29/12/2010 15:02

Gil Bellows - he played Billy - Ally McBeal's first love!

OP posts:
PassTheTwiglets · 29/12/2010 15:08

Oh yes, I remember him! I preferred Richard Fish :)

PrairieOyster · 29/12/2010 16:32

I've seen Anne Rice's Facebook page with the reference to Rich but never having read her books, it means little. I've not even seen the Tom Cruise/Brad Pitt movie. I haven't read Twilight either, if I do decide to, I'll either borrow the books from the library or buy them in a charity shop. Incidentally I got a hard back copy of Bernard Cornwell's The Burning Land - one of the follow ups to The Lords of the North in a charity shop today - great value - I love buying bokoks in charity shops, you never know what you'll find and it makes me feel quite worthy afterwards.

PrairieOyster · 29/12/2010 16:34

Bokoks!!! books I mean!
