Welcome to our newest faculty building. Make yourselves comfortable and ignore the smell of paint. We cannot keep up with the demand for new premises.

What is confusing is that Amazon list the abridged version read by Jamie Glover when you do a search for RA iitems.

It's fantastic Teri - the best audiobook he has done IMHO and I've listened to them all now, except for the first 4 RH books. It's told in the first person which is nice, and he does a shed load of different voices. There are some thud-worthy bits plus some other amazing bits. My favourite is a bit starting "I am old now..."

PrairieOyster · 17/12/2010 21:30

I don't know why it's not on Amazon - it must be something to do with distribution rights.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 17/12/2010 21:41

There is even a US version of the unabridged book, read by Tom Selleck. Or maybe another Tom, people seems to disagree.
RAs gets a fantastic review on Amazon US here

So it sounds like I'm in for a treat, Oyster. He has a such a range of colours in his voice, does he not?

Can I just say ladies that my local library service is the dogs proverbials!

Have just ordered online the full, unabridged LOTN, read by our fave man for delivery to my local library without so much as a reservation fee!

Theresahollyinyourmind · 17/12/2010 21:55

That is amazing, MrsLNP. Didn't you get Venetia from them too? Perhaps the head librarian is a fan.

OP posts:
MrsLucasNorthPole · 17/12/2010 22:10

I think there must be an RA fan in charge of purchasing - they have several dvds of Robin Hood, Venetia, LOTN, Spooks series 8, cold feet, Marie Lloyd...

asmallbunchofmistletoe · 17/12/2010 22:13

Evening all.

We are very fond of QI in this house. If we're looking for links to Alun Armstrong, don't forget that his son Joe played the Guy-ogling Alan in RH. It's a very interesting question, I think, why on the one hand there is 80% (I think) unemployment amongst actors and, on the other, a charmed/gifted/exceptional few who (it sometimes seems) are in everything.

Snowy - I never knew that about requirements for architecture school. I also have a bizarre diverse mix of A levels. Perhaps I could apply as a, ahem, very mature student. I've often fancied being Frank Lloyd Wright an architect.

Now that Beowulf has been mentioned, I am developing a cunning plan to buy LOTN for The Poet who likes both Beowulf and Bernard Cornwell. It could be one of those presents that you actually buy for yourself.

Is there any Chateau Gizzy left?

Theresahollyinyourmind · 17/12/2010 22:18

I had an awful lot of bother getting my copy of LOTN. Maybe Oyster has a better method, but I had to order a used copy from the US.
Strangely, they still have another for sale, same caveat about the lack of original box. I can't work that one out.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 17/12/2010 22:23

Thank you. Cheers!

Hmm. I had forgotten the byzantine route by which you had to buy your LOTN. Maybe I'll buy him some socks instead.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 17/12/2010 22:28

Silly really, I am sure they'd sell loads if they made them more easily available.
And so much more interesting than socks.

What a shame someone else read N&S for Naxos. That would have been a treat.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 17/12/2010 22:39

Is this ? Alas, I think it is.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 17/12/2010 22:47

I swoon anew every time I listen! I wonder what his fee would be? We could hold a whip-round, and it could go on sale with the rest of the Academy merchandise.

Meanwhile I found unusual item while following links, earlier on. It's not a John this time, it's Percy.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 17/12/2010 23:05

The reading is indeed swoontastic. As for Percy's tango. Phew. And we get a bit of Rudolph Valentino.

There was a link there to this . This one, though, .

Theresahollyinyourmind · 17/12/2010 23:18

Famous tangoes indeed. I noted there were no banana legs or stuck-out botties in either.
A shame Percy didn't have a go himself, that would have been fun to watch.

I view Kat Moon in a diffent light, these days. Alfie must be a bit of a come-down after Percy

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 17/12/2010 23:39

Ha ha! 'Tis very funny that Miss Marie Lloyd is now on EastEnders (in fact I think she was at the time). And Antonio's partner is Katia, who is one of the professionals on Strictly (with Gavin this year, although this will be meaningless if you don't get the current series). As you say, a refreshing absence of jutting botties and banana legs.

How cold is it on the banks of the Limpopo tonight? If it weren't for the heat radiating from the tango, I would have hypothermia by now.

Theresahollyinyourmind · 17/12/2010 23:46

It is quite parky here. But no snow so far. My laptop is keeping me warm, along with thoughts of Percy doing the tango.

Why do the male professonal dancers dance the way they do nowadays? It looks most inelegant. One hopes...but I must say no more.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 17/12/2010 23:54

Eh? But pray don't explain.

Still feeling cold? Let's light the fire and roast .

Theresahollyinyourmind · 18/12/2010 00:08

Those torches they use up at t'castle must give off a fair amount of heat Not as much as a certain hottie in black leather, mind you. It feels very warm in here all of a sudden.I even think I need to

Do you get the ice-skating show too, in the UK, the one in the same vein as Strictly? I have read about a US version, so wondered if if that was any good.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 18/12/2010 00:13

Dancing on Ice? Yes, we have it here but we never watch it. I suspect it's OK but the whole point of Strictly for me is that it's about dancing (OK and lithe gentlemen demonstrating feline grace and hip action) so ice-skating doesn't fire my enthusiasm.

.

Could I borrow the fan?

Theresahollyinyourmind · 18/12/2010 00:17

Have the fan with pleasure. Because you'll never guess what has happened to that vid of yours. Sigh.

something I lifted from Twitter tonight. I hope you are able to see that!
OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 18/12/2010 00:27

Oh drat about the vid.

That is utterly, completely, entirely .... brooding .... smouldering .... The Voice .... .

Theresahollyinyourmind · 18/12/2010 00:33

I see you too have found that site of manifold delights. Some are just too gorgeous for flesh an blood to bear.

I have to go and get some sleep, now, my eyes keep closing without my permission.

So it's goodnight from me and goodnight from Guy --I won't do a link becuase you know what he looks like by now.

OP posts:
asmallbunchofmistletoe · 18/12/2010 00:40

Site of manifold delights? Eh? I regularly ransack the archive on one of the fan sites for pictures but that last one I found by Googling. Is there some luscious but sane site I should know about?

It's too cold here - my fingers are frozen to the keyboard. So it's a goodnight from me and a goodnight from smouldering Mr Thornton (the hottest thing in the room).

Theresahollyinyourmind · 18/12/2010 00:47

Here

Mainly photos, as far as I can see
