... how long could you survive with what you have in your house right now?

Do you have any tins/bottled water etc put away in case of a emergency?

Have been frealing myself out reading some wacky conspiray sites (all baging on about something huge happeneing in the next 2 weeks) - Im not be;lieveing it, but it has made me think that one day there could be an event and I probably would only last a week with my store cupboard!

We'd be drinking dh's brandy stash here if the worst comes to the worst Confused it better not though I'm trying to move house shortly!

CherryRocketMonster · 03/11/2010 22:46

vintage- with 4 kids i need to be organised. i have a pretty good first aid kit which i put together when i went on holiday in may. simply because, with my kids, if an accident is possible, it will happen. i am in the process of preparing for a very cold winter so have got some stuff stashed already.

babylann · 03/11/2010 22:47

Oh no. Me and DP have gone on a "fresh food" kick and emptied out all our cupboards in favour of having stuff to make meals from scratch. If there's nothing there to shove in the oven, there's no excuse not to cook something yummy and homemade.

I guess you've pointed out the potentially fatal flaw in this plan!

springlamb · 03/11/2010 22:54

Nuffink better not fking happen.
Got me a holiday in Mexico booked next month and I'm going hell or high water, ain't staying here to share a tin of spam with 17 moaning f
king relatives.

BeenBeta · 03/11/2010 23:01

vintageteacups - I spent the day watching the Federal Reserve promising to print $600 bn and I think the Dollar Collapse and very possibly civil unrest on a grand scale may well occur quite soon.

Madness.

vintageteacups · 03/11/2010 23:04

beenbeta - really?

NoahAndTheWhale · 03/11/2010 23:08

How long is the ice cream in Asda offer going on for?

BeenBeta · 03/11/2010 23:12

Yes really. Its all over the financial news.

It will not stimulate US economic growt or jobs but just devalue the dollar and create commodity inflation.

People are not seeing their wages go up though, even though the price of essentials like food and oil are. That makes people worse off, their standard of livng falls and at some point people revolt.

The tea party movement in the US is an early sign of it along with middle class people walking away from their mortgages and refusing to pay in their millions. Society is litle by little breaking down in the USA and may people are armed. Some states have started putting armed security giards at unemployment offices as the 99 week limit for social security runs out people will get more and more desperate.

I read Walmart are selling a special food package for under $1000 with just enough calories and nutrients to feed an adult for a year. It is selling well apparently.

mychatnickname · 03/11/2010 23:13

Oh that isn't even half of what's on that website. They have all sorts of theories about WW3 and why Obama is disappearing from the US.
I am so going to have a nightmare tonight after this.

SiriusStar · 03/11/2010 23:19

This kind of stuff really freaks me out. I don't watch horror films but I really don't need to as reading this will keep me awake tonight. Unfortunately it is compelling reading and so I know I will have to restrain myself from shopping tomorrow. I know I should not go back and read the links but I know that is exacly what I am about to do.
AAhhh. The Fear. The Fear is gonna get me!

CoinOperatedGirl · 04/11/2010 00:11

I dunno, I think that everything will basically go on as usual. But really the world never just goes on as usual does it. Something always changes, it would be unusual if the world did just lalala on as usual really. Something is bound to happen sooner or later. I really should be prepared, I make it my resolution for the next 2 weeks to be prepared.

SarahStrattonsSparkler · 04/11/2010 00:13

I might actually be getting a little bit scared now so I'm going to bed Confused

EightiesChick · 04/11/2010 00:31

Can you really be prepared? Plus for all that things keep changing, not in the sense of a global apocalypse they don't. In fact we've been doing pretty well since the last Ice Age and the extinction of the dinosaurs.

I too can feel almost convinced when I read this stuff. The trick is to put it away, shake your head and then go and cuddle your kids/other half/pet/teddy bear / a good book. It will do you as much good as any preparation.

And please, don't have nightmares . Night all.

PurpleOne · 04/11/2010 01:52

feck all....my stuff is in storage and we live in a b n b.

oh but we hav torch and candles.

food would be a huge problem, as water and batteries etc
not even got a poo/vomit bucket

MaDuggar · 04/11/2010 07:52

We're DOOOooomed! We're DOOOOOooooomed!

Just wanted to say that. I feel better now.

As you were. Smile

SarahStrattonsSparkler · 04/11/2010 09:24

I don't. I am twitching and sizing horse up for joints Confused

Hassled · 04/11/2010 09:32

I'm off to Sainsburys soon - will get extra pasta. As long as we have pasta all will be fine.

That original website is just bizarre - who are these nutters? Someone back in August had a funny feeling about November, and someone actually remembered that and quoted them - do you think these people have proper jobs and a life?

BeenBeta · 04/11/2010 09:34

Horse meat is good in a stew. Really nice rich gravy.

Hassled · 04/11/2010 09:34

Ooo yes, horse is a good idea. And guinea pigs taste like chicken, I've heard. And then if you could manage a guinea pig, a hamster would be no problem - although portion sizes might be an issue.

SarahStrattonsSparkler · 04/11/2010 09:34

They can't can they? Hmm I mean who would employ someone so utterly paranoid? They would be constantly checking the stationery cupboard for pipe bombs and refusing to open the post.

SiriusStar · 04/11/2010 09:35

I did read the links and am resisting preparing to be prepared.
The urge is strong though.
Need to get a grip.

Anyone watched Conspiracy Theory with Julia Roberts and Mel Gibson?
Last night I was dramatising in my head, hitmen killing me for reading one of the links. The whole secret services checking for key words freaked me out a bit.

I definitely think that more goes on that we don't know about.
