... how long could you survive with what you have in your house right now?

Do you have any tins/bottled water etc put away in case of a emergency?

Have been frealing myself out reading some wacky conspiray sites (all baging on about something huge happeneing in the next 2 weeks) - Im not be;lieveing it, but it has made me think that one day there could be an event and I probably would only last a week with my store cupboard!

Oh and there could also be a polar switch, we are long overdue one and all the volvanic/earthquake activity recently could suggest such a thing is gearing up ....

There are always Zombies Grin

Who are

The Web bot project
Timewave zero
Baby vanga

and why are their predictions more influential than whether my piles ache or not?

SarahStrattonsSparkler · 04/11/2010 19:30

Ohhh yes a polar switch could be interesting. What are the symptoms?

MaDuggar · 04/11/2010 19:32

web bot

baba vanga

As for timewave zero, Im not exactly sure!

MaDuggar · 04/11/2010 19:36

Not long. My boiler has packed in this week too so we would be without hot water or central heating. Have plenty of coal and wood though to keep a fire going. And a kettle.

I am stinking btw. I actually dreamt of having a shower last night.

whomovedmychocolate · 04/11/2010 19:47

Ah bollocks I have Centerparcs booked in December. Fucking armageddon Hmm Grin

Oh well at least we won't have to face the snorefest that is it the Olympics. Grin

SarahStrattonsSparkler · 04/11/2010 20:01

Polar reversal sounds a bit of a non-event tbh. I may go back to aliens or a pandemic.

complexnumber · 04/11/2010 20:06

Given a huge natural disaster, how long do you have to wait until it is ok to loot the shops?

MaDuggar · 04/11/2010 20:08

Me & DH were just discussing that! We want to be one of the first but not to early.....

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 04/11/2010 20:09

It's traditional to wait till first light the day after armageddon. Which gives a chance for the UPSs on the store alarms to run out of batteries if the leccy is off. But still ensures the frozen food is still frozen. HTH

SarahStrattonsSparkler · 04/11/2010 20:10

Looting our local shops would be absolutely pointless. Unless I plan on setting up an Antiques Tatt shop. Although it would make good firewood I guess. The many cookshops would be possibly a bit more useful. Only possibly though. There are only so many uses for a pie funnel shaped like a chicken and a silicon spatula.

MrsChemist · 04/11/2010 20:11

I'd be tempted to get my lootin' stick and go a-looting as soon as the news broke TBH. Miss the rush.

mychatnickname · 04/11/2010 20:14

But presumably scientists can't predict a polar reversal or Yellowstone blowing?
So it has to be something man-made not a natural disaster?

NomDePlume · 04/11/2010 20:18

DH would think I was barking if a compiled an 'oh fuck ruck sack'.

Am genuinely Confused that [otherwise sane & normal] people stockpile stuff and are that paranoid.

If the shit hits the fan that bad, then we're all dead anyway. A few tins of corned beef and bottles of Buxton are saving no one.

SarahStrattonsSparkler · 04/11/2010 20:19

Wiki says the magnetic field is becoming weaker and drifting here

Yellowstone has been studied for years, there has been die-off of trees due to acid something and a bulge has been there a while

I like stuff like this, I don't actually believe it though.

MrsChemist · 04/11/2010 20:20

Well, volcanic activity can be predicted, sort of.

Preceding an eruption there will be earthquakes etc. so they can make an educated guess. Doesn't happen for all volcanoes obviously, but it's not like an earthquake where the maximum warning you'll get it maybe a minute.

You being serious dwayne? 'Plan b'?

We have several tins of soup and rice pudding in our larder and I think I have a first aid kit somewhere.

Oh well...

TandB · 04/11/2010 20:27

Bugger Radio 4. The litmus test as to whether Britain continued to function would be whether there was still activity on AIBU on Mumsnet.

abr1de · 04/11/2010 20:28

I sense that some here are not taking the zombie threat seriously.

thanksamillion · 04/11/2010 20:29

Ooh I'm quite excited. I live in possibly the most prepared place ever! Everyone (apart from me) is pretty much self-sufficient with cellars stocked with preserved fruits etc. We drink well water anyway and heating is a log fire. I'm one of the few with a car so I reckon I can use that to bargin for food etc and keep going for a good long time Grin

SarahStrattonsSparkler · 04/11/2010 20:30

Thingumy I am about as prepared as you are. Except I don't have the soup or rice pudding... oh bollocks.
